This isn't that powerful of a storm but where they are on the NE side is a pretty high risk zone. If you got in that water the rip tide would take you 100 miles out in no time flat.

Hurricane parties are a thing. But usually you batten down with good friends, beer, and food.

Odds are you will be fine; and if you are insured renters instead of homeowners you might as well pick a friend without many trees on their lot and ride it out there playing Apples to Apples by candlelight.

Oh, and if you go watch the storm surge, leave the beach about 6 hours before landfall.

Put other people's lives at risk while you're at it. They'll get paid if they survive, which, if they don't, you'll have been personally responsible for.

But hey, at least you get to have fun.

What I want to know is this - when junior gets wiped off the boardwalk by the waves and his battered
and broken body is found in the surf, who do the parents think they'll have the right to sue? Because
you KNOW it will happen if one of these kids gets killed or hurt because idiot parents thought it would
be cool to take them to see a real live hurricane.

Seacop: STAY OFF THE GODDAMN BEACH.

To all you farktards who don't know where these people are:

They're not on the beach, they're on top of the seawall. People have been observing storms (much larger than Sandy) from that seawall for years. The seawall is about 20+ ft above normal sea levels and well designed to direct the wave energy out to sea. Nothing they're doing is unsafe.

/been there, surfed DO

"As of 4:30 p.m., Sullivan said they've had "some calls" about people swimming in the ocean. Police aren't "bothering" the many individuals walking on the sidewalks, but are using their public address systems to get people out of the water because the beaches are closed, he said."

If you're dumb enough to surf, kayak, windsurf, swim, or hang around a seawall in a storm like this one, then when you get swept out to sea, you should be allowed to die, no questions asked, no rescue attempt made, and your family doesn't get to sue. End of story.
