That said, did anyone expect reality television personalities - the most self-centered group of people on Earth - to show empathy toward other people?

Hopefully not, but it should be both inspirational and comforting that the truest to America's way of life can keep chugging along despite the disaster at hand, even when it hits so close to their home wallet.

Maybe they gave a whole bunch of money, but they didn't feel the need to tell the rest of the world because their gesture was genuinely altruistic, and they thought that announcing it would cheapen the act.
