Yes, it is. I would want my carcass providing nutrients for a plant I like, maybe a giant redwood or something, instead of making some rich dude's lawn a little greener.

I'd rather mine be used in either a medical school or as part of a crash test dummy improvement thing. Didn't the news break a while back that cadavers were used in some car crash tests and by NASA for some of their testing? Strap me in and light it up.

regardless of our personal perspectives on where or what is done with our earth shells when we are done with them, this shiat is disrespectful to Mr.Hemsley. if he had plans and wishes for this time they should not be cockblocked by some mofo throwing a spanner in the works.

you folks don't know me or give a damn what my opinion or wishes are re: my dead body so i'm not going to pretend otherwise. good day.

His estate is reportedly valued at $50,000.

This man was the star the Jeffersons for ten years, Amen for four years and according to Wiki he never married and never had kids. Yet his estate is only worth $50,000?! WTF?!

Why not sell your remains to a necrophile for, say $80,000 ($ received during life), who then gets to bounce your ass after death, but not too far past death, cause he wants ya warm (he takes the risk on condition of the corpse).

I'm sure that this has likely been done already, somewhere.

All those people fighting over a measly $50,000? And it's going to be a lot less after the lawyers are done? Shait ain't worth it.

It's probably not the $50K they want; it's control of his estate, which would include his likeness, copyrights, residuals from the TV shows, etc.

When Michael Jackson died, his estate was deeply in debt, but within six months the lawyers and accounts had turned it around, paid off the debt and it was worth something like $22 million. How, well the estate had a huge income, but Michael (while he was alive) spent more than he made, which kept in in perpetual debt. Once he was dead, the money stopped being wasted.

Yeah, but Michael Jackson would waste more money in a day than most of us - including Hemsley - would earn in a year. And the most famous and most money that Hemsley has ever been or earned was when he starred on a television show that was canceled over twenty-five years ago. When I heard that Hemsley's had died, I know I wasn't the only one who thought 'damn, I didn't know he was still alive'. So I seriously doubt that Hemsley's likeness, copyrights, residuals from the TV shows, etc. is going to be worth much above miniscule, at best.

The difference is that Michael Jackson had some semblance of selling power. His estate did and still does have potential.

Sherman Helmsley's assets are well past their prime. There's no huge calling for "Amen" that they'll see a severe financial loss if they don't put it out in a DVD Box Set.

...which is what makes this sad. There's no real legacy to be fought over yet still they show up for the battle.

My will dictates my estate be divided based on the results of via mixed-martial arts cage matches by my heirs.

You know, people said the same thing when James Dean and Marilyn Monroe died. Not to say that Helmsley will ever be that famous, but what his estate might end up being worth could end up being a surprise.

Sherman Hemsley shared my birthday. I happen to have one of the funkiest birthdays, based on who shares it with me: Rick James, Langston Hughes, Big Boi from Outkast, Borris Yeltsin, and Pauly Shore.

I was absolutely floored when I found out that he was a huge prog-rock fan.

Also, at one point he had an LSD lab in his basement.
