How much you want to bet that this bus will just so happen to spend all of its time in affected swing states?

Of course, if that's the case, then why is Mitt picking winners and losers like that?

Is he handing out plastic garbage bags?

2012-10-29 01:49:54 PM
It's a good idea as long as it's not a bullshiat photo op or empty promise like Paul Ryan at the soup kitchen. I'll believe it when the supplies arrive to their destination.

2012-10-29 01:50:09 PM
Is that campaign buss going to continue to do that to every disaster area even after he eliminates FEMA?

2012-10-29 01:52:33 PM
I wonder if Paul Ryan will show up to re-hand out supplies that have already been handed out.

2012-10-29 01:57:31 PM
I imagine that will work real well on debris blocked, flooded roads

/bus must be a 10x10

Depends on whether they have to send out the short bus or not. (Bwaw, bwaw, bwaw ....)

I'm assuming this is something Romney has done in the past. I'd hate to think he is trying to capitalize on a situation for shady reasoning.

Rmoney should leave this to the real relief agencies and FEMA, who are organized for this sort of thing. Perhaps they will have the good sense to contact the RED CROSS and deliver what they collect to their centralized distribution point, but I doubt it.

The Red Cross has already explained how this sort of shiat hampers relief efforts.

While it may sound nice in some sort of romantic Dickensian feeding pickpockets by showing up with a tin of soup and some crusts of bread sort of way. it's actually totally farking useless and annoying.

So under Romney's idea of government we would have 50+ different disaster government relief organization with none of them in charge and random people who have no idea what they are doing helping out and most likely making things worse?

That is their idea of a "efficient" government.

With Romney's cash wouldn't sending a fleet of tractor trailers loaded with supplies to the places that need it be more effective than one bus not designed to transport cargo? That is unless the main purpose is a photo-op rather than a sincere relief effort.

There is no response R/R could have had that the left wouldn't criticize. Campaigning is out, and doing nothing would make him look ineffectual. Choosing to help, even as a symbolic gesture that encourages others to give, is a good thing. People who are trying to characterize it otherwise are partisan hacks.

Not shilling for anyone. I simply think that anyone who wants to help should be given the chance and at least be respected for wanting to.

it's a damn shame.

so when Mitt says "Make China play fair" he actually means, make China less attractive to American companies who choose to put profits above all else. but that will never happen China will always be attractive to the American Capitalist, regardless of what happens over there, as patriotism often succumbs to greed and profit.

What would Jesus say about Romney's exploitation of Hurricane Sandy for political profit by publicizing the use of his campaign bus to deliver food and water?

1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
2 ¶ Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
4 that thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

Matthew 6:1-4

It's stupid because this isn't about helping people, it's about creating the illusion that he's doing something by having his campaign bus appear in swing states handing out 'supplies'. It's a campaign bus. Think about it. Is it designed to carry freight? How many pallets of MRE's and drinking water do you think he can pack onto that thing? None would be the answer. No. We should fight fire with fire. Kerry played it nice and he lost. Dukakis played it nice and he lost BIG! Bill Clinton DIDN'T play it nice and he won (twice). You dissed Bill and he'd chase you down the street with a board with a nail sticking out of it.

Conservatives love picking on people who won't fight back.

There's a mighty fine line between fighting fire with fire and outright wishing death upon your opponents. Provide notarized copies of his tax returns going back to 2006. Five years is that too much to ask?

Most honest candidates for the POTUS are less chintzy. It makes Romney's fake charity here all the more cynical. What is this something like 0.0001% of his wealth. Recall the Widow's two mites: Luke 21:4 says... the Widow "out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had."

Dude, you're hitting near Free Republic levels of paranoia. Yes, we all know Romney's ideas are awful. He would make it harder to get health care, harder to get an education, there would be less access to women's health care, less environmental protection, gay rights would come to a halt, etc etc etc.

But seriously, he's not trying it just to persecute you. He's not going to pick up the phone and have us all sacked in the night and shipped to FEMA detainment camps. Hell, he probably wouldn't even be able to overturn Roe v. Wade any more than Bush did. Sensata is a Bain Capital subsidiary. They employ 200 or so middle class people in Freeport, IL manufacturing some type of sensor found in car engines (I'm not a gearhead). The company is healthy and profitable. But Bain is outsourcing the entire operation to China, simply to increase the profit margin.

And Bain is forcing the Illinois employees to train their Chinese replacements.

Yes, yes, I know Romney is no longer the managing director of Bain. But he's still a major shareholder, and he's currently running as a "tough-on-China" president. If he walked into the Bain board room and told them to stop the deal - one would assume they would listen. But Romney hasn't answered any of the Sensata employees' calls, emails, or letters - and no national press outside of Huffington Post have picked up the story. Needless to say, Romney isn't likely to get a single vote in Freeport, IL. It's a small town whose economy doesn't want to see a successful company send 200 well-paying jobs to China.

Long story short - Sensata is a perfect example of what Bain Capital is, and what we can expect from Mitt Romney's business and economic policies.

LectertheChef: oldernell: Rmoney should leave this to the real relief agencies and FEMA, who are organized for this sort of thing. Perhaps they will have the good sense to contact the RED CROSS and deliver what they collect to their centralized distribution point, but I doubt it.

Red Cross won't accept the stuff. It's actually easier and more efficient for them to take monetary donations, and buy in bulk from local suppliers.

This right here.

Unfortunately, due to logistical constraints the Red Cross does not accept or solicit individual donations or collections of items. Items such as collected food, used clothing and shoes must be sorted, cleaned, repackaged and transported which impedes the valuable resources of money, time, and personnel.

So if I lived in a state affected by a natural disaster wouldn't I want my local and state authorities empowered with the ability to send aid where it was needed most, by those who actually know the area? Also with the backing of the Federal Government providing aid as requested by the state to the area's that needed it most?

The Fark Progressive Brigade needs to get their heads out of their collective arseholes and maybe study up on how FEMA actually works and the bureaucratic nightmare that it puts into place. While FEMA may have improved since Katrina, State and Local officials should be the one's coordinating relief efforts. Federal assistance should consist of requested resources sent to where it is needed most as dictated by those who are aware of the actual situation.

Go ahead, I'll wait.

ciberido: Kit Fister: eraser8: Brick-House: Not to be out done, Obama sending his bus out to collect the dead bodies.

Every vote counts after all.

Why are you so goddamned stupid?

Because Obama is from Chicago, and Chicago elections are known to be fraught with dead voters. he's also very popular with the dead demographic.

If by "known to be" you mean "a myth Conservatives like to propagate," then sure.

Rich man making money to build his tower higher above the fray at more pay and less consequence-ay?

Do you think the mice scrabbling at the bottom care too much what happens at the top of the tower?
