Ahhhh the never ending biatching of west coast people biatching about how they are ignored, the only problem is there is not anyone to replace those that were named.

There is no east coast bias, only west coast whining.

since the east coast does not have teh internets, they can defend themselves here!

That said, I do wish someone would tell ESPN that there are other teams that play baseball, besides the Yankees and Red Sox.

Your omission of college sports is obvious.

There is a bona fide east coast bias. Period.

AhISeeWhatYouDidThere: Barney over Brandon Phillips? Da fark?

Yeah, tying the major league record for errorless games at 2B does tend to put your name in the papers.

/Phillips was great at 2B.
//Barney was nearly flawless.

Outstanding defense was a big part of San Francisco's playoff run. Not only did no Giants win Gold Gloves, none even made the top four at their positions. Your hypothesis needs revision.

I don't really care about collegiate sports...

Ya, but Adam Jones had more home runs, so he deserves it more.

AND his team made the playoffs!

You're a terrible person sometimes.

Only sometimes? I need to try harder.

Any other glaring omissions here?

I dont really know how players compare defensively other than the guys that are slow, fat and/or old obviously just playing for their bat?

CarGo is a terrible choice; he was probably the worst full time defensive LF in the game this season. Similarly, McCutchen is towards the bottom of the list.

Otherwise, though, I think the rest of the winners were at least close to the best. I'd disagree with Headley, Hardy & JRoll (and Jones, of course), but they're at least defensible.

Hey, you take that back!

Baseball-Reference has Jimmy Rollins improving all the way from 2011's -0.0 to 2012's +0.0!!!

Carlos gonzalez is not in left field for his defense.

Gold Gloves are strictly reserved to reward talented offensive players for their overall body of work. Look it up, fools.

markyp09: AhISeeWhatYouDidThere: Barney over Brandon Phillips? Da fark?

Phillips had a defensive wins-above-replacement score (dWAR) of 1.6. That's tied for the highest of his career. Compare that to Barney, who had a dWAR of 3.6.

Well....there are some reasons to believe that Barney's dWAR is a little inflated. But, yes, Barney was almost certainly better than BP this year.

He had a .997 fielding percentage on a team that desperately needed the defense. He earned that in my book, and I'm a south sider.

Yep, the east coast has the majority of the population and more sports teams. Of course it gets more sports coverage.

The whole east coast bias is nonsense though. We hear about the Lakers or Dodgers or Niners (or Bears or Bulls) as much as we hear about any east coast teams. It isnt' about the seaboard, its about the history and how often they win combined with how big their markets are.

When people on the West Coast start showing up to ball games earlier than the third inning, maybe the rest of the sports world will take them seriously.

New York gave you baseball, it gave you the Giants, and it gave you the Dodgers. Your contributions to the sport include, but are not limited to: the Mariners, the Padres, the A's, the Los Angeles California Angels of Anaheim in the OC, balloon sticks, turning your hats inside out, holding stuffed animal "rally monkeys," waving towels... actually I take that back. Contributions are limited to those listed.

dWAR. Oddly enough, Rollins' past two seasons have been damn near identical sabermetrically.

Ah, gotcha. I still hate dWAR so I skipped right over that and down to DRS/TZR, both of which are not 0.

Makes sense. I think it's an alright thing to glance at, if not obsess over. Does have issues, certainly. The jump from -0.0 to +0.0 is pretty wonderful.

Perfect example of the ESPN east coast bias. On the day that Michigan lost to Appalachian State (arguably the biggest upset in college football history) Sportscenter's lead story was a no hitter by a Red Sox pitcher.

When has a no-hitter(regardless of team) ever not been the lead story on Sportscenter? It was a huge upset but biggest upsets in any sports history do not happen during the first week of the season.

I actually watched Sportscenter the next morning because I missed the Michigan/Appalachian game and more than half of the show was directly/indirectly related to that game. That's almost all they talked about.

There were three no hitters in 2007. How many top five div-1 teams lose to div1-AA teams?
