(Patch)   Police say they only tase people when absolutely necessary. So this three-year-old must have done something horrible   (imperialbeach.patch.com) divider line 13

Litterbox: JohnCarter: Don't these have an "effective" range of about 10'? That is some pretty crappy shooting by Johnnie Law Dog.

No, smartguy. Different cartridges have different length capabilities. Our department carries 21 ft. cartridges. You can get 15, 25 and I believe, 30 ft. as well. Theres a whole lot of people in this thread that know zero about Tasers and how they function. I shot a guy with a Taser at about 6 ft and only one probe hit him. The other probe hit his loose clothing. Thankfully he was touching the wire and completed the circuit. When the probes are fired, they come out of the cartridge at a slight "V" angle and of course that angle increases as the distance from the Taser increases.

Know your backstop.

Toddlers work very well.

If 100 toddlers need to be partially tased so that 1 guy running away doesn't get away, I say, tase baby, tase.

mediablitz: when one of them discharged the non-lethal compliance device

An awesomely Orwellian term.

I understand they can be very handy for maintaining a Freedom Zone.

I don't know whether to be grateful they weren't shooting at the person fleeing or to advocate that the officer be fired? Maybe both? I kind of feel like "Dear Police Officers, If we want our toddlers to be accidentally shot (or tasered) we have gang-bangers for that. Your contribution is not required."

The misleading quality of that headline puts both CNN and Fox News to shame.

A 3-year-old girl suffered a minor puncture wound Friday when she was struck by a barb from an electric stun gun fired by a patrolman running down a fleeing parole violator

One of two barbs attached to electrified wires on the weapon hit the suspect, and the other struck the nearby child, who was with her parents, SDPD public-affairs Lt. Andra Brown said. The girl did not receive an electric shock

That's some fine policework, Lou.
