I'm in the Hudson Valley at my office and I think I'm the only person who decided to go to work today. It's barely raining outside. :|

marius2: It's pretty damn calm here still in Chesapeake, VA. Apparently the storm will hit us again tonight, but it just looks like a crappy day out. No rain, not much wind. Apparently some near historic flooding though.

I've been riding this thing out in Norfolk. If the Sewell Point station is correct, I should see just a little less water than Irene. This is good because it means that my laundry room will remain dry.

So far, compared to the dericho we had this summer, this storm is bullshiat.

That could be because this storm is still about 12 hours from landfall.

I still have power and cable at 9AM here in suburban DC. No work today. What goes better in coffee- rum, whiskey, or scotch?

Work was closed for me today. Its a kind of catch 22 with it: its great that I'm off, but the reason why is the downside.

Steady rain so far in central nj. Winds are strong but nothing too bad. I'm glad the rain held back until this morning. Reports say the day forecast will be worse and the night forecast will weaken alittle.

Does this hurricane seem rather vindictive to anyone?

I have 3 cases of beer. Thanks for telling me to prepare, government people. I heeded your call.

My rental property back home in Baltimore is getting its ass kicked since I rented it out. Two hurricanes and the dericho in the past year. I don't have flood insurance, but the (finished) basement floods a bit when the power goes out and the sump pump stops working. It overwhelms the french drain system I have.

I have a feeling this storm is going to be expensive.

Up here in Boston, it's just windy with some light rain. Nothing crazy so far.

I'm literally going to be one of maybe three people in my office today. When they say all non-essential personnel can go home, that basically means eveyone but me. Hoo boy, hope I don't blow away driving home tonight.

Some of those waves from the Point live feed are already crazy, What's crazier is I just saw some guy adjust the camera. Get out of there man.

I'm on the shore myself, and parts of my town were evacuated.

For all you guys going derp derp cat 1, it's a full moon which will cause higher tides combined with areas that are pretty much surrounded by water on every side. Next time you go on google maps, check the satellite image of NJ's coast, it's all thin strips of land surrounded by water.

While I hope you stay dry, I have to ask how the roads are looking in Nawfolk. I'm hoping they close ODU tomorrow as well, I have zero desire to take a Latin test....

It's been raining since Friday here in Cleveland. They are predicting more wind problems than rain problems for our area so we'll see how it turns out... This hurricane is huge. The eye hasn't hit landfall yet but I'm getting the rain from it already..

Well that didn't take long:

The president canceled his campaign trips Monday and Tuesday to the swing states of Florida and Colorado, far beyond the reach of Hurricane Sandy. His people say the president needs to stay home and monitor things, which one Republican found interesting.

"You notice that he's canceling his trips over the hurricane. He didn't cancel his trips over Benghazi," former GOP presidential candidate and ex-House Speaker Newt Gingrich said on ABC's "This Week."

South Jersey here. It's been raining pretty steadily since last night and the wind is beginning to pick up. The sky is a really weird color. We're on relatively high ground compared to the rest of town, so my biggest concern is not flooding so much as losing one of the enormous trees in the back yard. My great big pansy of a dog is huddled next to me. I think I'm going to go make bacon and pancakes while I still can.

Stay at work, build forts all over the office. When people come back to work claim that they are not worthy and you are their leader. Sacrifice an animal on a desk.

Carn: So far, compared to the dericho we had this summer, this storm is bullshiat.

Give it time.

The major winds haven't hit yet, the ground is saturated. Expect trees to start falling tonight, bringing the power outages.

I'm sure the areas that are not flood-prone will be fine in a structural sense, but I really don't see any way of escaping mass power outages.

Luckily, I work at the hospital, and I live close enough to be on the same grid. We are usually one of the first to get power back after an outage.

This will be a dud. Mild flooding. Slight property damage. No loss of life.

I'd be surprised if I didn't lose power. I live in an older neighborhood in NoVA and we have way too many tall trees right near the power lines. We lose power during almost any decent sized storm so we've got that going for us. At least I live way up on a hill so flooding isn't a concern.
