It's not that hard to believe. Tourette's is simply misfiring neurons in the motor control and speech centres of the brain. MJ smooths neural activity.

Anybody else catch that the video is 4:20 long?

Tourettes sucks, i have mild tourettes which can get really freaking annoying from time to time, but i cannot imagine living with it full blown. I do agree that cannabis can definitely help as it can relax the brain. It worked for me in the past, haven't used it in years though.

I was going to say those are some big ass one person joints he is rolling but then I remembered that he is in Germany and they all mix tobacco in with weed. I remember people turning down hits off my "pure" joints. They would look at me like I was crazy. I also want to send this guy a vapor pen and some cartridges so he doesn't have to roll and light a joint whenever he needs to medicate. If you don't know what a vapor pen is and are curious, they're basically e-cigs for weed. Here is a link to the ones that I like.

Jesus Christ, :( what a horrible way to live. I cannot imagine having to do daily things and be flailing all over the place like that. Even having a cup of coffee or reading a book would be almost impossible. You would think that they could take the mary jane and make a pill that would give the same medical benefit to people like this poor man. That was just farking awful.

2012-10-30 04:46:56 PM
In the past when I've gone through periods of smoking a lot of weed, my body would build up a tolerance and I'd need more and more just to get the same effect. Would that be the case with using it to treat Tourette's?

2012-10-30 04:47:56 PM
I've read that tobacco is used for Tourettes too. In any case, what an amazing transformation.

A good friend of mine has a younger brother that has very mild tourettes that he has under control, the only thing he does is make a weird noise. The only time I have ever heard him do it was when we smoked really good weed. So it has the opposite effect on him.

Bit'O'Gristle: You would think that they could take the mary jane and make a pill that would give the same medical benefit to people like this poor man. That was just farking awful.

They do, it's called Marinol. It's one of Big Pharma's ways of keeping cannabis illegal. Whenever anyone points out that weed has medicinal uses, the first thing they point to is Marinol, saying "the pharmacy industry already has that taken care of!". See Big Pharma does not like the idea of a plant that can actually help you, because they can't regulate/control it, unlike pills.

They use a synthetic THC to create the pills. Now you may think "great!" except it doesn't really work well at all. The biggest issue is people cannot control the dosage like they can when smoking it. One pill of Marinol may be too much for some and they get that sick/nauseous feeling that it's supposed to be fixing. Plus it's expensive as hell.

Most people who are prescribed it (because they know the medicinal benefits of cannabis, but many states cannot prescribe actual cannabis) eventually switch back to the illegal, combustible version.

2012-10-30 05:07:28 PM

scottydoesntknow: Plus it's expensive as hell.

it's shockingly expensive actually, like why-the-fark-would-anyone-ever-buy-this-stuff-ever-expensive. like you can buy a quarter pound of weed a month for the cost of your prescription expensive.

The mind is a fascinating, terrifying thing. I have a schizophrenic relative, and cannabis use actually exacerbates many of his symptoms. Of course, schizophrenia and Tourette's are two completely different illnesses, but it's still interesting to see how it can affect the brain.

2012-10-30 05:23:35 PM
I remember watching a documentary about a guy in the UK who had severe tourette's like this guy. I can't remember whether there was any medication he was taking or not (I don't even know if there is medication for tourette's to be honest) but I seem to remember that he didn't get much if any relief.

The documentary followed him for several months. It ended by saying that he had taken his life. It was absolutely heartbreaking to watch.

It's not your body building up a tolerance. It's your brain becoming accustomed. You needed to feel "weird" to feel like it was working. The more you smoked, the more being high felt normal, the more it took to feel weird.

When I was working at the MGM Grand, there was a program where the city of Las Vegas was trying to find employment for unemployable people. We started out with a few dozen of these people, but over the course of a year, most of them weeded themselves out.

One of those people was a mentally challenged young man named Jimmy who had among other problems, Tourette's. Things were going fine at first because we had him working at the back of the house. But then his mother got this bright idea to threaten to sue the MGM Grand if her son wasn't out there on the casino floor like everybody else.

The MGM Grand relented and they put Jimmy out on the casino floor. Jimmy didn't do too well around crowds and that's when his Tourette's got really worse. Jimmy had this nightmarish laugh like all of the world's serial killers put together into one person. He could actually clear a bank of slot machines just by giggling. Here in Las Vegas, I've seen slot zombies stand their ground against fires and flood. I've never seen those old buzzards move so fast when jimmy was laughing.

Because thats what the feds do. It doesn't change the fact that there are lots of states they leave alone. States rights will eventually prevail. In the meantime we dont just give up because it's hard. We keep fighting on every front.

Tourette's originates in the brain, so are you saying that a patient will need increasingly more weed to get the same pharmacological benefits? Or is it possible to get the benefits of reducing symptoms of Tourette's even if you don't feel high?

The reason I ask is that I recall seeing a documentary where some guy was suffering from arthritis and he said weed helped his condition. But he also said that he had been smoking weed for so long, he doesn't really feel high anymore, but it still helps his arthritis. I was wondering if it worked the same way for Tourtette's.

Doing my ballot tonight. Even my wife, who doesn't think people should smoke, is voting yes. She understands it's a waste of money to fight it.

I grew up with a kid that had tourettes. We never knew it at the time {or did he}, we just thought he was weird. He had the strange nervous habits - face twitching, a hiccup/ cough thing and every once in a while when he walked he would wipe or check the bottom of his shoes. His parents divorced and he moved on then he called me a few years ago out of the blue & told me he was diagnosed with it.

lokisbong: quickdraw: Because thats what the feds do. It doesn't change the fact that there are lots of states they leave alone. States rights will eventually prevail. In the meantime we dont just give up because it's hard. We keep fighting on every front.

I agree with the other commenter that we need to deal with the federal level first or in my opinion the feds are just wasting our tax dollars busting these places when it's legal at the state level.

The feds dont lose money busting the drug cartels the retail bud shops. And - if you know anything about the nitty gritty reality of pot distribution in cali then you know theres a reason the local cops and lawyers arent doing squat against the feds. Its not the same everywhere - even in other parts of cali.

The fight against marijuana prohibition is being fought the same way alcohol prohibition was fought. And its working. Its just a messy process no matter how you do it.

Good for him. We need to end the era of legislating what informed adults put in their bodies and instead address the factors that lead to drug addiction.

Bit'O'Gristle: Jesus Christ, :( what a horrible way to live. I cannot imagine having to do daily things and be flailing all over the place like that. Even having a cup of coffee or reading a book would be almost impossible. You would think that they could take the mary jane and make a pill that would give the same medical benefit to people like this poor man. That was just farking awful.

Jaykzo: Over 50% of the country supports decriminalizing marijuana. Less than 2% of our congress does.

Can someone tell me why we still call them our "representatives"?

thats easy..they actually represent the people that vote, not the populace, wanna guess what portion of the over 50% actually vote?

I knew a guy in high school who had a mild version of it. He would cough and clear his throat pretty much constantly.

Had a kid in jr high with that had it as well. He was twitchy, and he had a habit of cooing like a pigeon when we'd be in the middle of a test. He was picked on a lot. At the time, I was pretty geeky, and I admit I picked on him as well.

Now, If I had a child who bullied someone else, there would be pretty severe repercussions.

This is common sense to people, which is why I don't understand how so many kids are assholes.

Oh, wait, it's because a bunch of parents are assholes.

What they don't tell you is that the Tourette's is caused by marijuana WITHDRAWAL! Look at that loser flopping around because he hadn't had his fix. Weed: Not even once a week.

I know the feds are not losing money...we the people are still paying for the feds to bust "legal in Cali" shops and I call that a waste of tax money. Also I don't know about the shops but the few people who I knew in Cali with M.M cards had legit reasons to use Pot for medicine( for appetite enhancement for a cancer patient on chemo and a really bad insomniac). They should be going after the people giving out M.M. recommendations for people who have no medical reason to have one not the shop that supplies them. You shouldn't go after the pharmacy you should bust the crooked doctor.

Bullshiat. This is a fight that must be demonstrated and fought.

The "War" on "Drugs" is too efficient a means of stealing the funds and liberties of the masses to be successfully stopped by the masses. Those funds are keeping the financial ponzi going. There will be no relief from the feds. It's against their interests. And, no, electing someone to "change" it or "hope" it out of existence is not going to fix it. Didn't work the last time, did it?

I remember seeing some talk show about it, and there was a panel of children who had it in the studio. I remember some expert being interviewed by the host, and there were constant "BEEP!! BE-BEEP!!" happening as the panelists expressed themselves. I found it rather funny, actually.

Ah, No

It is ilegal to here, even for medical purpose.
The only thing we have is they don't fark you for " small quantities", wich can be anything from 3 to 15 grams depending on where you live.
Funny thing:
To keep your stack under this limit, you have to buy it from criminals, and might end with dirt weed.
People have died or gotten real sick from bad weed with nasty stuff in it.
If you do it the clean way, grow yourself, you always end up with more than the minimal amount, that makes you a criminal an can end with punishment higher than for beating someone to a pulp.

My god, can you imagine the Spray if when he tries to take a piss? his bathroom must look like.......I cant even imagine its that bad.....

Or if he's jumping around like that trying to take a dump.

Also, if someone has tha tmuch loss of control, why is he using cups that will shatter when he places them on the counter. I'm thinking he has a problem, but it's a Tad overstated in the video, and by that i mean it's just a pro-pot commercial.

would have to stay stoned 24hrs a day? yoinks

yeah, but that's the sensory experience. it should still slow your motor neurons for people with Tourrette's even if you dont feel nearly as awesome because your tolerance is so strong. but that's also a bummer not feeling so awesome all the time.

I guess my only question is how much of the untreated Tourettes we saw was withdrawal?

/ Dramatic.
