Why do men die before their wives?

Because they want to.

"Ninety-year-old Norma and 94-year-old Gordon Yeager met while Norma was still in high school... Last Wednesday, as the couple was driving into town" - TFA

I think I found the problem.

2012-10-31 03:21:52 PM
I'm finding it hard to believe a 94 year old has the motor skills and reflexes needed to safely drive an automobile.

Then again, I guess he really didn't.

2012-10-31 03:23:38 PM
So it goes.

2012-10-31 03:28:27 PM
It may be a cute story about love, but my first thought was that if the 90-somethings were driving they were probably at fault, and hopefully didn't hurt anyone else...

FTA Last Wednesday, as the couple was driving into town, Gordon mistakenly pulled out in front of another car.

Bingo.

It was a family of 5 that died screaming in the flaming wreckage. But they were only living together, and the 3 kids were born out of wedlock.

My grandfather passed away while driving, my dad and uncle were in the car. My dad was 9 or 10, my uncle was just a toddler. I don't know if there was screaming involved, the subject was only brought up a couple times while my aunts and uncles were still alive.

On a fark related topic...

I'm not on the Internet a lot compared to a lot of people here, and I want to state I hate the "old news is so exciting" guys with a passion.

I realize the nature of the site is going to have repeats, but it seems like its gotten REALLY bad lately. Am I only the one that had noticed this?

It is an interesting story, though

NOWHERE in the article does it say the other people in the accident were Black.

Some of the people here in LA probably won't make it as long as this guy. And would be luck to have only killed two.

The article did not mention how the Farmer's Market fared in the crash.

2012-10-31 03:47:28 PM
Nice story even if old. Grandparents went in a similar fashion except grandma died instantly and grandpa held on for about a week after the car accident. Both were in there eighties. Grandpa most likely would have lived it he had his seat belt on. IIRC he was found not to be at fault.

The whole family should probably rethink getting behind the wheel. So far, of 6 people (parents and four kids), 4 of them have died in car accidents.

FTA -They had four children together, one daughter and three sons. Tragically, their two middle children were killed in car accidents

My cousin was driving his father to a casino in MS. About halfway there, he looks over and thinks his dad is napping. He decides to pull into a rest stop for a potty break, and my uncle won't wake up. My cousin then decided to just turn around, drive back, and delivered him personally to the small town funeral home. Caused a mell of a hess, trying to get a death certificate issued.

That's gotta be rough on the family. Double funeral.

My paternal grandmother had her parents die one day apart from each other. Pretty hard on the family as one was ill and expected to die and the other just dropped dead the next day. She and her (then newly announced) half sister were able to take care of it....but man, i can't imagine having to deal with that. I'd be a basketcase. No one talks much about it...twas in 1971, about a year and half before my time.

Feel badly for the couple's family but there is a time when you have to be firm and take the keys away.

Heck, it would be preferable to endangering other people.

/a quick death without leaving your spouse grieving sounds like it beats the hell out of how most people die.

Pants Full of Macaroni!, I love that song! Not obscure to me.

And I concur, what the bloody hell was a 94 year old person doing still driving a car? I'm sorry, most people past the age of 80 do not have the reflexes and reaction time necessary to safely operate a motor vehicle.

It's not mentioned in TFA, but when this story was greenlit last year, it mentioned the woman in the passenger seat suffered severe back injuries that were likely to cause permanent damage. But that unfortunate little tidbit gets in the way of this "heartwarming" story, so fark her.
