I can't speak for the veracity of this picture, but it seems likely that you could buy a small pumpkin, cut out the bottom, carve it, suspend it on the end of a string by its stem, and a squirrel would come by and stick its head in there to chew on it, thus presenting you with a similar photo op.

Who cuts a hole in the bottom of the pumpkin? Obviously set up intentionally for something like this to happen, what with the hanging by a string thing and all.

Man, those Brits are giddy about squirrels. But thanks for getting BBC news to the USA.

We used to do that with coconuts. Bore an 1.5" hole in the bottom through the shell and hang it from a tree branch by an eye-screw in the top so it sits about six inches from the ground. It was funny when they'd stick their heads up inside there and grab a piece of coconut meat and sit down to eat it. Sometimes the coconut on the string would start swinging and come back and knock the squirrel down.

Then, the damned fuzz-tailed rats broke the peace treaty and started tearing stuff up in the shed. Now I feed them lead instead of coconut.

So she says. The birds didn't like it, probably because it was hollowed out from the bottom.

Likewise, you could probably take a warm apple pie, cut a hole in the middle and mount it next to a urninal in a boy's high school bathroom, thus presenting...
