(Patch)   Police say they only tase people when absolutely necessary. So this three-year-old must have done something horrible   (imperialbeach.patch.com) divider line 73

Litterbox: JohnCarter: Don't these have an "effective" range of about 10'? That is some pretty crappy shooting by Johnnie Law Dog.

No, smartguy. Different cartridges have different length capabilities. Our department carries 21 ft. cartridges. You can get 15, 25 and I believe, 30 ft. as well. Theres a whole lot of people in this thread that know zero about Tasers and how they function. I shot a guy with a Taser at about 6 ft and only one probe hit him. The other probe hit his loose clothing. Thankfully he was touching the wire and completed the circuit. When the probes are fired, they come out of the cartridge at a slight "V" angle and of course that angle increases as the distance from the Taser increases.

LMMFAO. It's a magic TASR!

Sin_City_Superhero: ALL three-year-olds should be tased...daily. ALL of them.

Came here to say this. Who HASN'T wanted to tase a 3-year old?

I wouldn't be pissed my kid got hit as much as I'd be pissed that a farking cop can't even fire a taser correctly. The entire lot is damn near useless as anything other than tax collectors.

mediablitz: when one of them discharged the non-lethal compliance device

An awesomely Orwellian term.

But it's a very accurate description. I mean, the taser doesn't kill you, the heart attack does! Duh! If people wouldn't have hearts, it wouldn't be a problem. Stupid people!

"Police taze toddler in Nestor, at least his Howard is OK"

But I guess the Nintendo Power reference was too obscure :D

As the parent of a formerly wonderful child who is now full-blast in the terrible 2's, there are times where tazing a toddler would be perfectly acceptable.

que.guero: FTFA - "Her parents displayed an "understanding" attitude about the mishap while interacting with police, Brown said."

One is left to assume that they displayed this attitude once they were forced into the party escort submission position.

Who would be upset when the cops decide to fully fund their precious snow flakes college fund.

Somehow I think most parents of 3 year old girls would take some issue with this...

Taser Barb Removal

"B B B Butt she didnt get shocked!" Is not quite as mitigating as it was before I saw this.

Know your backstop.

Toddlers work very well.

If 100 toddlers need to be partially tased so that 1 guy running away doesn't get away, I say, tase baby, tase.

As a mother, and a grandmother- who obeys the law (usually) and it the first one to help a fellow human in need-

This cop who was unable to control his weapon hitting a child in my care would have had more than a fleeing violator on his hands. I don't give a fark if the lines ar 15 or 30 feet, I don't need to know how a tazer works, and I give a fark if it was an accident. These are police officers who carry and utilize weapons. A weapon used where a 3 year old is 'accidentally' hit by an officer...

We live with consequences. Why the fark shouldn't they?

Because they're human and we're sheep.

Now that I think about it, maybe that explains the NYPD Officer who was planning to kill and eat folks.

My thoughts exactly.
Had someone accidentally tazed the cop, that would probably have been something like "committed an armed assault with potentially lethal force".

The girl did not receive an electric shock, the lieutenant said.

Are people so ignorant about how electricity works that this needed to be specified?
