The first few could be setting up for an Untouchables remake...

Someone should take advantage and make a low-budget movie
/what about? idk...

It's the rapture!!1!

Or knowing New York, the opposite.

As a former NYer, that creeped me right the fark out.

Especially the photos where things seemed ... clean. *shivers*

In other news ... rain and wind bands are being felt up here along the NH/MA border. Local school districts are closed, but some retailers have stayed open (it doesn't really matter as their shelves are empty of hurricane-related goods). The cat's currently staring out the window and watching the rain but I'm sure he'll start clinging to my lap shortly.

So far, seems like it'll be a boring day home from work (but hey, I'm getting paid for it and the day doesn't come out of my leave pool).

I don't think New York will look any different after the rapture.

Exactly. In fact, they may simply rename it Hell and continue under new management.

Except that other than the pictures of Times Square, that's not the NYC Subway system, that's the two commuter rail stations in Manhattan. Booth look pretty abandoned around 2am on a weekday...

I can see it now. Wall Street flooded. the stock market closed for a week. People in their suits wondering around aimlessly and everyone on Fox News complaining "Obama doesn't care about rich people". This storm is truly heralding in the end of times.

Two? They all look like Grand Central to me. Which one is Penn?

Very creepy.

Oh, I see - the one labeled 'Penn Station'.

Must. Have. More. Coffee.

All that remains are the smells of piss and old vomit.....

meh, I've seen it that empty multiple times. Saturdays at 5am, with some supreme trashy girls outside who have plastic bags over their feet. Missing the last train sucks, but they always make me feel better about myself.

Interesting.

Seeing people in worse off condition has never made me feel better about myself.

Why should it? What I am, and what I struggle with and what I succeed at, hasn't changed just because someone in worse straits has shown up.

I don't get it at all.

I always enjoy weekend mornings out of Penn Station when I'm on the first train out to play golf and the NJ Transit area is full of half-drunk and passed out people who just look like hell.

They're empty but for the hundreds of people taking pictures of the empty subway.

2012-10-29 08:53:29 AM
Copying and pasting something I posted yesterday: Only time I've ever seen anything like that is when there was that steam pipe explosion a few years back. My rush-hour 6 train went through Grand Central without stopping and there was nobody on the platforms. It was eerie. They shut down the Lex line soon after, I think the train I was on might have been the last to go through.

And back to now...I have been to Penn Station at 4:30am. It's not a good place to be. It's never *completely* empty like it is in those pictures though.

You're right. You clearly don't get it. Poor people, you see, are funny. That's especially true when it's cold and they don't have the things they need to keep warm. HO HA! And then, if you have material goods in excess but aren't obligated to share, it gets even more hilarious. That's what makes you laugh and then the laughing makes you feel better. It's brain chemistry and stuff.

This is a shot I took of the French Quarter after Isaac had moved inland. No mandatory evacuation, but there was a general curfew for a couple of nights.

Speaking from experience I don't think he's talking about poor people, but rather people who went a little too hard that night and look like it. Being forced to wait for the 4:54 is pretty high on the "maybe I should reevaluate my life" scale.

Because then I know it could be worse, and the things I do to impress people (they usually wear ridiculous high heels that they cannot sustain wearing) aren't going to screw me over later and make me wear plastic bags on my feet. If you want to have some moral argument here, then just let me know that you haven't laughed at someone's poor planning.

Yeah, I've never seen Penn that empty but I have seen Grand Central with just 2 guards in there. I practically sprinted through the doors for the first train one morning just so I could get to a train and sleep. The moment I saw the openness I had to stop and just take it in. And then a herd of drunken zombies ruined it.

Well, if I misunderstood I apologize. The "plastic bags on the feet" thing is pretty common for the homeless folks I have experience with. (Also sleeping in trash bags to hold a little heat). That kinda pushed a button for me.

maybe nyc will be lucky and the rain will completely flood the subway tunnels, thereby washing everything out and they will have a sparkling clean and fresh smelling subway system.

and yes, i'm kidding, so all of you killjoys out there that will point out the fallacy of it---dont.

Man if I were a filmmaker, I'd be taking a camera down there and just shooting stock film. Maybe blow a little paper around. You can recreate bits and pieces of the subways in the studio, but those long, wide open, empty expanse shots are hard.
