That doesn't even make sense. Much like Romney's tax plan, foreign policy, or campaign in general.

You do realize any carrier dispatched to Bengazi would have taken a week to get there, right? Guess what- Bengazi is not the political hot potato your team of retards are making it out to be.

Yeah, Subby. Sending in some destroyers would've immediately resulted the people responsible being brought to justice, I'm sure of it. It was a foolproof plan.

Assuming the people responsible were pirates, that is.

I've heard this Jersey vs. Benghazi response shiat all day on my coworkers radio. Let me spell it out for you morans: getting supplies from one non-disastered state to another within the continental US is COMPLETELY farkING DIFFERENT than enacting a military response in a foreign country just recovering from a civil war.

Especially if you have other concerns such as pissing off said country and getting kicked out completely, worries that you might end up losing 10 of the men you send in to save 4, or the realization that using a AC-130 gunship in a urban enviroment will just end up creating more terrorists than it kills.

The U.S. Navy is sending three helicopter carrier ships to the coast off New York and New Jersey to help rescue and recovery operations in the wake of superstorm Sandy, officials told NBC News.

While they do carry helicopters seeing amphibs referred to as helicopter carriers just seems wrong. Especially considering the Wasp (LHD-1) can carry Harriers, Ospreys, and the JSF (F-35B).

It bothers me that the time someone dies is more important that that they are dead.

According to Obama's 2009 Apology Tour, it sure is the fault of the U.S.

And if you don't think Obama was out apologising then, you're a FarkLibtard.

It is so sad that Ronald Reagan destroyed mental health facilities in this country. It would be far better if this person was in a fully staffed mental health facility receiving the care they need instead of at the library posting his delusional insane fantasies on Fark.

I keep seeing references to the Obama Apology Tour. Does anyone have any references to it? Did Obama go around apologizing for America? (it's talked about like everyone should know what it was so I'm embarrassed to ask for references but it's the best way to learn (I guess))

I've googled it and watched some videos but most of them reference the Tour like everyone already knows about it. There is a Hannity clip that shows him talking about mistakes Bush made. Is that what it's all about?

Obama traveled to various foreign countries but didn't scream "AMERICA, F*CK YEAH!!" in the face of every foreign dignitary, leader, or citizen he encountered. Instead, he acted like an adult and spoke frankly and honestly about many different issues. Obama was therefore "apologizing" for America.

I can go a little further than that. It was a tragedy that may have been preventable, and we should have a commission that takes a comprehensive look at what went wrong and how we should improve embassy and diplomat security in the future.

What we shouldn't have are chuckleheads like Issa putting national security in jeopardy to score political points, or assholes like Romney going on TV to smirk like a little dickhead while he shows the world how proud he is of his insensitivity and ignorance.

Comments like this remind me of one simple tool: If you disagree with a comment someone makes, replace in your mind the speaker with the opposition and then ask yourself if you still disagree. Always a good rule of thumb to politics.

According to anonymous sources Fox News has been in contact with, when the embassy was attacked the former Navy SEALs present at the CIA site a mile up the road wanted to go rescue them but were told to stand down. They disobeyed that order, but were unable to find Ambassador Stevens. When they returned to the CIA compound the second attack happened, at which point Fox's anonymous sources say that these former SEALs had an open line to the Pentagon begging for backup but were denied any support.

That's all they have to support this angle: a single Fox News article that relies entirely on anonymous sources.

He's definitely feeling the strain. I mean yeah, you could make the case that he's just doing it all for the money and that its all a big game to him blah blah. But...I think the backlash from the Sandra Fluke incident hurt him more than he's willing to admit. that opened the door to his rivals and enemies in his own industry to start exploiting his weaknesses....blood in the water, he's feeling pressure from all sides, can't admit to any of it....yeah. even the toughest nut might crack under that sort of pressure.

lemurs: The general public still doesn't care about Benghazi, or foreign policy at all for that matter.

But they are going to take an interest in how the administration responds to a natural disaster at home.

that's what's got the right wing in a tizzy today. Obama didn't flub the disaster response and even Christie praised his handling of the hurricane response. add in coverage of Romney saying he'd shut down FEMA, then refusing to answer questions regarding his earlier statements on disaster response and it's no wonder that Fox news and GOP pundits everywhere are having episodes of brain meltage today.

On Thursday Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said there was not enough clear information coming from Benghazi "and as a result of not having that kind of information, the commander who was on the ground - or in that area, General Ham, General Dempsey and I felt very strongly that we could not put forces at risk in that situation." He added, "this happened within a few hours and it was really over before, you know, we had the opportunity to really know what was happening."

Sorry GOP, not Obama's call.

September 17, 2008, U.S. embassy in Sana'a, Yemen
Militants dressed as policemen attacked the embassy with RPGs, rifles, grenades and car bombs. Six Yemeni soldiers and seven civilians were killed. Sixteen more were injured.

But none of these count only when the president is a Democrat does it matter!!

Stop playing politics about US deaths!!!

You forgot: 4,977 US casualties in Iraq from 2003-2011. Kinda makes the 4 in Benghazi not nearly as bad in the scheme of things. None of them should have died, but to use any to gain political points is the ultimate low. So eat a bowl of dicks, conservitards.

According to Obama's 2009 Apology Tour, it sure is the fault of the U.S.

And if you don't think Obama was out apologising then, you're a FarkLibtard.

Obama didn't just say "fark you, world! We kick ass and take names and you all can kiss our ass! America, fark YEA!" everywhere he went, so therefore he was 'apologizing'.

Can you explain to me how the SEALs called Obama? Is there like a batphone or something?

According to anonymous sources Fox News has been in contact with, when the embassy was attacked the former Navy SEALs present at the CIA site a mile up the road wanted to go rescue them but were told to stand down. They disobeyed that order, but were unable to find Ambassador Stevens. When they returned to the CIA compound the second attack happened, at which point Fox's anonymous sources say that these former SEALs had an open line to the Pentagon begging for backup but were denied any support.

That's all they have to support this angle: a single Fox News article that relies entirely on anonymous sources.

so basically, they made it up then?

No, "the left" SOLVED THE PROBLEM in 6 weeks by arresting nearly every single person associated with the group responsible for the attack.

But that's ok, the right probably wouldn't recognize an effective response to a terror attack if they saw it. After all, what "the left" can--and did-- do in 6 weeks with a handful of CIA personnel, the right has shown it cannot do, even with 10 years of ground war and the patriot act.

GameSprocket: Overfiend: GameSprocket: Overfiend: Sounds like we had help within range: "The fighting at the CIA annex went on for more than four hours -- enough time for any planes based in Sigonella Air base, just 480 miles away, to arrive."

To do what?

btw:

Shooting at the annex went on for a quarter of an hour before it stopped as abruptly as it had started. There were no further attacks on the annex

Sounds like there are different reports. The article I quoted (see above) said "The fighting at the CIA annex went on for more than four hours".

I know Wikipedia is the most accurate source for news on the internet, but they are sometimes (GASP!!) wrong...

Are you seriously dissing a Wikipedia article after posting a Fox news article as a source? That's ballsy!

Wikipedia isn't always accurate, but it isn't inherently political and it provides citations to back up its claims. If you can come up with a better neutral source, feel free to post it.

How about the Daily Mail (I know its a conservative leaning newspaper)?

Link

Investors Business Daily?

Link

I know Fox News is mentioned numerous times throughout the internet in relation to this story. But if they are the ones who either broke the story or are the only ones reporting on it, its hard to discuss this story without their name coming up.

I do not know what went on in Benghazi that night, but I do know that one thing the Obama administration screwed up was the "PR/disseminating information" portion of the response.

How 'bout October 23, 1983 in Beirut, Lebanon?

There's a reason Fox News is mentioned in nearly every Benghazi article.

It's because in severalinstances, they are essentially reporting rumor and conjecture as fact without proper confirmation, when nearly every other mainstream media source is prevented from doing so by it's own editorial policy.

Can you provide us with citations for when the folks in Benghazi asked the Department of State (which is what I'm guessing you mean by "SD") and the White House for assistance and were directly denied?

/That's a trick question, by the way. They didn't ask either of those entities, nor were they denied by either of those entities.

I'll just let that speak for itself.

The amazing thing is that the "argument" is that they just want the truth to come out on Benghazi, yet everything the Administration says is immediately branded a lie, and anything made up from whole cloth anonymously is considered the truth.

By Jan 22nd, when the impeachment proceedings begin, I fully expect the right-wing narrative about Benghazi to be that Obama and Michelle sodomized each other in the oval office while four foreign service officials died and when the troops asked to go help, Obama emailed them a picture of the Marine sigil covered in his own piss.

Unless, y'know.... Obama isn't Kenyan because he's Libyan.

I think you are all on to something. I learned from Back to the Future that the Libyans have uranium and Doc Brown used it in his time machine. We all know that Obama has a time machine and regularly goes back in time to do bad things thanks to the GOP telling us about the events he ordered as president as far back as the 1970s. Therefore we can only conclude, Obama killed Doc Brown and stole the plans for the Flux Capacitor. Where is your Delorean Obama?!?!? We know the truth now!

Obama called it an act of terror the very next day. Libyan military and police hunted down and arrested nearly all those responsible in a month and a half. The mistake was constantly relaying all incoming information to the media instead of waiting until everything was sorted and studied and determined.

And yet the right viciously continues to act like this was some kind of enormous conspiracy created by Obama to do... something or other. Every day someone says something new about how Obama did this, Obama didn't do that, Obama left people to die, Obama doesn't care, etc etc. Now we've got someone saying that Obama denied SEALs from running down the road to help, and the source is an anonymous one that FOX acts like it came from God himself. And when presented with the facts and the reality, these same people scream denials and are 100% convinced that this was some nefarious scheme to do... something or other. And no, they've never even tried to explain the why and how it would make any sense.

Add this to their determination to turn America into a misogynist, homophobic, ignorant, rich man's paradise, Christian theocracy that declares wars at Israel's beck and call, their absolute hatred of everyone having health care, and their constant victim syndrome, and it's like a perfect storm of complete and utter insanity on the right.

2012-10-31 10:53:31 PM
It can't be said enough that in the aftermath of the attack, Libyan citizens marched in support of the USA and Libyan authorities tracked down over 50 of the terrorists. That by itself is a major foreign policy victory for the Middle East.
Air strikes, gunships, drone attacks, or additional boots on the ground, would only have endangered more Americans and led to innocent Libyan casualties, souring our diplomatic relations with the Libyan people, and granting the terrorists a major PR victory.

But some of these yokels seem to think that we had an entire carrier air group ready to extract a single ambassador, no Libyan death toll was too high to save even one American, and we probably should have nuked the city afterwards just to be sure. Then Obama should resign for ruining the soil of his home continent, Sarah Palin is president, and Joe Biden's Trans Am gets replaced with a 1990 Subaru Legacy Turbo with no tape deck and two hubcaps missing.

TheDumbBlonde said Obama was also responsible for the BP disaster, so now they're merging everything they can into a Megazord of derp. It's absolutely frightening what these people are doing and saying. They don't give a flying shiat about America anymore, they'd rather see it completely destroyed before they see a Democrat as president again.

And they'll still destroy America if they get in, partly for spite and partly because they're farking nuts.

[T]he Obama Administration did not convene its top interagency counterterrorism resource: the Counterterrorism Security Group, (CSG) ... Another senior counter terrorism official says a hostage rescue team was alternately asked to get ready and then stand down throughout the night, as officials seemed unable to make up their minds.

Hannity's big thing in his shows right now is "Benghazigate". Now it's gotten to the point where the right thinks Obama planned it all for some nefarious purpose that they're never going to explain or even touch upon, only scream "OBAMA GOT AMERICANS KILLED!! HE IS DEVIL!! VOTE ROMNEY!!".

Amazing how easily they can ignore the 11 embassy attacks under Bush, the thousands of US soldiers killed in Bush's wars, and how they demanded blood for blood after 9/11 and attacked the wrong country.
