Vegan Meat Popsicle: Mr. Chainsaw: We're supposed to get an inch or two of rain at most

Problem is these winds are pretty bad. An inch or two of rain softens the ground up and those winds then just rock trees back and forth out of the ground.

Yeah, but I was talking more about the flooding compared to Irene.

Mrtraveler01: Hand Banana: Vegan Meat Popsicle: SlothB77: Manhattan just went dark

Cantore is on TWC basically saying it's flooded out like they've never seen. 3 feet of water IN the NYSE and 6 feet around it. Sounds like NYC is in some major shiat.

They just reported that those stories were false.

Yeah, I'm watching CNBC only because they have coverage from WNBC from time to time. I'm also watching a few streams from the NYC and Philly TV stations.

CNN was worthless for a while.

MrSteve007: skinink: Con Ed purposely shut off power to parts of Lower Manhattan.

Yep, my (idiot) buddy was walking around Lower Manhattan, taking pictures of everything. His last tweet was "Just got a test from Con-Ed. They're shutting down the power and internet. Bye for now"

His photos Link

Taking a break from being a political asshole for a second. I encourage peeps to donate blood and a few bucks to the American Red Cross in the coming days. There's going to be a ton of our fellow citizens that are going to need a hand soon, and giving blood is always in fashion.

Here's the donation link American Red Cross

Somacandra: Upper Midwest representing. Power is on and fine here, but I did pass two godawful kidneystones this afternoon. Caught the bigger one and took it to the doc. Said he was impressed I managed to pass a large pencil eraser through my urethra. I almost passed out. Currently worshiping Vicodin.

Middle Midwest here... Most here still have power, but unverified reports indicate that the power outages already seem to be targeting the Amish communities here.

C'mon. Think of all the plastic patio chairs that got knocked over.

So far 4 dead in NJ and 2 dead in NYC.

Dunno about other areas.

You can just stop there.

KY - It was windy all day today but really clear in Louisville. Driving home I get 25 miles out of town and it was perfect line of clouds. Overcast and blah all the way back to Lexington and even more wind.
My patio umbrella is on its side.

HOW WILL I GO ON!?

Delete those last three words and you'll have a perfectly accurate statement.

modestlivinglegend: Most of the power outages are because the power companies (like Manhattan) were ordered to shut off power as a "precaution". So instead of waiting for a tree to hit a line and shut people down you go ahead and ruin all their refrigerated food now? These "precautionary" closures are costing 25 percent of the country to shut down. This storm has already been downgraded - no longer a huricane. It is harsh in some places, but shutting off power early - that's a new one. Why?

It is because the lines underground are underwater but dont let that stop the derp...

It sounds like the majority of it - outside of Fulton/Bowling Green - was unintentional. And we have no outside lines, so trees are not a concerned. I think their power plant on 14th and FDR drive may have flooded... but no confirmation yet.

If there was flooding at 14th and Avenue C, they're definitely was flooding down there.

In Wallingford, PA just outside Philadelphia. No power since 6:15pm. We heard the transformer blow.

My in-laws still have power and a generator and if we still don't have power tomorow we will probably go over there for a shower and a hot meal.

Winds are scary right now, we live in a neighborhood full of old trees. The locusts are swaying, but the oaks all still seem steady.

Hope all you other farkers stay safe and dry.

Korzine: Eddie Adams from Torrance: A big ass tree just fell on ALL THREE of our cars.

Amazingly, the trunk landed right between my car and my wife's in the 5 foot gap between them. A large branch wiped out her passenger side door. My cars seem to have escaped anything other than some scratches and a few dents on top of the dents I got last month when I hit a deer.

/Orange County NY

Classic newbie mistake, never leave cars near trees. It's like building a trailer park in tornado alley. Magnets and all that.

Actually tornado alley is only there because that's where all the trailer parks are. Tornadoes can only form when in the vicinity of a poorly constructed aluminum and fiberglass box.

CapeFearCadaver: [Updated at 9:27 p.m.] Five people have been killed in the state of New York - including a man hit by a tree while inside his Queens home - due to Sandy, said Rich Azzopardi, a spokesman for Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Link

Damn. Stay safe everyone.

At around 8:30 pm tonight I heard screaming outside if my window. Went running to see if someone was in trouble.

Yeah it was some women walking in the street with like 5 young kids "playing" in the wind. They weren't hiding for cover. They were acting like this shiat is a joke.

So damn stupid.

As a car insurance claims call center flunky, may I ask that you all report your claims now? There's probably a 24-hour number you can call, and that way our call volume (and thus my sanity) won't take it in the pooper all day long tomorrow.

And stay safe. Smoke 'em if you got 'em.
