I really couldn't care less if Disney owns a comic book property but Industrial Light and Magic, that's serious shiat.

He does have a point- hopefully they can hire a good writer and good director and just stay the hell out of it. Unlike micro-managing Lucas.

My vote goes towards Chris Nolan Peter Jackson Zak Snyder anyone but Lucas.

All of the main films have been a box office success, with the overall box office revenue generated by the Star Wars films (including the theatrical Star Wars: The Clone Wars) totalling $4.49 billion,[1] making it the third-highest-grossing film series.[2] The success has also led to re-releases in theaters for the series.

They paid in what all six films have made in their lifetimes.

Safe to say they are going to squeeze the shiat out of this product.

JohnnyC: Not to stand out too much, but I liked all six of the movies.

My favorite is still the Empire Strikes Back, but I like all of them... yes, even The Phantom Menace.

I'll confess, I re-watched them over the past few weeks as research for a Star Wars D20 game I've been running. Yes, Jar-Jar is still annoying, but the prequels aren't as bad as I insisted they were a decade ago.

The only book that I disliked when it came out and still don't care for is Planet of Twilight. Barbara Hambly wrote a rather uninteresting character in Callista, and despite Kevin Anderson's best efforts to write her off, Hambly wrote her back in.

AgtSmithReloaded: As far as "Episode 7" is concerned.....ugh, please God, let it not involve any of the established characters. Let's face it: considering the advanced ages of the actors that played Luke, Han, Leia, et. al., the Thrawn Trilogy is pretty much off the table unless it's done Pixar-style (which fans will biatch about) or if different actors play the roles (which fans will REALLY biatch about). Their best move at this point would be to start a whole new storyline with new characters and have it all set well after the original trilogy. Anything else will just be a shambles.

The "expanded universe" can become an alternate universe. It always was an alternate universe - the universe in which there would be no more Star Wars films.

Mark Hamill is now the age Alec Guinness was in Star Wars. I don't care what the new story is, Old Luke should appear in the mentor role.

Darth_Lukecash: The sound of one hand clapping: I'm genuinely curious as to what the story would be in movie 7. At the end of movie 6, all jedi apart from Luke are dead (well, I don't know if it's specified but it certainly seems implied), Vader and Sidius are dead, the empire is defeated and relative peace has been restored to the galaxy.

Yes, the empire could resurface as a threat once again since it's easy to assume that many empire forces are still intact. But with the Jedi all but gone that's one of the biggest appeals out of the picture. What separated and continues to separate star wars from other 'epic space battle films' was that addition of these powerful people who fought against all sorts of weapons and creatures with nothing but their trusty lightsabers.

How can they recapture that initial magic?

In the prequels, they actually hint there were a lot of Jedi's who were still around that were not killed by Vader. Lucas actually did this because he had the live action TV shows to work on.

I always liked the West End Games Star Wars set during the OT that there were plenty of Force sensitives and Jedi left, they just had to be small potatoes compared to Vader/Emperor and Luke/Kenobi/Yoda.

It would be nice for the Force to have mystery and wonder again.

We kids had a decent back yard that had been dug up for sod or something. We all picked a spot and built dirt forts / cities for all the action figures, the tied string on the trees so our action figures could zipline to each others cities and have shootouts. It was awesome. During the summer we'd go out there for hours and hours, every single day. RyogaM: Anyway, the EU is not nearly as bad as everyone makes it to be, there are lots of good ideas to explore, including Imperial Remnants, Jedi academies, children of the main characters, etc. With the right approach, a serious approach, new films could be great. And, anyway, I'll always have the first three movies no matter what happens.

I think a lot of the trouble with the EU is that it's often sci fi, and Star Wars isn't really the same type of story as a Star Trek. EU is just sci fi, Star Trek-y for my tastes... just like the prequels got lost in the universe of sci fi dogma with the whole Jedi mitochondria, cloning, backstory for the Death Star thing.

The less children of so-and-so, Imperial whatsitsalreadygottheirasseskicked, Skywalker blah blah, I think the Star Wars gets better. As it gets more encumbered by the unevenly written Star Wars canon, I think "Star Wars" goes wrong quickly, IMO.

Why copy Lucas when he was kind of overrated?

Creating a counter to an existing universe power? You mean one of the basic elements of a story based around a power struggle?

Come now, you're basically objecting to storytelling. If he created a Jedi capable of penetrating the creatures block, then it's getting silly. Having checks and balances on the powers available to your characters isn't a problem though.

Okay, here's my take on the Star Wars thing.

Yes, the original three were basically my childhood. Yes, the newer three sucked balls. Yes, George Lucas is a douche. Yes to all of it. But that's how life goes.

That's only a problem if you're married to her. If not, just look at the old pictures and ignore the new ones. Same with Lucas and Star Wars. I'm not married to the new ones, I don't have to watch them, so I don't. I watch the old ones and ignore the new ones.
