"hilarious" (ftfa)? no
clever and sincere? yes
good on him? yes...this is a potentially dangerous situation to which his response is better safe than sorry, the show can wait a few months

I doesn't take a genius to know that "fan" stands for fanatic.

This guy was just a foul-mouthed, medicore comedian for decades. And still is. Why the sudden "comedy genius" status?

And fawning over that letter as something cool and witty? Really?

There were a few things. He's now older, balder, fatter, and more divorced than in previous years. His look and experiences are now perfect for his soul-crushed middle aged white guy act.

Judging by your sense of humour, your soul may have been born pre-crushed.

I kind-of agree.

His show is okay. I liked the first season of it, anyway. Since then, it's ceased to be a comedy and is about the darkest drama EVER. Not my thing, really. But it's well-done. It's a good show. Good for Louis.

But his standup SUCKS. The bits he puts in the show are okay, but I've tried watching his standup specials, and they're not funny. He's personable, and his delivery is good, but he's just not that funny.

I like the guy, though.

Louis CK is the funniest comedian alive today. From the past decade of deaths, if George Carlin or Mitch Hedberg were alive he'd be the third greatest. I've always been a huge fan, and it's great to see him get some recognition. He's one of the good guys. He isn't in it for the money. He's in it for the art. For the trolls who want to argue that just look at the fact he gave the vast majority of the money he made selling his comedy special online to charity and his staff. If you don't like him that's all well and good. You're probably the type that thinks Dane Cook is the end all be all, and that Carlos Mencia makes you laugh until your abs ache. That's fine, too. Only an asshole would knock what simpletons find funny. Thing is, like him or not you should at least respect the guy for being incredibly affable and down-to-earth.

Closest anyone will ever get without peeling George's skin off and wearing it like a set of tear-away stripper clothes. I also appreciate that he starts over from scratch every year. Comedians that make an entire career off the same tired jokes (read: Every other comedian ever) are only funny for 5 minutes. Louis will still be cranking out quality jokes 10 years from now. Provided he's still alive to do so, of course.

I find is show incredibly, and at times even genius. Agree with some others about his pure stand-up not being as good, but I really don't care. Wish there were more shows like Louie on TV.

Mitch was the worst live performance I have ever seen. He fell over drunk, held the mic by the cable over his mouth and didn't make a lick of sense.

I've definitely gotta be in the mood for his show because it can be downright depressing, kinda like Wilfred, but at the same time I've never regretted watching an episode I wasn't "in the mood" for. His stand-up, on the other hand, almost always slays me. Even after repeat viewings. I love his delivery, what can I say? But if he's honestly what people consider to be "mediocre" comedy, I love the farking dogshiat out of some mediocre comedy. He's definitely my #1 favorite comic right now, having dethroned Patton Oswald about 4 years ago. Not to take anything away from Patton, the gravy pipe gets me every time, but Louis is just great right now. All of his stand-up specials are great in my opinion.

I don't think he's mediocre comedy at all. I just don't think he slays in his stand-up as some think. But he's still better than 90% of the crap out comedy wise, and I'd go see a show in a heartbeat (and have a bought a few of 'em).

The TV show hits me differently. I agree that it can be disturbingly dark, but I think there's a certain optimism about humanity that pervades it, immaterial of however bad his life can get. A lot of it being a, "We're all in this together, and we need to open our eyes to other people," bit of preaching. The only episode, for me, that was truly just dark with very little redeeming value was the one with his suicidal friend. That one almost got there, but I still think it just ended with a spiraling darkness, or maybe as a cautionary tale of what happens when you hate the world around you.

I caught him sober. As sober as he could get, at least. I sat right next to the stage. Could've reached out and grabbed his ankles if I wanted. I believe most of his behaviour was an act, because immediately after he was done he smiled really big, said "you guys were great" and shook our hands. Best live comedy experience of my life. Would've been perfect if he did the "If carrots get you drunk rabbits would be farked up" I did kind of annoy him at first, because I was so excited I laughed at basically everything. He made the comment "Okay, laugh at everything I say" haha.

It was only a matter of time when "Louie" became a hit on FX that the Fark Superlosers would turn Louie C.K. from under appreciated comic genius to "never funny" and "overrated". You guys are so predictable.

I was going to entertain your argument that Louis is the funniest comedian alive today, but then you followed it up with Carlin and Hedberg. Carlin wasn't funny for the last 30+ years of his life. He was interesting and still somewhat intelligent, but not very funny at all. Hedberg was funny to people who have no imagination and think "thinking outside the box" is a thing.
