Reminds me of the movie Independence Day, with people partying on the rooftops just before the aliens start blasting buildings.

Ya gotta love their attitude, though.

This isn't that powerful of a storm but where they are on the NE side is a pretty high risk zone. If you got in that water the rip tide would take you 100 miles out in no time flat.

I really do feel sorry for the kids who are being taught that this is a good idea. They may not live long enough to learn that their parents are idiots.

I live on the north sea, where we have wicked winter storms. We have a summer house on an island, and my wife's uncle went out to look at the weather during a storm. He was never seen again. His body was never found. The ocean can do crazy things.

Quit melaninizing the dumb people, mans.

Let the dumb people go, regardless of the color of their shirts, seriously.

P.S. There should be more red shirts.

Jeeze. First you complain that the parents are over protective and the kids are growing up to be spoiled and helpless and now you're complaining that they're not. Make up your mind.

Seems reasonable to me.

They are about to spend 12, 18, 36, 72, 96 hours in pretty shiatty conditions, may as well party it up in the hours before it hits and observe nature at her finest.

Risk assessment is lacking in most people, parent or otherwise.

Hurricane parties are a thing. But usually you batten down with good friends, beer, and food.

Odds are you will be fine; and if you are insured renters instead of homeowners you might as well pick a friend without many trees on their lot and ride it out there playing Apples to Apples by candlelight.

Oh, and if you go watch the storm surge, leave the beach about 6 hours before landfall.

I dunno. It may be a Cat 1, but with hurricanes the wind speed isn't even half the story.
