randomjsa: And if this were a rich liberal doing the same thing to a Republican, you would blame the Republican for not taking the rich liberal up on his offer. So what?

Yea, I don't think that's true at all.

In fact, I'm pretty sure no sane person would expect or encourage the President of the United States to engage in a petty feud with reality tv personality.

Yup. I was going to ask if he's publicly responded to Mr. Colbert's offer yet.

Stephen Colbert is a national treasure.

It would be cool if Stephen Colbert donated the $1 million to the recovery efforts anyway to "show up" Donald Trump. Or better yet donate the $1 million and insinuate that Donald complied.

Whenever a story about a Republican acting idiotic comes up, people like randomjsa immediately invent a hypothetical scenario where a Democrat did the same thing, and smirk at how hypocritical those imaginary Democrats defending him are.

But when the story IS about a Democrat, no such parallel universe is constructed. Only then does he have something to say about the act of idiocy itself, and nothing about the imaginary scoreboard. So whenever a Democrat does something bad, it's a win, but when a Republican does something bad, it's merely a tie. No ground is ever ceded, and the gulf simply grows wider over time.

"You would blame the Republican for not taking the rich liberal up on his offer." It's amazing how you just know what everyone complaining would do, and how it totally lets your "team" off the hook, every single time!

And once again, another article about this fails to notice the REAL reason he issued his bullshiat challenge. To distract from the news that he's been fired from managing the tower in New York with his name on it. He issued that challenge on the same day the public announcement was made that he was being fired. It's not a coincidence. The whole stunt was a calculated PR move so that the news of his firing would be drowned out to protect his utterly undeserved reputation as a businessman.

My guess is that in the wake of Hurricane Sandy he's probably trying to make sure the issue doesn't come up again since the new management company might be making announcements about the state of their property and he wants anyone who notices that it's suddenly not Trump to have something more "juicy" to talk about, again. It's a cold, calculated PR move and it seems to be working effectively.

Grand_Moff_Joseph: Here's an idea: You wan to donate that $5 million so farking bad? How about you donate it to the Red Cross right this second. Or better yet, walk out on the streets and give every person you see a $100 bill until you run out of money.

I am not a fan of chris christie. But given his past statements, I actually have to reserve an iota of respect for him for publicy thanking the president for his efforts so far. Just think how trump could improve his image by saying "in light of the horror facing many of my fellow new yorkers and the presidents occupation in trying to help them, I am going to donate the 5 million to red cross for recovery efforts."

Now, realize what will really happen and despair.

AutumnWind: Donald,

This whole batman villain who thinks the president should pay any attention to you act really went from being funny, to weird, to just downright delusional and if this isn't only for attention I honestly worry about your mental health.

It's not for attention, it's a cynical ploy to distract from some other bad news of his. He made the "challenge" on the same day Trump Towers in NYC announced they were firing him. They gave him one week's worth of notice. This is all a cynical PR move by Donald Trump... and judging by the coverage he's getting and the threads we've had about this BS it's largely working.

No. False equivalence is false -- it's a douchebag move to score cheap press and political points by throwing around ultimatums like that. There are more important issues going on in this campaign, and Trump just wants to be the center of attention. If it were a liberal (like say Soros came out and blackmailed Romney to release his tax records in return for a donation to the Mormon church or some bullshiat), it would STILL be a douchebag move.

I know a lot of people want to see President Obama try to trade tax returns for school records, or respond in a certain way...but I like the fact that Trump is being ignored. It's the best way to infuriate someone who so clearly wants attention. It's delicious watching the media and the rest of the GOP slowly back away from him. It's a soothing ointment for the irritation of watching him toy with the idea of running for president eventually. I'm fairly confident this has killed any support the GOP might have given him, and I'm hoping that he'll no longer be included in any political discussions from now on.
