From the producers of "Pirates of the Caribbean 7", it's "Star Tours: The Movie"!

2012-10-30 04:19:15 PM
That seems to be a goofy move...

Only good can come from this. Star Wars resuced from the diseased hand that Lucas has become.

It would probably be better than "The Phantom Menace."

Between this and marvel I guess they really do.....

Am I the only one who sees this as a good thing?

Basically George Lucas has absolutely ruined and mishandled his entire enterprise. It can only go up.
And speaking of Up!, Disney did good with Pixar (admittedly just by being hands off), so maybe good things will come of this.

Lucas will be the world's wealthiest washed-up midget. Like Bridget, only with a worse record of delivering decent work.

2012-10-30 04:20:47 PM
Ms. Kennedy will serve as executive producer on new Star Wars feature films, with George Lucas serving as creative consultant. Star Wars Episode 7 is targeted for release in 2015, with more feature films expected to continue the Star Wars saga and grow the franchise well into the future.

This is a joke, right? An early April Fools'?

2012-10-30 04:20:56 PM
Damn, you would have thought a washed-up franchise, abandoned by many of its biggest fans, would be worth that much?

Well, I didn't think Lucas could find more ways to make Star Wars into a complete farkfest before he died.

Looks like I was wrong.

2012-10-30 04:21:05 PM
Hopefully it will mean a section in the Magic Kingdom just for Star Wars, and not some lame-ass Avatar land.

Hang on. I'd be surprised if Lucas gave up "creative" control.

2012-10-30 04:21:21 PM
I'm having a hard time believing Star Wars is only worth four billion dollars. Putting aside all the other IPs Lucasarts owns.

Or maybe it's just the film part?

2012-10-30 04:21:25 PM
It cannot possibly get any worse than the latest 3 films, so who cares?

How about - "Disney : Obeyyyyyyyyy."

That poor childhood.

2012-10-30 04:21:48 PM
Does this mean George Lucas can never harm our childhood again?

Disney makes all sort of derivative works from the originals but they don't screw with the master footage except to make it look clear on BluRay. Oh, and they totally suppress things they'd get shiat for, like Song of the South.

2012-10-30 04:21:54 PM
Don't you guys have a competition bureau that regulates these things? Or does it not apply to the entertainment industry?

2012-10-30 04:21:57 PM
hmm, this is tough. On the one hand, the Evil Empire now owns the Evil Empire. On the other hand, this means that someone other than Lucas will be writing any future movies.

2012-10-30 04:21:59 PM
Does this mean that Carrie Fisher is now a Disney Princess?

Nope.

"For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next," said George Lucas, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lucasfilm. "It's now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I've always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime. I'm confident that with Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy, and having a new home within the Disney organization, Star Wars will certainly live on and flourish for many generations to come. Disney's reach and experience give Lucasfilm the opportunity to blaze new trails in film, television, interactive media, theme parks, live entertainment, and consumer products."

I'm not seeing this as a disaster. Disney has made some kickass stuff over the years (and yes, some ass stuff too). This has instantly become their #1 franchise and they are going to take it seriously.

ILM + Pixar = I'll be in my bunk

2012-10-30 04:22:43 PM
Maybe we'll see 7,8,9 by the time my daughter is old enough to be turned to the dorkside.

Hey, it's just a business deal between rich white people.

But I did enjoy the animated crossovers that 20th Century Fox allowed with the characters and universe.

Finally we can be assured of getting star wars 7,8 and 9.

Except for the ridiculously huge stick Disney has up its ass about "copyright infringement"... All of us costumers can pretty much kiss our respective organizations like The Dark Empire, the 501st & the Mandalorian Mercs goodbye

Ugh...I tired to find the green to post the "Nooo"

But seriously...ugh.

And I think this is Lucas' way of saying "Fark this, I'm out"

I don't know, you could very well have a Joss Whedon direct a Star Wars movie now that Lucas is (mostly) out of the way. I could actually see this being a good thing. Also remember that most of the good Marvel movies have come out with Disney in charge.
