L.D. Ablo: CSB:

I went to school with a girl who has 12 toes. The freaky thing is that her feet look totally normal, except for the extra toe on each foot. Her parents decided not to have them removed because they were totally functional.

And then there was the girl with the extra nipple. On her side.

How would you have known she had an extra nipple?

Knew it had to either be India or West Virginia.

In India, the double thumb is considered a blessing. One of their biggest stars has a double thumb.

My son was born with 12 toes, I wish he could have kept them, they just struck out far enough that he couldn't wear shoes so they had to go...but I miss them!

ecmoRandomNumbers: Knew it was India before I even clicked. They're like the world capital of birth defects.

Indeed.

This little piggy went to market.
This little piggy stayed home.
This little piggy has roast beef.
This little piggy had none.
And this little piggy went "wee wee wee" all the way home.
And this little piggy....

Kept them, why?

Shoes or not, you did the right thing...

kemosabe: How does that not get stuck on something and pulled off?

fta Following an accident, Arpan lost a finger when he was just two years old.

'He was out playing when he injured one of his fingers and it just sort of came off,' Anil said.

I've had two team mates lose nipples in bike crashes. One was wearing a nipple ring and crashed into a rock Garden and tore it clean off. the other crashed in a crit and scraped it completely off road-rash style. In both cases the nipples completely regenerated. Which is a damn good thing because they were both freaked the fark out about not having a nipple.

good to know!
I had so much crashes that I barely notice it when I get a small cut in the forarms or calfs, but the only time I hurt my nipples was only a bruise and hurt like HELL! and I 'm a guy. Peoples with nipple-piercing are crazy, IMO
After that crash I' was afraid a realy unlucky earth-kissing could sand a nipple off.
Thank you for the info.

So worries. Interesting that I could help. On a related note, I've crashed once a few years ago and slid long and hard on my chest. All that saved me and my nipples was my Garmin HR monitor chest band. It's a very hard plastic, uch more so than Polar. I shudder to think of what would have happened otherwise. My fork broke while I was rolling down the road at about 25. It sucked.
Also, not all of us with nipple rings are crazy! Also, some of us sometimes have to take out the rings and lose the holes =(

I was born with an extra thumb and it wasn't removed until I was about two and a half years old. Growth of the remaining thumb on that hand was stunted enough from just those two years that it's nearly an inch shorter and only about 60% as thick as the one on the other hand.

2012-10-31 10:24:39 AM
er, no worries...

gsiofa: Ok, but how's his curveball?

Arkanaut: Pretty average, if he's anything like Antonio Alfonseca. Everybody knows you gotta lose fingers if you want that extra twist to your curve (see Brown, Mordecai).

I don't know about that. Check out those wide assed thumbs, and the large gap between them and the index finger.

It appears to me that this hand was created just for putting a wicked spin on ball.
Of course he was born in India, and they play cricket there, not baseball.

They should at least get rid of that weird little dangling pinky. That's gonna get ripped off someday.

And they have the responsibility to start a trust fund for a lifetime of custom shoes if they're not going to fix his feet.

Extra fingers that work, though? Pretty cool. Considering the kid's in India, he could be king of the call center with his mad typing skillz.

Wouldn't it be easier to make special shoes than to cut off toes?

Chinese women with bound feet made their own shoes all their lives. It isn't rocket science.

FirstNationalBastard: Ghastly: If I was born with extra fingers that were fully functional I would be pretty pissed if I found out later in life that my parents cut them off.

I still haven't forgiven them for cutting off my extra penis.

Joke's on you. Originally you had five penises, but they could never find pants for you that would fit like a glove, so down to one you went.

I still have all of my extra penises.

2012-10-31 12:45:15 PM

LadyHawke: If it's functional, then yeah, leave it on, but I would at least separate the fingers that are fused together.
sonorangal: The parents might want to reconsider removing the appendage on right hand that sticks out. That will really hurt if he catches it on something.
And possibly this too, especially if it's just hanging there and he can't use it.

I'd definitely remove that one finger that's just sticking out. I don't know about fixing the fused fingers. I used to know a girl who had a couple of fused fingers like that. They didn't bother her--might be a handicap today, though, since everyone has to type on keyboards. And these are the kid's thumbs, so maybe best to just leave them alone. They're important

I don't see how you could do much about his feet either, since it's his big toes that are sticking out there awkwardly, and you don't want to remove those. He's going to have a problem with shoes, for sure.

Do many Indians wear shoes anyway? Don't most Indians wear sandals or go barefoot? Unless they work in cities?

It's a hot dry country. If first world citizens lived there, they might get tired of washing the sand out of their socks, and go barefoot or sandeled, too.

Arkanaut: I support the parents' decision. He's going to be so good at math once he gets into grade school!

No. He'll be using base 13 while everyone else uses base 10.

I do not mean to pry, but you don't by any chance happen to have six fingers on your right hand?

2012-10-31 06:30:55 PM

thatboyoverthere: Actually I've thought about it. Ethically should we cut off fully functional extra appendages just to make them fit in? If my kid had an extra finger that worked I wouldn't.
/Of course with this kid they're deformed and he should probably get surgery.

I dunno. If your kids teeth are all jagged and he has a pronounced overbite, should you get your kid orthodontics? Let assume for the sake of argument that it doesn't affect his ability to eat or speak clearly.

There's a billion of them, and apparently in some village backwaters the ones that have weird defects are considered to have the shinning.

I know that this is Fark and all, but doesn't the fella want to run around with his little 4 year old friends? Playing tag and such? I'm bummed about them not fixing the feet.
