They will find the streets are guarded by the United States Marines."

Like guarding a tomb? What threat are they really expecting there?

I see we've temporarily changed corpses that we should pay attention to.

Ok, when the Zombie Apocalypse comes, you'll want those guards at that tomb, you'll need those guards at that tomb. To have trained military specialists reanimate and come back from the grave with those skills will prove the deciding factor in the Afterworld. Without those marines there ready to pop one in the skulls of the zombie troops, we could lose the war before it even started!

The threat that someone might forget why it is important.

That's probably it. That is what I would have gone with if I was the guy who came up with the idea of posting a guard there for eternity and was trying to sell it to the brass.

Either that or tell people the Holy Grail is inside.

Plus, people are hoping that they have something catastrophic happen to them so that Obama can get clubbed over it.

I never thought that the Tomb of the Unknowns was something that would get under anyone's skin, but FARK continues to raise the bar. Well, more like lower it. Really, really lower.

That's neat and inspiring and whatever, but I have to wonder what they plan to do when 70mph winds start making it hard for them to stand upright or they have to dodge limbs and trash and other projectiles. It's not like all they have to worry about is getting a little wet and cold.

I like how you're just utterly refusing to acknowledge anything besides the world you've created for yourself. You're responding to me but somehow it completely fails to address anything I type. It's pretty funny, like watching animals in a zoo. They want to eat you, but they don't have a clue how and this damn glass is in the way.

The guards will not be marching in front of the Tomb during the storm's peak. They'll be nearby, under cover and dressed for rough weather. Link

Why does the tomb need to be guarded, you might ask?

Because people used to have picnics and gatherings on the grave as the area had great views of the city, and the military thought this was disrespectful.

A perfectly good reason. But I don't think it's applicable during a farking hurricane.

Because if it's patriotic you can have it both ways.

I think you're confusing Northnuck pussies for the "entire East Coast".

You'd think they could spare one guy to guard the unknown tomb of Jimmy Hoffa.

It's nice that they're out there making the gesture, but really. They're out in 40-something-degree weather, in a bit of rain with some wind gusts. It's a Cat 1. People in Forida play in the surf in Cat. 1s. Commercial work in worse weather than this routinely, and think nothing of it. Heck, U.S. Navy sailors work in weather like this routinely and think nothing of it.

Photo or no I am glad they are doing it and hope they stay safe if not warm and dry.
But knowing you stood though a hurricane to do your duty and to honor the memory of fallen heroes will be one of the good memorys

2012-10-29 06:28:14 PM
Also, they work 1-hour shifts. It's not super-comfortable out there, but compared to their REAL jobs (they're infantrymen), it's not exactly hazardous duty.
