"Over the last couple of months, you have appeared throughout the country, Governor, on behalf of Mitt Romney," Doocy remarked to Christie. "[W]e hear that perhaps Mr. Romney may do some storm-related events. Is there any possibility that Gov. Romney may go to New Jersey to tour some of the damage with you?"

"I have no idea, nor am I the least bit concerned or interested," Christie replied, immediately shutting down the idea. "I've got a job to do here in New Jersey that's much bigger than presidential politics and I could [sic] care less about any of that stuff."

"I have a job to do," he added. "I've got 2.4 million people out of power, I've got devastation on the shore, I've got floods in the northern part of my state. If you think right now I give a damn about presidential politics then you don't know me."

I never thought I'd say this, but... Attaboy.

Good for you, Chris Christie. Your heart is in the right place - and I'm glad to see you also found your balls for long enough to tell monumental douchebag over at Fox News to knock off that bullshiat. And tacitly tell the Romney campaign not to bother you with a farking photo-op.

We'll see what happens when Paul Ryan forces his way past a police barricade to stage bailing water out of a dry building, though.

How until he gets drummed out of the party for ignoring the GOP rule that the black president cannot ever do anything worth more than condemnation?

Benevolent Misanthrope: Your heart is in the right place

I feel the same way about our bombastic, Tea Party-backed governor up here. I don't like a good number of his policies, but he seems to genuinely care about doing what's best for Maine.

I imagine a lot of politicians are the same way. They just have to do the dance to get elected.

I find myself at odds with him on a lot of his positions as well. There is one thing that I will never, ever do, and that is lose my respect for him. LePage went from living on the streets in Lewiston speaking no English to becoming one of the most successful businessman in our state.

This is a class move.

I wonder if any part of him regrets demanding at the RNC that the president make the hard calls to tell people that the government can't afford to swoop in and save the day for them anymore.

While I'm 100% sure that he will run in 2016--I'm pretty sure this will be his example for Bipartisanship, because he isn't going to be able to cite a mass of examples from being governor or NJ. And this is bipartisanship with a president who is very unpopular with his party. It's a good talking point.

Federal assistance money and FEMA are bad things - until you need them. Still, good on CC for rising above politics.

My God, you're all so naive. If we can attribute the success of the federal response for Sandy to Obama it proves that he was also solely responsible for Benghazi attack. Come on, it's not difficult.

Huh. I guess politics DOES stop at the waters edge after all. Sounds like Christie was happy with the job that the feds (and Obama by extension) did during some pretty tough days. No shame in admitting that.

I don't think they give two shiats about what's right. This isn't politicos caring, this is politicos understanding that it is bread and circuses that keep the serfs in line, and that the bread and circuses just got washed down the dilapidated public sewer line. These guys aren't trying to save people, they are trying to get American Idol and Honey Boo Boo back on the stupid box so the people don't realize how truly farked they really are.

This isn't a hurricane, per se. It's the Great Soma Shortage of '12.

Ha ha ha had to read that twice before the standard Republican BS sunk in. In the context of this story 'Americans coming together' isn't mobilizing to save Jersey, it's the kind of centralized federal initiative Romney campaigns vehemently against. You missed only the Romney emotismirk.
