Also I'm betting we see a live action Star Wars TV show on ABC within 5 years.

Maybe they'll "lock" the movies in their "vault" and stop farking with them. Episodes 1-3 should get the Song of the South treatment.

/Probably get the Land Before Time treatment instead
//Straight to DVD

Not sure how I feel about this. On one hand, Disney could completely fark things up and ruin the franchise.

On the other hand, George won't be farking with the films anymore and they might just do something good.

2012-10-30 04:34:26 PM

Special J: Other than the fact it was his to screw up, I don't see how Disney can fark this franchise up any worse than Lucas already did.

I find your lack of faith disturbing.

Seen opens Imperial Storm trooper marching singing "It a small world after all" Hans turns to Goofy and says Hold on here we go. Fade to Mickey saying to Darth Vader the farce is strong in this one.

Is this where we complain about how George Lucas made three classic movies 30 years ago that were aimed at children, and then destroyed our lives by making three movies 25 years later that were, oddly enough, aimed at children as well? How dare he not pander to the 40 year olds still sleeping on C3PO sheets and wearing their Boba Fett jammies!

/Good for you George
//Hope you're laughing all the way to the bank
////Thanks for the memories!!!

2012-10-30 04:34:55 PM

sure haven't: Am I the only one who sees this as a good thing?

Basically George Lucas has absolutely ruined and mishandled his entire enterprise. It can only go up.
And speaking of Up!, Disney did good with Pixar (admittedly just by being hands off), so maybe good things will come of this.

/DNRTFA

To be honest, there wasn't an article. The article was two sentences and a 'more to come' tag.

There's good and bad in this. The good is that Lucasfilm is away from Lucas himself, who pretty much dropped everything but Star Wars and then dragged it through the mud until pretty much everyone was making better Star Wars media than Lucas. The question is which Disney gets to handle Lucasfilm? Is it the Disney that nearly destroyed itself with bad animated films, or is it the Pixar side of Disney that saved the company from being a laughing stock?

I would call Disney a better owner of Lucasfilm than Lucas, but Disney has their own problems. If it works out like Marvel, and they just give them money to produce popular high-quality works, then it'll be fine. If they put the wrong people in charge of the studio, it could be an even bigger disaster though.

/still curious if this meanS Disney owns the Star Wars franchise, or just Lucasfilm... NEED MORE INFO

I don't know how to feel about this. On the one hand, John Carter. On the other hand The Avengers/Pixar. I do know, that wrestling Star Wars from Lucas hands is probably a good idea.

I can't imagine this includes the right's to Star Wars. I'll not believe that until I see proof. The right's to that ip alone are in the billions of dollars.

This explains why I saw C-3PO on a Disney show my niece was watching. If Disney doesn't fark this up, I guess this will be a upgrade.

Is everyone here that is upset also mad Disney owns Marvel and Pixar? Avengers was pretty good and Pixar has a great track record. Maybe they'll actually save the star wars franchise and release a good film for the first time in 32 years.

I wonder if its just Star Wars disney will own or will it be Indiana Jones and Lucasarts too??

Holding out hope for another great Indi Movie and Grim fandango sequel. I might as well wish for unicorns and bigfoot to be real too i know

Disney can't do any worse than the previous 3 and they did do a great job on making sure that The Avengers went off well.

flaminio: Ms. Kennedy will serve as executive producer on new Star Wars feature films, with George Lucas serving as creative consultant. Star Wars Episode 7 is targeted for release in 2015, with more feature films expected to continue the Star Wars saga and grow the franchise well into the future.

This is a joke, right? An early April Fools'?

Zahn needs to be the creative consultant, not Lucas.

Really movies were the plots revolve around trade disputes and how a government goes from a democracy to a dictatorship are aimed at children? Which children are those?

Walt_Jizzney: Sadly yes. A blue IMP admiral that has some stupid creature that eats the force.

/"LUUKE"? Lol claptrap

Meh, to each their own. Of existing storylines post original trilogy I (and others I have talked with about this subject) enjoyed Zahn's books the most.

Dalrint: Unfortunately, no. Not unless they recast everyone, since they're all forty years too old to make that movie.

I'm okay with this in concept, obviously execution can go awry, but either they have to recast existing characters, go CG, or not use existing characters that they aren't going to CG (Yoda ghosts etc).

2012-10-30 04:37:45 PM

craxyd: The Fett: Only good can come from this. Star Wars resuced from the diseased hand that Lucas has become.

Except for the ridiculously huge stick Disney has up its ass about "copyright infringement"... All of us costumers can pretty much kiss our respective organizations like The Dark Empire, the 501st & the Mandalorian Mercs goodbye

I'm not a cos play guy, so that would have little impact on me. I like the 501st and what they do for charity. Disney would be foolsih to step in and quash that.

Your point is well taken though. Lucas has been really lax and accomodating on his copyright. Robot Chicken and The Family Guy have done great work, plus all the fan movies and youtube stuff (Troops, Pink 5, Chad Vader...).

Disney may very well get all force chokey with that sort of thing

2012-10-30 04:37:52 PM
They can't be worse then the last three right? RIGHT???

impossible. Star Wars takes place in the past and has no place in Tomorrowland

2012-10-30 04:38:17 PM

KarlMaldensNose: I don't know, you could very well have a Joss Whedon direct a Star Wars movie now that Lucas is (mostly) out of the way. I could actually see this being a good thing. Also remember that most of the good Marvel movies have come out with Disney in charge.

Not a movie, how about series involving a scruffy nerf herding human smuggler, a veteran of the clone wars, his bad ass Twi'lek second, a pilot, A female zeltron engineer, a human doctor, his flighty sister who is under the care of a mysterious holy man with strange powers, and their wookie deck hand. They could be knocking about the galaxy dodging Imperials and helping criminal scum in their old tramp freighter their Whedon mark 2.

jj325: Is this where we complain about how George Lucas made three classic movies 30 years ago that were aimed at children, and then destroyed our lives by making three movies 25 years later that were, oddly enough, aimed at children as well?

"Aimed at children" and "Sucks" are not synonyms. There are a great many things aimed at children that are actually very high quality; the bulk of the Star Wars-related output is not in that group.

/Star Wars-themed things that are high quality:
//The original trilogy
//The Super Star Wars games
//Star Wars: Clone Wars (the one from 2003, not the current CGI shiatfest)
//Knights of the Old Republic
//The end

2012-10-30 04:38:42 PM
I have zero problem with this. None. Zip. Zilch. Nada.

Lucas cannot make good movies, or at least cannot make good Star Wars movies. If his universe and characters had been treated by a good screenwriter, better actors and a good director, they could be some of the greatest films of all time, instead of just money makers. I actually have more faith in Disney providing good movies of the Star Wars universe than I have had in Lucas for a long long time.

It seems strange to say that Lucas was only interested in selling toys, when speaking positively about a buyout by Disney, but that's the way I feel.

There is a very good chance this will improve things.

And if not, who cares? I'm kind of sick of the Star Wars universe now anyway. It is up to Disney to show me if that is solely because of Lucas or not.

Made by Disney?

How about no.

/please, god no.

2012-10-30 04:38:46 PM

sure haven't: ArkPanda: I'm not seeing this as a disaster. Disney has made some kickass stuff over the years (and yes, some ass stuff too). This has instantly become their #1 franchise and they are going to take it seriously.

ILM + Pixar = I'll be in my bunk

THIS

/it should've been sequels ALL ALONG, not prequels

No. By Empire, Lucas wanted to go back to tell the first three films (That's why he put chapter V on "A New Hope" in the re-release right before Empire) While he was thinking about doing films after Return of the Jedi- by the time he got to making it, he decided just to wrap the whole thing up due to the fact he lost his wife because of his workaholic ways.

Revenge of the Sith is tied with Empire as my second favorite Star Wars Movie. To have a father, who was eager to be a father, become a child killer is a chilling thing.
