(Daily Breeze)   PETA says there's nothing fishy about a memorial sign they want up in Irvine commemorating the hundreds of fish killed in a traffic accident while on the way to market   (dailybreeze.com) divider line 94

Didn't see the first shark for about a half-hour. Tiger. 13-footer. You know how you know that in the water, Chief? You can tell by lookin' from the dorsal to the tail.

I like it when a celebrity publicly professes their allegiance to PETA. It demonstrates their utter stupidity more eloquently than anything else and I know that I can ignore their opinions on everything else including acting!

If it's a billboard with a half naked Christina Applegate and Alicia Silverstone, I'll help.

The true tragedy here is that they were struck down in their prime.....before they could become FOOD sold at the market!!! Vegans: My food shiats on your food!

I blame the fish. I bet not a single one of them had their seatbelts on.

As pro animal rights as I am (as in, raise and kill them as humanely as possible), PETA are a bunch of dumbass attention whores who do more to hurt their cause than help it

"Research tells us that fish use tools, tell time, sing, and have impressive long-term memories and complex social structures,

Studies have shown plants are sensitive to light, noise, and physical stimulation. They eat, breathe and reproduce.
Oh, but since they're not as cute as animals and can't communicate it's okay to yank them out of the earth and cut, slice, puree, sautee, boil and roast these living things?

Here is a sign they can put up:

I know people at the City and Irvine Company - this has been good for a laugh.

Does PETA think the fish sea-kittens (roll eyes) are dispatched humanely?

I'd rather suffocate to death that be gutted while still alive.

Arrested development is everyone's right.
I know some of these animal-rights folks and I don't have the heart to tell them they're stuck somewhere near 13 years old in emotional age. Everybody needs a hobby, I suppose. Beyond that, being an animal advocate shows a kindness that's pretty lacking in the capitalist machinery at large.
Arrested development aside, at least they aren't hurting anyone, unlike say, the religious zealots.

2012-10-30 02:05:48 PM
Because Irvine has money for memorials to fish.

If these farkers are really and truly dedicated to the cause they will do like the military and post someone at this site 24x7 365 days a year just like the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

2012-10-30 02:07:57 PM
It would be really interesting if there was a follow-up story to this, maybe we could how much they raised and the quality of said memorial. I'd be willing to bet it's a tiny sign cemented into the side walk, and the rest of the money going.....somewhere.

We need a term for when someone brings religion into a non religious discussion

Is it possible that PETA is a cleverly disguised effort by the meat industry to make animal rights activists look like goofballs?

This is now a food thread.

Curry House, on Walnut and Culver, used to be the best Japanese curry around. Unfortunately for them they have been firmly supplanted by CoCo Ichibanya.

Dumpling Curry FOR THE WIN.

Any memorial they put up should not be as big as what they would build for a human being. They should scale it down a little.

In fact, a near-religious zeal is a central characteristic of a serious animal rights advocate.
If you knew one, you'd know this.

2012-10-30 02:25:07 PM
What would be delicious ironic is if PETA had a huge get-together at the beach or in the woods or somewhere, and everyone attending was devoured by the very creatures they adore so much.

machoprogrammer: As pro animal rights as I am (as in, raise and kill them as humanely as possible), PETA are a bunch of dumbass attention whores who do more to hurt their cause than help it

Agreed. Also, I hate that because of groups like PETA, as soon as you mention being pro-animal rights people assume you're some extremist wacko. Same with environmental activists like the ELF.

ALF/ELF are extremist wackos. PETA types are just usually looking for attention.

I have decided that just being interested in PETA is evidence that one is bat-shiat crazy and need close supervision.

2012-10-30 02:55:06 PM
Almost lends credence to the hypothesis that this one vegan I know online has about PETA: That it was secretly created by the meat industry to discredit the animal rights movement as a whole.

People everywhere like to personify animals. If we think it or feel it, then every other animal must as well, so therefore we must treat them like people.

Welcome to first world issues.

So, there's no word from a PETA spokesperson or any mention this person is affiliated with the organization.
