I had no problem with him leaving. It's listening to him prattle on and on this entire off-season about how the Celtics offered him too much money and a no trade clause.

I figure Boston fans are the only ones that hear about this stuff endlessly. Which makes sense given the history with their media killing anyone that any local team wants to get rid of before and after they leave.

You are probably right.

I find it humorous how big a deal the Celtics are making the whole "having to be there for the ring ceremony" thing. I can't ever remember it being so big that people need to comment on it multiple times and hide before the game for fear of ruining something.

Also, $5 on there being some sort of shoving or arguing almost fight-ness. Over under is 7 minutes in to the second quarter

Gunny Highway: You are probably right.

C's are the ones with the best shot at an upset. Mavs with no Nowitzki? I'll probably watch the first half or so just to see the Lakers' new lineup. I don't care about the other matchup (because it's two also-rans), but the Cavs should win, right?

The best part about tonight is all the stupid chatter (all I heard was positive things from Doc and LeBron) ends and the play on the court is all that matters.

Pissed about Granger. Looking forward to watching the Pacers this season.

Yeah.

I have to work early so I will prob only catch the 1st half of the late game also.

Looking forward to seeing the Cs role players tonight. And Rondo of course.

Ugh. I was really hoping Shaq was not going to be back. Ruining my favorite show.

Chuck: "Size always matter" and a middle finger in the first 5 minutes.

True. The guy is untouchable.

Boston is better without Ray once Avery comes back. Lots of strength at the SG position.

Kind of like how the crybaby Heat biatched and moaned about the Mavericks doing their banner raising last year in the opening game? Hell Wade was biatching about the Mavericks when they were playing the Pacers in the playoffs. fark the Heat.

They went on and on about it for a couple days and ultimately decided to hide in the locker room til it was over? Can't say that I remember that.

I mean, LeBron has been through a few of these and he has consistently kept a straight face about it.

Sorry, don't remember.

Then they are little biatches too. I know that LeBron had been on the court in Boston before after Cavs losses. Did not know they chickened out, as well.

So, as a blanket statement, it seems NBA players need to man up.

Fair enough. My beef is that a friend of mine (played 2 guard for Carolina) was a projected 1st round pick who didn't get drafted. He ended up playing for 13 years in Europe and is now rich as shiat and retired, so its not a horrible ending. But screw the NBA. I can easily see why people are giving the NHL the bird, and rightfully so.

Watching this basketball game reminds me of how much of a joke basketball is. I'll give you an example. On one play, the player was able to shoot the ball over the outstretched hands of his defender. He was able to make this play because he was taller than his opponent. Absolutely disgusting. How can you watch this garbage?

I'm not going to listen to Simmons, but that's still no excuse for KG being a blatant asshole. Like I've said, anyone more concerned with getting a 3-second call on an injured player on the floor than the injured player on the floor is an asshole.

Was it a bad move to start David Lee and Kevin Garnett over Varejao in my fantasy league? Didn't seem like it but it might end up screwing me over.

I'm new at this, it's on ESPN, so I have no idea how this works yet. All I know is Varajao is on my bench (as is Chalmers). You're probably right, and if that's the case, this is going to be more work than I expected.

Yeah I did it one year...it's kinda dumb and it's stupid when someone beats you because their players played more in a week. Just didn't enjoy it.

Garnett is playing against the Miami defense. Varejao played against the Washington "defense". Not that that's all there is to it, but that sure didn't hurt Varejao's numbers.

2012-10-30 10:57:17 PM
I'm sorry...but the Nash, Bryant, MWP, Gasol, Howard lineup is just weird looking.

Sometime in 2008
Ok, let's create a poor 3pt shooting lineup with 2 guys that need to touch the ball on every possession, one guy that can pass, and a couple poor defenders with one safety net in the paint"

I've got it!

So what if we want to play Gasol at the 4!

Well, without Dirk I can't get too much into how the Mavs look this game. Just like once LeBron went out the first game didn't mean too much.

Don't like how little Nash has the ball in his hands for the Lakers.

2012-10-30 11:04:15 PM
Okay I was kinda interested in the Mavs, then I saw Carter come in and bomb that awful shot and I remembered they have no chance.

IAmRight: Don't like how little Nash has the ball in his hands for the Lakers.

Well, hell, he's got to get it to Bryant or Howard 2 steps past half court damn near every time down the court.

And, with Gasol out high, he's going to have the ball trying to get it in to Howard or be in the midst of some pick and roll deal

2012-10-30 11:06:07 PM

IAmRight: Don't like how little Nash has the ball in his hands for the Lakers.

I do. They need to play inside out. And Nash kicking it out to Metta right there is exactly the reason why. This team doesn't have many shooters, and I prefer Nash shooting those threes.

We do both dislike Boston teams a lot. I actually rooted for the Red Sox in 2004, then bandwagon dick fans and the subsequent glorification of everything Boston quickly made me regret that.

Anyway, Rondo talks way too much trash about people to the media and takes cheap shots like that after games are over...then whines that he's not respected enough.

Also, I just realized Ibaka and Gasol just played nearly as many games as LeBron and Durant...but didn't get a damn thing for it. (Well, I guess silver is something...just not quite worth pointing out..."yeah, he played all summer and got...one silver medal.")

Second case in point. You're full of shiat, only Boston celebrities are gingers. Everybody else is hispanic or Jewish.

Yeah. That is something that hasn't been discussed. Injuries have been a topic but Howard on the bench with foul trouble has been over looked. He gets stat treatment though so it probably won't be a huge issue.

Also, everyone hates the Yankees. It's cliche. So fake-ass "I just don't like the Yankees" fans adopted the Red Sox. Root for a team because you like them, not because you don't like their enemy.

As long as they make the playoffs, Dallas will care. Honestly even if they sucked, they've built enough basketball love in DFW that people would care if they sucked as long as they drafted good players in that situation. I was finally able to buy and download it today (thanks for pushing DD back a month 2k, ya jackasses) and I play a quick game with the Nets just to get my feet wet a little. The opening for the Nets is this ridiculous, sepia-tone, slow motion thing with Roy Ayers "We Live in Brooklyn" bumping in the back and I'm like "oooookay" I get that Jay-Z is involved but that was over the top. Then they switch to the Nets alt logo (the one with the basketball that has "Brooklyn Nets" lined around") and Jay-Z's face is the middle of it like it's a quarter and I lost my shiat for 3 minutes I was laughing so hard. It's still fun though and I got it for $23.

His influence is biggest in the music selection. IIRC, like half of the beats are either his or Kanye's but you could always turn the music down or off or focus on the other songs. I'm still getting used to the new control scheme (the right stick controls dibbling and shooting with the left trigger and right stick) but it's good and I feel like I have more control of the dribble actions. Thank you very much dude. BTW, good luck cleaning up after Sandy, this west coast Texan is sending you guys nothing but love (rare I know).

/BK is cool just based on my love of hip hop though. Biggie, ODB, and Mos Def!

Did the Lakers put 16 stars around the center court logo to represent their 16 titles? Very Euro soccer of them.

Now That's What I Call a Taco!: Prediction: Mike Brown will not make it through this season.

/but it will mostly be the bench's fault

I'd be shocked if he made it to Christmas, given how shiatty the Lakers look.

I think it represents how many free throws Howard is going to make this year.

No problem.

The city gonna be doing a bit of cleaning up over the next couple of weeks but my neighborhood was relatively unscathed, utilities were steady and in the worst of it, the lights flickered a bit for me. It's not like Breezy Point on the Rockaways. 100 houses burned down out there, I'm lucky

LOL, Dallas beat the Lakers handily without Dirk and Kaman. HAHAHAH! Suck it LA.

As much as I like Nash I just can't bring myself to root for the Lakers. Oh yeah & Kobe sucks.

Damn. I really had no idea that this hurricane would be so horrible. Hoping for a quick recovery.

The Lakers have a $99 million payroll - $17 million more than the Heat, the second most expensive team in the NBA.

I find it funny that ESPN is playing poker right now. They fully understand how much Inside the NBA destroys them in content and ratings.

The nba season opener is like Christmas Day for a Jehovah's Witness, to me.

I enjoy playing basketball, but I cannot watch a sport that takes 10- 15 real time minutes to play the last 45 seconds on the clock.

Mike Brown is an awful head coach for the Lakers.

Too many words in that sentence.

I didn't see the late game, but I'm not surprised that Howard had the lowest +/- on his team.

Why are you hung up on the clock? If you like a sport, you'll enjoy the last 10-15 minutes of a hotly contested game. Doesn't really matter if it took longer than the clock says. Does it bother you that an NFL game takes 3 hours to play an hour on the clock?

He's one of the people responsible for the time changes in the NCAA, where the clock doesn't stop on first downs near the end of the game. I HATE EXCITING FINISHES THAT ELONGATING THE LAST COUPLE MINUTES ALLOWS! GIVE ME MY FAST ENDINGS WITH NO EXCITEMENT!

/wow, congrats Mavs! Didn't expect that one!

Not really... it is "virtually live" (like a 5-10 minute tape delay) of the WSOP final table going on Tuesday night... they have done that the past 3-4 years, "hold" the final table of the WSOP until Oct/Nov to show it "live" instead of on 3 month tape delay.

Celtics defense looks un-Celtics-like. It is only one game they will get better, it is a tough draw to get the Heat in the first game. Barbosa looked good though.

I knew that comment was coming, and it's a good question. I don't really have a good answer, it just bugs me. If they were allowed one timeout a half I'd probably watch more.

As for the NFL, I honestly I don't watch a lot other, than highlights. I prefer the cfl with its 20 second play clock and its receivers who run an 11.5 40.

I would love to see the nfl go to a 30 second play clock, but it will never happen.

I have to somewhat agree, I think the NFL would be more exciting and have "quicker" (and not as forgone conclusion at end of the game) games (although considering commercial time they want, I am not sure they are looking for "quicker" games as much as they claim) if they went to AFL timing rules:
* Game clock doesn't stop on out of bounds plays or incomplete passes until last 2 minutes of each half. (this includes the clock running during the extra point)... actually in Arenaball it is the last minute, but, the "2 minute warning" in the AFL is at 1 minute, so, I'd make it last 2 minutes in NFL.
* In last two minutes of each half, team on offense with the lead must gain positive yardage on a play, otherwise the clock stops (ie, no kneeldowns).
