I for one welcome our troll overlords.

Umm.. Something to aspire to when others are actually helping people.

Nice society we got here.

Now that's a troll.

Some people don't like my opinion, but it's not a troll. My opinion is that most of the deaths from this storm were preventable.

And for that opinion I have been labeled a troll.

At least he didn't mention Howard Stern's penis bababooey bababooey bababooey.

There were trolling events at the local level too.

In Delaware, there were widespread reports that the Indian River Inlet bridge collapsed. Got so bad that DEMA (Delaware's little FEMA) had to put out a press release saying it was OK

If only there were someone or something to collect actual facts and report then in an objective fashion rather than simply repeat a rumor on Twitter. Yeah that would be a good thing.

Get your news reports from anonymous sources on twitter, you get the reliability of an anonymous source on twitter.

Huh, I guess it's been longer than I thought since I was there. That bridge was still under construction last time I was at Lewes.

The Buzzfeed article that outs the guy says he's a hedge fund analyst and Republican political consultant.

I have a feeling that once the waters recede, he's going to get popped in the jaw enough to rethink trolling.

Not just a consultant but the campaign manager for a GOP congressional candidate, which makes his motives very suspect in all this,

The bridge cost the state a lot of money. The first attempt to build it had to be abandoned because the new foundation supports started shifting. It was re-engineered and built again. It's only been open for about a year. Hence hearing that it collapsed went viral so fast. No one doubted that that was possible considering its history.

Apparently US 1 was actually closed just below the bridge and around Bethany due to mass drifting, which is shocking in itself. I mean, I know the road is close to the coast, and that area probably qualifies as a barrier island, but it's Delaware for fark's sake.

Sorry to come off like a dick and I know 99% of "normal" people don't care less, but as an OCD road geek I have to correct you. It's SR (state route) 1. US 1 goes from Maine to Florida and runs through Philadelphia and Baltimore. US 1 never enters Delaware.

That is all. Now back to our regular programming....

Hmm. Yep, you're right. I ought to know that better too, since it's one of only two roads in the damn state along with SR 404.

No kidding. No way would they get those fancy ricers out there with a hurricane coming. I'm calling BS even without the storm too, because the road is so straight and because of how tough the Delaware cops are on speeding. You need a spot with more curves and fewer cops for a credible mass drift story.

Actually only one, because 404 cannot be found.

Reading the buzzfeed link above.

So he deliberately retweets out plausible bad news involving public figures.

I would be happy to see him prosecuted and jailed. Real people needing to take real time during an emergency to deal with asshattery, thats on a par with shining a laser in the eyes of a rescue pilot.

The fact he's a hedge funder manager and republican operative just is icing on the cake.

Oh he got canned. That makes it pretty obvious.

Also, his little line about "While some would not take responsibility for this, I totally AM taking responsibility for this" struck me as really self-congratulatory. Like he genuinely thought he was taking the high road because he apologized for being irresponsible.

Yea, somehow, apologies ring a bit hollow when the person making them is all "Look at how awesome I am for apologizing".

Twitter is as reliable a source for the media as Wikipedia. Some of the stuff is accurate, but they usually fark up in sections because of opinion or trolling. If it doesn't have a blue checkmark behind it, fact check it before you retweet it!

That analogy reminds me of something Jim Rome said on his show after Cabrera got popped for 50 games for using PED's - just because he came clean and apologized doesn't mean he's sorry, he's just sorry he got caught. Why give him any credit for admitting he's a cheater? He's no better than Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds, or Rafael Palmeiro. Once a cheater, always a cheater and congratulations on ensuring you'll never get into the hall of fame.

/Once a troll, always a troll
//Only sorry he got busted
///Congrats on ensuring you'll never get a job in politics ever again...ass!

I've driven through Delaware three times, and every time it has been at a speed that I am certain is felonious in Delaware. Never been hassled. (Then again, everyone else was going 90 too)

You're all missing the really important thing in this entire story. From the photos on the page, you really, really must ask yourself, why is this guy in orange raping that old lady, and should she be allowed to get an abortion if she gets pregnant?

Bring back the Public Stocks. The wooden ones, not the kind this douche sells.

Lock him up right next to the bull statue and drop off all the rotted food ruined when the power went out.

Hell, if you charge $1 for each rotting tomato or maggoty piece of chicken people want to throw you can raise a ton of cash for the Red Cross.

Ok so dude was a total Douche with troll like proclivity. But it took me about a half a second to recognize the pic from the movie. Also at what point did social media become a news source? There are far too many trolls out there who would happily pull shiat like this just for the lulz.

//Media fail does not equal prosecutable stupid.

/His being a political figure wasn't determined until after someone said "Hey I recognize this scene" so that shouldn't actually be held against him either.

You're right. Posting plausible but untrue 'facts' is a jailable offense.

Continue to allow your brilliance to shine a light upon such injustices. I would look into trying These People as the war criminals they are.

I hope the next time the journalists involved go to complain about the death of their media that they take a second out to reflect that most of them took a completely unsubstantiated rumor and published it as fact. You don't get to act butthurt about twitter ethics.

Anyone in news media, or involved in the stock market that uses Twitter as a reliable source for anything, should be fired immediately, sent back to school, and forced to work with jr. high kids who apparently have the same intelligence level.

Sure, make it all about the guy on the social network filled with people who thought they could overthrow Iran by retweeting and not about the questionable ethics of people who supposedly spent at least four years in college in order to be paid to filter information for public consumption. Let's make it about one easily ignored person and not the Weeners; ISSUE CORRECTIONS LATER culture of internet news.

There's absolutely no larger criminal and potentially dangerous issue just staring us in the face right here at all so let's go after the guy with a lot of time on his hands.
