Please, no re-boots. Make the story take place 30 years after Return of the Jedi with the original actors. They should all have kids now. A new danger could be threatening the Rebels. Just make it good, please.

Finally we'll get that long-awaited Star Wars/Avengers/Mickey Mouse crossover movie.

irgunner: Fark Star Wars... does this mean Maniac Mansion might show up on a current console or be adapted into a Hollywood movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Dave??

i hope someone beat me to this, but dont give them any ideas...

GAT_00: Carth: the Thrawn Trilogy is one possibly it is already done and a really good story that could be adapted fairly quickly.

That is the only hope for this.

Yup.

Well worth 7 minutes of your time.

The cartoon intro was good, so then I looked at gameplay videos.

It's just a disappointing Wolfenstein clone, and not even a good one at that.

They did, at one point, own the Angels & Mighty Ducks.

Might we see a baseball team, say the Orlando Jedi, with a light saber for a baseball bat in their logo?

Vertdang: Ball Zitch: NkThrasher: Thrawn

I'd like that, if they'd cut out the silly clone premise with the funny names. Could make for some good feature films, I suppose.
I'd also like to see something done with the Corran Horn character. Maybe a TV series or some featurettes.

A Horn story would be my first choice. Thrawn would need Luke and the gang.

Horn would too, but to a lesser degree. Now that I think about it, Luke and the gang could be replaced. Mayhaps with someone the likes of Katarn and other ancillary characters.

Then again, Disney hasn't farked with Marvel or Pixar (beyond Cars2). Might be OK.

I don't suppose that they would be willing to just leave Star Wars alone and do something else?

I didn't think so, either.

Could I at least get really good Blu Ray versions of the unfarked-with originals?

And ABC. Miramax (from 1993 to 2010). Buena Vista.

Disney released Pulp Fiction and The Golden Girls.

A scene a few moments ago and not so far away:

Disney: There is no escape. Don't make me destroy you.
[pauses]
Disney: Lucas, you do not yet realize your importance. You have only begun to discover your power. Join me, and I will complete your training. With our combined strength, we can end this destructive conflict and bring more crap to the galaxy.
Lucas: I'll never join you!
Disney: If you only knew the power of the Disney. Pixar never told you what happened to your daddy.
Lucas: He told me enough! He told me *you* killed him!
Disney: No. *I* am your daddy.
Lucas: No. No. That's not true. That's impossible!
Disney: Search your feelings, you *know* it to be true!
Lucas (and the millions of SW fans everywhere): [anguished] No! No!

Without Lucas's shackles, is it difficult to believe Fox will go for the quick cash grab?

FinFangFark: ILM, Lucasarts (video games) Skywalker Sound..it looks like they got everything. I don't know who has the toy deal, I would assume Lucasarts as the rights...as for the comics, I thought they were still published under Darkhorse, which is a DC sub isn't it? I haven't opened a Star Wars comic in a long time.

Hasbro is still licensed to make Star Wars action figures, I don't necessarily see any reason for this to effect that. They also make the figures and other stuff for Marvel movies and more. Mattel makes a lot of other Disney stuff (Cars, Disney princesses dolls) but they seem to suck at making action figures so I hope they continue working with Hasbro too, especially for Marvel stuff.

Lego also recently renewed their licensing agreement for Star Wars, so they will keep making building sets for at least a few more years. Again, Lego also makes Marvel themed sets including Avengers, and they have Disney themed sets too.

I could see them trying to take Star Wars back from Dark Horse when their deal expires and bringing it back to Marvel since that would effect their profits directly.

Great news. Much better than Lucas making another 2 hour expose on intergalactic tariffs or writing dialogue for Natalie Portman. And if Disney rolls out a full on "Star Wars World" portion in one of their parks, it will be fantastic. I went to Star Wars Weekends down there 5 years ago and thought it was an absolute blast.

IIRC, it was Lucas killing it from ever happening, though, wasn't it? If he's not in the picture, someone else could do it.

Ha I wasn't aware of it (yup I pay attention to sports and Disney just that much), but at least they don't own all of them...

Mr. Iger made it clear his main interest in acquiring Lucasfilm was to get the lucrative Star Wars franchise. He said Disney's deal makers assigned no value to the Indiana Jones series and its characters, in part because rival Paramount Pictures owns the distribution rights.

LOL

There's still plenty of stuff I loved as a kid that Disney still doesn't own like GI Joe and Transformers (owned by Hasbro). Plenty of other kids stuff is owned by other companies like Mattel (Barbie, Hot Wheels) and Nick (Spongebob, TMNT) to name just a couple

I figure GL wants to retire and this is his cash-out. I have no problem with that.

My only concern is what happens to the Skywalker and Big Rock properties and the ILM facility in San Francisco. Hopefully they remain well managed and low-key under new ownership.

He was my neighbor for 25 years. I have no problem with GW, he's generous with his bucks in his home town - re-built the local music store when the old building was about to fall down, just donated a downtown building to be demolished and turned into a park.

HoratioGates:
Actually, I think a reform of the copyright law would be a better solution. I think there should be a tax on copyrights. You could calculate the value of the tax based on the copyrights previous earnings. If you chose not to pay the tax the work goes public domain. You could set a low exemption level, so copyrights wouldn't expire on things that were never widely published until the death of the author, and you could extend the rights beyond death by whoever is willed the rights continuing to pay the tax. The result? More stuff in the public domain for consumers. More stuff in the public domain for people who want to do treatments of classics. More tax revenue. More creativity. People can keep copyrights if they want them and it's not difficult to do so as long as the franchise is making money, but if you are screwing up the franchise it becomes more and more of a burden to keep it.

+1

Mugato: T.rex: I don't know about that... The Avengers, and 2 separate Pirates movies have made more worldwide box office than any Star Wars movie.

Maybe if you don't adjust for inflation or the fact that if it wasn't for ILM those movies would be made with stop motion puppets.

The first animation with with synced sound? Steamboat WIllie. The first feature length cartoon? Snow White... so i guess all that fancy modern-day 3D animation circles back to Disney.

No way. They would have to recast all the major characters. I don't buy it.

I don't think so. I'm sure that I remember reading that Sam and Max are creator-owned and were optioned by Lucasarts for games for a limited time that passed before Telltale released their Sam and Max games.

Agreed. I'm positive that the prequels (and the new Indy) would have been better off in the hands of The Asylum and directed by Ewe Boll. Lucas is a hack and always was.
