Campaign ads spammed to your cell phone. I never knew the future would be so irritating.

2012-10-31 07:13:01 AM
It could be worse, they could be spamming your cell while calling your landline and sending you mail-in flyers. All at the SAME time!!!

/only been called by pollsters on my cell
//only occurred once

This is why using a text messaging program with a blacklist function is a good idea

I wonder if the GOP understands that being annoying isn't going to help them very much on election day...

Hmmm, which party would be more inclined to do this. The one who's base is already motivated or the one who's getting desperate?

Sorry Barry, you're goin down.

Talking about rape doesn't help yet they keep doing it. Lying about thing like Chrysler's Jeep expansion in China, then doubling down shouldn't help either, yet here we are. There's enough misinformed/uninformed/stupid people in the electorate that Romney is competitive, Akin may win the MO Senate seat and Stephen King (R-dogfight) is well ahead of Vilsack.

weird. By now, the Democratic voter lists have weeded out the non-Democrat voters and are focused on democrats and undecideds. you didn't perhaps tell a Democratic phone bank that you were an undecided voter did you? that would get you put on the call back list for sure.

It's a sad day when you suspect it isn't the Republicans because it's not racist enough.

This is why you shouldn't text SLUTBAG to 696969 to vote for your favorite dancer.

2012-10-31 09:16:08 AM
quite simply, this sort of tactic is sheer desperation. Look, the Obama campaign has had us phone banking and canvassing doors since mid september. every day we narrow down the phone lists, screening out GOP voters and focusing on getting undecideds to switch votes to Obama and getting the Democratic voters to commit to voting on election day. that's a LOT of work but we're almost to the point where our call lists are around 90%-ish accurate and up to date. so we're not wasting time/effort phone blasting to people who aren't going to vote OR who are gonna vote Republican.

Then along comes this mass txt phone blast from the Romney campaign. if they're sending text messages to people who aren't Republicans then that tells me they're working off VERY inaccurate voter lists. they haven't put in the time and effort to narrow down their voter rolls, organize people to get Republicans to the polls on election day. it's sloppy and they're paying the price for NOT building an effective campaign organization down on the ground where it matters. they needed to be doing that work over a month ago if they planned to be ready for election day/go time.

Being annoying has been their bread and butter for a long while, why would that change now.

2012-10-31 09:25:04 AM
I got a text message to "pls vt Rmny on elctn day" and I have to say, it was very convincing. Romney really showed he can text message better than Obama. That's going to matter when Iran keeps calling us and giggling when America answers the phone, then hanging up. Romney would just text Iran about what a biatch she is and avoid war entirely. Thank you Romney for keeping us safe.

the Republicans really are that bad. I believe them when they say that they intend to govern the country via 'biblical principal'. In effect, the GOP plans to run this country as a theocracy....and I do not want to live in a theocratic society. I don't want to run even the RISK of living in that sort of society. So I've no choice but to vote Democrat.

So I assume you have the same ire for Obama. Obama did claim that 800k US jobs would be lost due to territorial taxation by creating jobs "overseas"... Even politifact states that those jobs are not from a loss in the US. Oh wait, you only care about false implications when Romney does it. Should I talk about Obama's 5 Trillion dollar Romney tax plan that never existed? You see... both sides have been guilty, both sides of doubled and tripled down. Yet you show ire for only one side. Funny that.

Hey, I'm part of the news! I recieved a message last night, so I KNOW they weren't doing their research. MD is far from a swing state and I'm one of the 95% of black people who voted for Obama. Not sure how they thought they would change my vote with that wack ass text. I got the one that said

"Obamacare is a $700 Billion gamble where Medicare recipients take the risk. Stop Obama!"

My response:

"Stop Obama from doing what? From helping you get affordable care? From killing Bin Laden? Don't spam my phone with this bullshiat. Obama 2012!"

But it's shiat like this, where human interaction has been lowered to monkies tossing turds at one another, coupled with the anti-science and my Jesus/Mohammad has a bigger peen than your prophet/God establishment that makes me realize we're still in the farking Dark Ages.

not as many as you'd think. look, part of the reason you do so much phone banking is to narrow down your contact lists and make sure you're contacting people who are going to vote for your candidate. its a waste of time and money to text people who aren't going to support your guy. you want to focus on the undecideds and make sure your own people are out there to vote for you on election day. Romney's people don't seem to be using 'clean' lists. that tells me they aren't doing the dirty, muddy, front line work that you need to do in order to be ready to fly on election day.

I think it is racist that they are making such a big deal about this but last week when people were tweeting that if Romney wins they would 'take matters into their own hands' was virtually ignored.

Ooh, maybe they'd use Second Amendment solutions? Seems like the Righ-wing extremists have a problem seeing their own tactics and language used against them.

Can't disagree with you. While I think some of it is spilling over into the liberal side of the spectrum, I think most of it is fight fire-with-fire. 2000-2008 GOP fought hard and dirty without so much derp, Dems finally learned how to fight back. Feels like Dems have pushed the GOP over the edge, and there's no going back now.

The old Colbert 'go with your gut / Truthiness' joke has seemingly evolved into a fully endorsed GOP take on all issues. Bill Maher warns about the GOP 'in the bubble' mentality, seems to be the current day manifestation of Truthiness to me.

The anti-fact, anti-science thing is horrifying. "Evolution [etc].... are lies straight from the pit of hell"? How are all these clowns (anti-evolution and rape expects) on the science committee?

Come the fark on.

At least I'm not getting txt messages yet. I can't afford the requisite amount of whiskey needed to cope with that.

I think that if there's going to be any sort of civil discontent out of the GOP its going to be loud, noisy and ultimately non-lethal. they'll all go into a room for a week, decide who's to blame and then kick that person's ass. then the GOP will conclude that they lost because they weren't far enough to the right, purge the party yet again...and come back to try again in 4 years.

which isn't to say that individual morons might not decide to get all shooty/stabby over the prospect of another Obama administration...but that's more of a local problem than anything organized at a state/national level. look, you know who your local idiots are better than anyone else. just make sure they've got someone sane who can watch 'em for the first 24 hours and you should be cool.

I am still shocked that you're volunteering for the Obama campaign. Am I right in thinking that it's not so much that you've changed, but that Romney, and the current GOP, are just that terrible?

the Republicans really are that bad. I believe them when they say that they intend to govern the country via 'biblical principal'. In effect, the GOP plans to run this country as a theocracy....and I do not want to live in a theocratic society. I don't want to run even the RISK of living in that sort of society. So I've no choice but to vote Democrat.

This.

And they're not even planning on having a fiscally responsible theocratic society. Personally I don't see a single redeeming point in their platform. At this point my vote is pretty much cast for whoever the Republican's strongest contender is.

All that said, I've been somewhat pleased with Obama's term. He's caved to industry more than I would like and allowed government abuse of power to continue more than I would like, but some of that may not be his fault... and it's damn sure that his opponent would have done far worse in these areas than him.

Weaver95, I have been thinking more and more about getting involved with helping a campaign out; if I were to want to get involved the next election cycle, how should I go about doing so? Or... living in Texas should I just give it up as a lost cause until changing demographics start to even things out?

No shiat, right?

An ad came on last night while I was watching a reply of the 2011 Boston Bruins Stanley Cup run on NESN (goddammit NHL!)... I think it was for Maine, and they had some guy in a tight close up looking serious, who said "A vote for (blah blah didn't catch the opponent's name) is a vote for GAY marriage... Don't let it happen here!"...

These people are farking ridiculous. They don't even know what century they live in.

The best part? They tipped their hand with the message used as an example in TFA.

"ObamaCare funds pro-choice entities like Planned Parenthood"

Not "pro-abortion", but "pro-choice". They've been trying to convince everyone all along that they aren't trying to mess with a woman's right to choose, just with the morality of abortion, yet here they are specifically telling you to vote against the right to choose for yourself. Remind me again why the GOP has ANY female supporters...
