If the yacht is so great, why was it late?

I miss you Steve. :(

I think it's creepy when people say this about someone they never knew personally.

With that square bow and all that glass it doesn't look like it could handle any real weather. Wonder if they're really going to take it across the Atlantic or just send it down to the Med and leave it there.

2012-10-28 05:36:57 PM
Looks kind of bland to me.

/but that's just me
//and it's bigger than my dinghy

What sucks is that his family'll have to buy another one in six months because it won't be compatible with docks anymore.

2012-10-28 05:55:39 PM
I heard his yacht cost three times as much as comparable yachts from other vendors.

2012-10-28 06:03:05 PM
I hope it uses Google Maps.

2012-10-28 06:57:00 PM
I wonder how many Chinese slave laborers it took to build that yacht?

EVIL RICH PEOPLE!!!

Or does Jobs not count on Fark?

Alright, I laughed.

Is it thinner than conventional yachts?

Hideous eyesore. My daughter has drawings of better designed yachts hanging on our fridge.

I'm sure they'll round the corners a bit in the next release.

A thing of beauty, subby? Looks like a floating warehouse..

2012-10-28 08:18:54 PM
Looks pretentious and douchey, kinda like Jobs himself.

2012-10-28 08:19:47 PM
Not Phillipe Starck's best work and I'm guessing the blame falls on someone that wore Mom jeans, mock turtlenecks and white sneakers and dabbled in design.

Looks blocky And minimalist. I'll bet Jobs patented using rectangles on a yacht.

Considering that most farkers act like Steve molested them as children - is this behavior really a surprise?

A yacht, how Buddhist.

This.
He had a thing for minimalism and this yacht seems to reflect it... but it doesn't fit well on the water.

Also, what the hell is up with that gap in the bow? (or is that just me not seeing it strait)

That's tin foil. It's shiny, so it looks like a gap.

There's also a gap shaped like an anchor.

What? No rounded corners? Looks like a stack of MacBooks

Steve Jobs wanted to get laughed at by anybody who saw that maritime eyesore, apparently.

You sure do now how to shoehorn politics where it isn't warranted at all.

Nice strawman.

I think we may have found another group of people that would want to murder Mr. Jobs. Referring to naval architects of course.

If it was a thread about a rich guy's yacht and it wasn't Jobs, the echo chamber would be churning out "he has too much money", "he's greedy", "he's selfish", "he's a neocon" etc.

Well I miss people I never knew personally. John Hughes and John Candy to name a couple from different ends of the spectrum. They both had a take that was worth considering.

Jobs too. I get that for you guys it's a requirement to either come out as liking him or hating him but I don't really feel either way. What I see is that he had a serious take and a great story and if that could have gone on I'd have been interested to tune into it from time to time.

I also think the yacht sucks massive balls, in case anyone is keeping score.

2012-10-28 08:48:32 PM
I went back and looked at Starck's design for Andrey Melnichenko's yacht and the hull design for Venus is a hybrid of Melnichenko's hull with the shiny vertical bow of his yacht tender. Lots of recycling on Starck's part. It may not be Jobs' fault (other than final approval) after all.

I think Job's yacht is even uglier than Melnichenko's (something I would not have believed possible until today). Seriously rich people, if you're going to spend tens of millions of dollars on a superyacht at least pick an attractive design.

The funny thing is, I like Starck's work - just not his yachts.

More eye bleach.

I wouldn't call it good looking, but it looked like an awesome party/houseboat.

Big decks etc, hit play.

Worlds soppiest music, I don't like the boat anymore.

Yes, but with the aluminum hull, how well do the antennas work?

Listen, I like Macs (and I have an iPhone) but that sad music playing that the poor Billionaire died before getting to enjoy his yacht with his family?

It's just hard to muster sympathy for THAT.

2012-10-28 09:22:41 PM
Wow, that is an ugly ass looking boat.

2012-10-28 09:30:28 PM
That is a boat designed by an out-of-work architect... who possibly had not seen a real ocean-going boat before.

Christ, it's an ugly thing.

way south: Also, what the hell is up with that gap in the bow?

It's a chromed bar wrapped around the front of the bow.

That thing is going to be pretty choppy on the water. There's a reason they stopped making boats with a squared off bow.

Ass.

You can say ass on fark. We're not 3. We're 3.5.

Yatch looks like shiat, it's clear Jobs browbeat the designer into giving him what he wanted. Why do people 'work' with a huge designer and then force him to produce an abomination?

2012-10-28 09:45:57 PM
Well I'm glad everyone else hated it too, so I don't have to be the first one and be accused of jealousy or something.
