Current status:

Funds Raised:
$15,760
Time Remaining: 33 Days

Update notes: We've had a bit of a slow time the last few days, largely intentional. I'd like to put this back into the public eye now that payday is here or will be shortly for a lot of folks who may have wanted to donate but forgot.

IndieGoGo has been in touch with me and we're working out the best ways to get the funds directly to the SVDP chapter so I don't have to take the funds myself and incur any taxes, so that's a huge win.

Please share the word and spread the link around your social media circles.

Thanks to all who have supported this campaign so far- it is appreciated!

The opposite, it appears.

'Ryan supporters have now targeted Antal and his soup kitchen, Antal said, including making hundreds of angry phone calls. Some members of Antal's volunteer staff have had to endure the barrage as well, he said. "The sad part is a lot of [the callers] want to hide behind anonymity," he said, adding that if someone leaves their name and number he has tried to return their call. In addition to phone calls, people have posted a few choice words on the charity's Facebook wall, including statements like "I hope you lose your tax [sic] emempt status," Anyone who is thinking about donations to you should think twice" and "Shame on you Brian Antal!"'

Maybe Drew should consider whether it makes good business sense to offer two membership options: five dollars per month for membership only or ten dollars a month for membership and five dollars donated to soup kitchen or food bank with different designated soup kitchen or food bank in a different city designated to receive the proceeds each month. I wonder if that would actually increase membership. Maybe he should try it on a trial basis and see how it works out.

Aren't these people a peach? Same thing happened to a Mexican restaurant in Denver. Romney wanted to make a campaign stop there and they said they'd rather not be a campaign prop. Received all sorts of nasty letters and phone calls. They played one on the TV where the guy was going off about how he hopes their Mexican fu**ing asses get deported back to fu**ing Mexico, etc. etc. Funny thing is, the people who own the restaurant were born here and speak better English than a lot of people you would meet on the street. Oh, and they're Morman.

Except that when you read even further into the background, one of the volunteers bashed Ryan and called him a phony. Even if it's true, not exactly the smartest thing to say when you are completely dependant on donations and the political climate is what it is.

Good jorb! We have a soup kitchen up the street a few blocks and there are times when they've kept me from starving. There's no proselytizing or sermons, you just get in line a get a tray. I really appreciate that. But you can tell things are getting bad because they seldom serve any kind of meat anymore, it's mostly canned veggies and pasta and beef broth poured over two pieces of white bread. Or shiat on a shingle as they used to call it.

People who think charities and volunteer organizations are all we need to feed the hungry, and who whine about so many on food stamps, are just full of shiat. I wouldn't mind sitting through an hour-long sermon for a meal but they aren't even offering that anymore. There used to be half a dozen churches here that would serve a meal or give you a sack lunch to take to work. But they've all stopped doing that.

I'm sure they're all still getting that tax payer money from Bush's faith based initiative thing. But they're not feeding hungry people. They probably hiring church ladies to canvas for GOP votes.

The people making those calls and posting that on Facebook don't sound like they were the donating type in the first place.

How is this "losing donations"? Richard Nixon was once asked if he would help out a congressional candidate and said he'd campaign either for him or against him, whichever would help him get more votes.

Sweetpea, I imagine conservatives donated also. Who doesn't donate to soup kitchens and food banks? Unless they need the services themselves, everyone donates to that sort of thing.

Wait, I thought taxes weren't an issue with these things, since it all qualifies as a series of small "gifts" (each well under the gift tax limit, which is incurred by the giver anyway), not as "income"?
