I didn't think you could make the weather political. I was wrong.

I still have power, but I forgot to buy snacks. Chips, nuts, ice cream, whatever. I have nothing to munch on while I await imminent destruction and despair and the death of everyone I ever loved.

Bit'O'Gristle: Ok, i just took a look at Google earth and saw the storm was pretty much over 3 states already. How is this "not made landfall" yet? Also, the wind reports I'm seeing are pretty tame.

C'mon. Think of all the plastic patio chairs that got knocked over.

The Green Manalishi: Work canceled tomorrow. Only thing open is the bar down the street. It's Miller Time.

I begged, pleaded and demanded, but they refused to close down work tomorrow. They didn't listen to any of my arguments, the news, anything, they were all just like 'But, the hurricane is on the east coast, and we're all here in Seattle'

Also, they threatened to lock me in my office again, but that happens a lot so it may be unrelated.

Bake some cookies. If the power goes off before you get them baked you can still just eat the dough.

My gin and tonic preparedness plan is working well enough. I hardly give a shiat that I'm sitting here in the dark with wet socks.

/Seriously, the wind reports im seeing in the darker areas of the storm are like 15-20 mph. Is this the "STORM OF THE CENTURY" that the press were jacking each other off on the news about? Meh.

I think they consider "landfall" when the eye hits land, not the outer, or even inner, bands. Not positive, though.

2012-10-29 08:31:17 PM
when it "landed here" there was nothing left. It all just stopped.

God's work is always in some mysterious way. People can speculate about Act(s) of God all day long and most speculation may sound just fine. If there is no God, big storm may be the effect of global warning, the prelude to the world's end. If there is God, Act of God is simply 'He who raised the wind gets the storm'. For some, a storm comes then goes, they clean up and move on but never ponder the cause and the effect. Even when those 'some' read the Katrina 4-letter code, they'd never heed the warning.

My power lines are buried, so I rarely lose power. But I've been watching flashes off in the distance as power lines come down. Parents lost power hours ago. They live about 7 miles away.

But, I've got two boxes of wine, some Cruzan ingle barrel estate rum and Community on July.

It's a good night.

Mine keeps going out tonight, and the storm passed our area last night.

I think it's trying to tell me to turn the TV and computer off and go read my book, or something.

Power is getting spotty. So afraid. Been feverishly downloading porn for the past hour, hoping to transfer it to the Ipad before all is lost. There's something hard on my crotch, but it's only the flashlight; need to keep it in tactile range. I'm hoping the porn roundup does not affect me - I don't want to get indian burn trying to switch the wrong thing on when the p fails.

Downloaded an app from the app store to keep me amused should the worst happen - as did, I'm sure, anyone in the metro corridor with the tech. Frickin zombieJobs is cackling and coughing up money from his grave tonight. The app store doesn't sell porn.

Idiots.

My preparedness plan of drinking gin and tonics while eating stale brownies is working quite well.

I hardly give a shiat about sitting here in the dark with wet socks... or the hairline crack that has developed in my living room ceiling.

Freedom For Southern Societies to Freely Unite is reporting that the Taxbongo Administration has deliberately knocked out power to these homes, and that in order to get power back, you have to vote Democrat. The tactics that this presidency will use to usurp power are absolutely disgusting.

We're feeling the effects in Ohio now. I predict hundreds of thousands without power in the Columbus Metro Area by Wednesday.

AdolfOliverPanties: Looks like the Gawker sites are all down. No io9, Gawker, Deadspin, Jezebel etc...

So, Sandy isn't all bad?

The rest suck, but I actually rather like io9. Their True Blood and American Horror Story episode recaps/reviews are hilarious, and overall they have turned me on to some cool books and movies I may have otherwise missed. Not to mention they have Hugo award winning authors as regular contributors, so they really know and love the genre. Gawker us generally bad, and they just keep making their commenting system even more terrible and incomprehensible, buy io9 is the lone bright spot.

Uh... hasn't made landfall yet? Then WTF am I looking at here

Also that storm moving in from the west seems to be pushing the thing downward and creating a tunnel in the middle of the US. Isn't that how tornados make babbys?

While you've got no TV, read yourself some The Road by Cormac McCarthy.

That ought to get you in the right frame of mind for facing tomorrow morning.

Funk Brothers: We're feeling the effects in Ohio now. I predict hundreds of thousands without power in the Columbus Metro Area by Wednesday.

I work at the Dayton Airport. We got out early with all the cancelled flights. The wind was/is nuts. They parked a prop driven aircraft by the bar and I was watching the wind push the props, it was also shaking the shiat out of that plane.

batteries charged, radios charged, UPS charged, kerosene heater ready. lights and lamps all good too. off work for a few days, it just worked out that way.

Still have power in Malden, MA. But all of a sudden the rain has picked up, and the wind has yet to die down.

And if I lose power all I care about is I have a phone. Being a gadget geek I have four phones charging at the moment, my current one and my three previous upgrades.

Unless you have a really mondo big UPS, it won't power even that light load very long.
