Mikey1969:
No it's not, but that doesn't decrease the amount of charitable stuff the LDS church does all of the time.

Sure it does, if they spent 10 million on propping up californian bigots then that is 10 million they didnt have to spend on charity work. simple one-to-one relationship

Mikey1969: codergirl42: Mikey1969: PanicMan: Came here to say this. Instead of donating to his church this year, why not donate to all the effected states?

While I think Romney is a total prick and doesn't give two shiats about anyone else, unless it benefits him politically to care, donating to the LDS church IS donating to charity. Their charities are huge, and they often arrive with supplies in disaster areas before the US government does. They already have a ton of ready distribution centers in their churches, and they buildings are laid out so that they could accommodate hundreds of people who need shelter.

Not defending Romney, not defending some of the practices of the LDS church. What I AM defending is the amount that their charities are able to provide to communities all over the world. They deserve credit for that at least.

Is it charitable to use that money to try to prevent the gays from marrying?

No it's not, but that doesn't decrease the amount of charitable stuff the LDS church does all of the time.

Not like you paid attention to my post in the first place, but I'll respond anyway. This was about how they help out people in need, not their bullshiat politics. You knew that though, and didn't let that stop you from ignoring my actual point to attack them on something that I wasn't defending in any way.

Chartible works or not I have nothing but contempt for an organization that will do whatever it can to destroy my marriage.

That money is separate than the money they use for charity.

/Just like Planned Parenthood.

So they have two seperate tithings? One for anti-gay causes and one for humanitarian causes?

Well, I don't black & white the world. I can resent a lot of stuff the LDS church does, but still admit that their charitable works are worth noticing. I don't feel at all conflicted by that.

I understand your resentment, and agree with your reasons, don't get me wrong, but if I saw everything in black and white, I'd have no choice but to loathe the entire planet.

On the one hand, they're feeding the poor. On the other hand, they're actively oppressing people's rights. Sorry, in my world those don't cancel each other, nor does the good excuse the bad.

If you save your neighbor's dog while beating your own children, that doesn't make you a good person, or even an okay person.

I suppose that would depend on whether you ask the kids or the dog.

No, wait, I do. New ones, at least there's a (very) slight possibility I missed the old ones.

Did anyone actually read the article? The thing they cite to for their "information" is this CNN article:
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/10/30/romney-on-storm-after m ath-people-are-hurting-this-morning/

Which says: "Romney's campaign told reporters that a Red Cross warehouse in New Jersey was accepting the donation."

The only place the supplies are going to, from that article, is New Jersey. Reading comprehension ftw?

So long as they convert first if they want to eat. Right?

Lionel Mandrake: They need money and blood, not cans of cream corn and pumpkin pie filling.

The Red Cross does not want to deal with a ton of miscellaneous food products.

And now they'll have to divert staffing to sorting out the 90% of miscellaneous foods that are expired, dented cans, rusted, etc. just because "those poors will be grateful for whatever we give them, plus it feels more charitable than just dumping it in the trash."

An example of why donating unwanted crap is not helping.

Nope. Not at all. They may be relentless when they come to your door, but there is nothing like that, no matter what people claim.

When it comes to Rmoney, he'd want to convert the victim, AND have a genealogical record of at least four generations back so he can convert their dead relatives as well.

but he's giving to charity, that's what matters. not that those cans aren't going to help that family get their house off Rt. 35.

What's important is that he appears to be doing something. Just ask Paul Ryan:

[static3.businessinsider.com image 642x439]

Folks need to let this one slide, focus in on Ryan's BS. Better to be passive-aggressive about Romney's vague, incompetent charity and point out he's doing what he constantly accuses democrats of doing, (thinking with their hearts and screwing things up for emotional reasons.
