Citrate1007:

So lies and appeals to bible pounders.......does the GOP have nothing substantial?

Lies have always appealed to bible pounders.. That's why they pound them bibles so hard in the first place, remember?

I think it's funny how the GOP is so self righteous about the noble act of cutting spending, often citing it as the number priority for our leaders, yet when Obama cuts entitlement spending it's "stealing."

Hey, I'm part of the news! I recieved a message last night, so I KNOW they weren't doing their research. MD is far from a swing state and I'm one of the 95% of black people who voted for Obama. Not sure how they thought they would change my vote with that wack ass text. I got the one that said

"Obamacare is a $700 Billion gamble where Medicare recipients take the risk. Stop Obama!"

My response:

"Stop Obama from doing what? From helping you get affordable care? From killing Bin Laden? Don't spam my phone with this bullshiat. Obama 2012!"

2012-10-31 09:57:17 AM
Are these messages intended to sway anti-abortion, anti-gay, anti-Obamacare types who are considering voting for Obama? Seems like a small demographic.

When white people do it, it's finding supplies. When black people do it, it's looting.

"Voting for Obama means voting for same-sex marriage."

Awesome, guess I'm voting Obama.

God Is My Co-Pirate: I am still shocked that you're volunteering for the Obama campaign. Am I right in thinking that it's not so much that you've changed, but that Romney, and the current GOP, are just that terrible?

Obama's the strongest Republican president in decades.

I will always remember the advice Romney gave to me when I worked as an assistant in his Olympic office.

Always guide your life according to personal ambition, not principles.

2012-10-31 10:03:26 AM

sodomizer: While several people on social media sites angrily posted that the messages were coming from Republican Mitt Romney, there is no indication that the messages were sanctioned or produced by his campaign.

From TFA.

Yes, it was probably the Obama campaign that was texting people telling them to not vote for Obama. Definitely NOT any GOP campaign, though.

While we don't yet have flying cars, we can't cure brain swelling without cutting into the skull, and some people on this Earth still starve, I try to consider this era of 4g phones and tablet devices, fairly advanced medical care, increasingly more fuel efficient cars etc to be the pinnacle of human civilization. I can't complain having been born in this era.

But it's shiat like this, where human interaction has been lowered to monkies tossing turds at one another, coupled with the anti-science and my Jesus/Mohammad has a bigger peen than your prophet/God establishment that makes me realize we're still in the farking Dark Ages.

Stay classy people.

not as many as you'd think. look, part of the reason you do so much phone banking is to narrow down your contact lists and make sure you're contacting people who are going to vote for your candidate. its a waste of time and money to text people who aren't going to support your guy. you want to focus on the undecideds and make sure your own people are out there to vote for you on election day. Romney's people don't seem to be using 'clean' lists. that tells me they aren't doing the dirty, muddy, front line work that you need to do in order to be ready to fly on election day.

I think it is racist that they are making such a big deal about this but last week when people were tweeting that if Romney wins they would 'take matters into their own hands' was virtually ignored.

Ooh, maybe they'd use Second Amendment solutions? Seems like the Righ-wing extremists have a problem seeing their own tactics and language used against them.

Yes, please. We can discuss:
a) how much the tax cuts will reduce revenue (need actual numbers, here)
b) which deductions and loopholes will be eliminated to make that cut revenue neutral and
c) what's the point of the tax cut if the result is revenue neutral?

You're turn, MRN.

Can't disagree with you. While I think some of it is spilling over into the liberal side of the spectrum, I think most of it is fight fire-with-fire. 2000-2008 GOP fought hard and dirty without so much derp, Dems finally learned how to fight back. Feels like Dems have pushed the GOP over the edge, and there's no going back now.

The old Colbert 'go with your gut / Truthiness' joke has seemingly evolved into a fully endorsed GOP take on all issues. Bill Maher warns about the GOP 'in the bubble' mentality, seems to be the current day manifestation of Truthiness to me.

The anti-fact, anti-science thing is horrifying. "Evolution [etc].... are lies straight from the pit of hell"? How are all these clowns (anti-evolution and rape expects) on the science committee?

Come the fark on.

At least I'm not getting txt messages yet. I can't afford the requisite amount of whiskey needed to cope with that.

My concern is those 2nd amendment solutions and the stockpiles of ammo and the rumblings of stole the election are just starting to ramp up. Despite the fact that Obama has been ahead since the beginning... Being in a southern state, I am a little concerned...

I think that if there's going to be any sort of civil discontent out of the GOP its going to be loud, noisy and ultimately non-lethal. they'll all go into a room for a week, decide who's to blame and then kick that person's ass. then the GOP will conclude that they lost because they weren't far enough to the right, purge the party yet again...and come back to try again in 4 years.

which isn't to say that individual morons might not decide to get all shooty/stabby over the prospect of another Obama administration...but that's more of a local problem than anything organized at a state/national level. look, you know who your local idiots are better than anyone else. just make sure they've got someone sane who can watch 'em for the first 24 hours and you should be cool.

I probably would not vote for Joe for President (would depend on who my other choice was) but in no way is he an idiot.

The entire plan is predicated on continuous 5% growth and massive wage increases. I, for one, look forward to my $400k+ job (which everyone would need) to make Ryan/Romney's plan mathematically possible.

Weaver95: God Is My Co-Pirate:
I am still shocked that you're volunteering for the Obama campaign. Am I right in thinking that it's not so much that you've changed, but that Romney, and the current GOP, are just that terrible?

the Republicans really are that bad. I believe them when they say that they intend to govern the country via 'biblical principal'. In effect, the GOP plans to run this country as a theocracy....and I do not want to live in a theocratic society. I don't want to run even the RISK of living in that sort of society. So I've no choice but to vote Democrat.

This.

And they're not even planning on having a fiscally responsible theocratic society. Personally I don't see a single redeeming point in their platform. At this point my vote is pretty much cast for whoever the Republican's strongest contender is.

All that said, I've been somewhat pleased with Obama's term. He's caved to industry more than I would like and allowed government abuse of power to continue more than I would like, but some of that may not be his fault... and it's damn sure that his opponent would have done far worse in these areas than him.

Weaver95, I have been thinking more and more about getting involved with helping a campaign out; if I were to want to get involved the next election cycle, how should I go about doing so? Or... living in Texas should I just give it up as a lost cause until changing demographics start to even things out?

it is NEVER too late to start, nor is it pointless. find the local Democratic party HQ for your district and head down there and say you want to help with GOTV. believe me, they'll appreciate the help!
