I always thought Bill Clinton should have been appointed President for Life.

I never really liked his politics, his morals, values, economics or even his family.

But, the man was LUCKY.

Against his superior karma, terrorists, recessions, plagues, etc. had no chance.

Right, and let's overlook the loosening of various regulations that turned around and bit us in the ass years later, beit the Dept. of Mineral and Mining Services, where you had lobbyists literally sleeping with Department members, or the de-toothed SEC and FTC, which sowed the seeds for Wall Street shiatting the bed at the decade's close. All as a result of cooperating with Republicans in the House and Senate, but at least it was worth it since they treated him fairly and civilly during his time in office.

Glass-Steagall Act. So hard to forgive him for that.

2012-10-30 08:12:12 AM
Clinton - came in during internet boom. Luck. Helped repeal Glass-Steagall. Terrible. I am a Democrat and I like Bill as a person and like a lot of his political views but this looking back on the 90s as a golden age in America that came about because of him specificallly just seems silly to me. I'd take him over Romney, Bush 1 or 2 or Reagan any day for sure but he's had his turn. I think Obama is (with the major exception of civil liberties) doing as good a job as is possible in these circumstances.

It's funny how everyone goes on about the "internet bubble" but the growth of the technology sector during that bubble was huge and established the US as the market leader for almost twenty years. The bubble was the speculation in the stock market which was largely independent of the private investment that fueled the growth of start-ups that actually had a business model.

I do love the retroactive Republican respect for Clinton.

They attacked him, his wife, and occasionally his daughter. They investigated him until they found something, censured him, and tried to hold America hostage. They replaced him with an incompetent opposite, who tried to blame him for everything from 9/11 to economic troubles.

But now they claim to like and respect him, that he was a different kind of Democrat than Obama.

How? By being whiter?

Remember kids, if you let people do things that are extremely risky, its your fault when those risks explode.
In no way, whatsoever, is it their fault for doing the risky stuff in the first place.

Clinton killed a bill that was mostly dead anyhow. Even if it -was- mostly dead, he has to take responsibility for putting the final nail in.
But Bush has to take responsibility for the extremely lax banking regulation authority in place during his terms.

Final Responsibility, though, lies with the banks and their excessive, overwhelming greed and risk taking with money that wasn't theirs in the first place. It's impossible to forgive a 30:1 leverage.

You can't make Hilary a helpless cuckold in one instance, and cast her as a stone-cold battle axe in the other. I remember very well the routine misogyny cast Hilary Clinton's way during her years as First Lady. Don't think for a second one, single person on the right actually cared if she was mistreated by her husband, with all the epithets used on her still today.

Sexual assault and/or harrassment? Possibly, but considering Republicans obfuscated so many facts of Gennifer Flowers', Paula Jones' and others' testimony for cynical, political gain, none of these women got to have their say or get whatever due compensation to which they were entitled, because YOU DIDN'T F*CKING IMPEACH HIM FOR ANY OF THAT, YOU WENT AFTER THE INTERN WHO CONSENTED TO A SEX ACT, YOU DINGBATS.

Mr_Fabulous: Team Clinton had eight long years in office to get something done on healthcare reform. It was supposed to be their signature issue. How'd that shiat work out, guys?

Clintonite Dems can blow me. There is important work to do right now; stop pining for the good ol' days of illicit blowjobs, hideous pantsuits and dodging Bosnian sniper fire with Chelsea.

We had a good economy, some, clearly not all were due to Clinton's initiatives. There was no 9/11 under his watch which made him immediately destroy two countries and shred the Constitution for his VP's business partners to make a shiatton of money. There were no illegal prisons opened.

So yeah, when we talk about the Clinton years I realize we're grading on a curve because we're comparing them to the 8 years of HELL that followed him. And yes, Clinton did inherit a pretty nice economy and it's interesting that they won't give him an ounce of credit for that but Obama inherits the worst shiatstorm since the Great Depression and when it's even mentioned, the republicans are like, "why are you talking about old shiat?".

Despite the fact that not only did Obama have to face republican obstructionism that bordered on treason, he's actually managed to turn it around. Goddamned I'm sick of this shiat. This election needs to just happen already and get this shiat over with, one way or the other.

Dr.Mxyzptlk.: EyeballKid: Dr.Mxyzptlk.: Nobody is going to jail or impeached for a blow job !
Clinton lied to a grand jury.
It's the law thing we hang our Constitution on and other cool stuff too!

Also there was by Bill's own admission a foreign government ( three guesses ) knew about Monica and could use this information to pressure the President. IT WAS BOB DOLE'S TURN, GODDAMMIT!!!!

Sorry, I wanted to translate your bullshiat to truth.

. Maybe next time you can add the all in one "Derp" as substitute for facts or wit.

I was going throw in NAFTA in there too but why stir the waters.

Don't forget that brilliant act of legislation that gave us Clear Channel! Hate that shiat.

> Waiting like a Diplomat in Libya.

Oh, you're an idiot. Nevermind.

DiamondDave: The GOP has declared a "War on Women" by wanting them to pay for their own birth control.

Bill Clinton raped three women and cheated on his wife with two public affairs, but hey, it's those Republicans you have to watch out for.

Sounds like he was doing God's work

Matrix Flavored Wasabi: IIRC it passed with a veto-proof majority, so there wasn't much he could do about it.

Right you are. Did not know that.

2wolves: Remember when the worst thing in the world was Mr. Clinton getting some illicit head?

Only cost us $140m to find that out.

I beleive it was one of Al Franken's book that talked about how the GOP settled on going after Clinton's zippergate scandal rather than White Water. This, when the Clintons threatened to expose the Bush mining operations in Africa that involved bulldozing over peasant mining camps (including the people) in Africa. It must be hard for the political class to avoid temptations of these sorts when common people cease to impress them.

Did Alex Jones tell you that one ?

GameSprocket: Spad31: No. Liar. Proven.

Holy crap! Is that the criteria now? We are never going to have a government that way.

Maybe he's suggesting that we should only elect people who are good enough at lying that they can get away with it?

Aww, now I can't tell my kids that they can be President some day. Some day they will figure out that running to the middle of the room and saying "I wasn't doing anything" as soon as I walk in is not a good way to get away with anything.

Sounds like a bargain to what Fartbongo is doing to us. I'm in!

Yeah! Between ensuring everyone has access to health care, getting us out of meaningless wars, killing terrorists, and keeping the economy from completely collapsing, that shifty Kenyan is really messing things up!

Sure is. My 27 year old son doesn't have healthcare, a job, a car, can't get the welfare because he doesn't have any kids out of wedlock. Yeah, I think that shiftless malmute is doing a fine job. Vote Hart.

Is there anyone who has run for any state or national office and gotten so far as being nominated by one of the major parties who isn't a liar?

I had no idea Clinton was convicted of raping anyone. That's news to me, where is that documented? I do know that it's well documented that Bush Jr. is responsible for a few hundred thousand deaths in Iraq, American and otherwise for no real reason and committed war crimes to make his buddies money. And if you really want to do the political party thing, Reagan in league with terrorists, that was pretty farked up. No one ever seems to remember that because that's old shiat.
