Rincewind53: ... wouldn't the real soldiers be more useful to have around than non-trained civilians? I mean, the guns and all are nice, but...

They would want to be in charge. He likes the power.

Thinking the same. Surely they had the resources as 73 people already live in the town.

NeoCortex42: Wasn't there a ton of prison plot before the chopper goes down in the comics?

Yes, but they don't have all the same characters, so it appears they're going to be skipping some of it.

SPOILERS
Trafficguy2000:
Hot Rod Zoidberg: I've only read the comics through the prison arc, and I don't remember exactly, but why does The Governor care so much that any group of people exist somewhere else?

He uses strangers as food for his zombies that entertain the citizens in gladiator style comat.

And once he learns about the prison he wants it because it is safer than his current city defenses

Ahhhh yes, I remember that now. Thank you.

/added a lil spoiler note.

2012-10-28 09:55:31 PM
Okay, I guess you guys are probably right; the soldiers would be too hard for the Governor to control up front. But damn, they're soldiers, so they're used to taking orders, and they would be useful in the long run if he convinced them to join him. You know, carrot over the stick.

But damn, it is an effective way to show that he's an asshole.

The soliders would not be beholden to the Governor and he knew that, thus the carnage. He knew that they would challange his authority in Woodbury. Also, he wanted the weapons.

Have you played the video games? I'm just looking forward to Lilly, and hoping she mentions her first group of survivors.

In-farking-credible. It's episodic story-telling done right, with much better writing than the TV show, characters you care deeply about, and lots of heart-string pulling. It's not very good as a video-game per se, but if you think of it as essentially an interactive movie, it's A++.

To give you some idea of how good it is, I got two friends of mine to play it who were both very "meh" about the show; immediately after playing it we all started having long conversations about the video game and how it went and oh my god, that moment, it was like a punch in the gut, but so good.

2012-10-28 10:14:08 PM
I should add, it's technically an "adventure game" in the style of old point-and-click adventure games. It's on all gaming systems, PC, PS3, Xbox, and even iPhone/iPad. I'm a huge evangelist. The last episode (there are going to be 5 episodes in "season one") is coming out in about a month, and it's going make me an emotional wreck, I just know it.

It's a classic adventure game. Most of the episodes are pretty good (2 was kind of lame), but overall it's a good game.

I've been keeping up with each episode as they've come out as I am a huge fan of the comic and show...and it's true- the game puts you in charge of some eff'd up decisions. Life or death decisions.

And what lacks in all other types if games like that is your character is on a horizontal bar between the 'hero' choice and the 'villain' choice, and the accountability for those actions doesn't immediately affect your character.
In TWD game, people remember what you say, how you act, and hold you responsible for your decisions.

I've made the commitment to myself to play through all five episodes with the choices I've made. No changes. I think that's in the spirit of the game. I'll replay the whole thing again to answer my burning 'what ifs'. But damn if there weren't a couple of times I wanted to hit restart.
