Misha80: Spiralmonkey: Misha80: Has anyone considered the impact of 60 Hudson St. being underwater for an extended period of time?

Link

Not really. Now Amsterdam would cause more of a glitch, but it would only be a glitch because it just reroutes.

Don't most transatlantic cables originate in lower Manhattan? Do you think we will see no affect at all outside the directly affected areas?

It's one of several locations, and as I said, traffic reroutes when a hub is disabled,

The president canceled his campaign trips Monday and Tuesday to the swing states of Florida and Colorado, far beyond the reach of Hurricane Sandy. His people say the president needs to stay home and monitor things, which one Republican found interesting.

"You notice that he's canceling his trips over the hurricane. He didn't cancel his trips over Benghazi," former GOP presidential candidate and ex-House Speaker Newt Gingrich said on ABC's "This Week."

Use of "y'all" in any form automatically gets the boot.
In fact, "y'all" usually is just a tip of the iceberg indicator of the stupid yet to come.

It's big but it's not much more than a nor'easter. Meh, I have been through brazillions of thunderstorms that were worse.

Some flooding, some wind damage, but this ain't no "unprecedented" event like they keep saying. It's unprecedented and interesting in meteorological terms but as for scary threats this one's a marshmallow.

Hey, thanks.
It's getting steadily grosser outside... The DE & NJ shores are going to really suffer today, and the inland flooding tomorrow is going to suck. I'd just rather people had places to go.
Plus, the crisismap is just plain cool to play with.

Why don't you people move from places that are prone to get hit by blizzards and hurricanes? My federal taxes need to stop going to you irresponsible folk who decided to go live by the water in hurricane and blizzard country. Every time something like this happens nobody decides to move and it happens all over again.

marius2: While I hope you stay dry, I have to ask how the roads are looking in Nawfolk. I'm hoping they close ODU tomorrow as well, I have zero desire to take a Latin test....

Well, the street in front of my house (about 1-1/2 miles north of ODU) is a lake, but I haven't heard about Hampton Blvd or the midtown tunnel, which sounded as though it had been intermittently available. The reports I'm hearing is that downtown is a mess as it always is when it floods. I just received a student announcement from ODU stating that they were going to make a decision about the University's operational status later today.
