Rwa2play: Smeggy Smurf: East Coast problems. Flyover states laugh at you.

Better a hurricane than a tornado.

so possible week+ long storm+flooding is better than an hour of minor destruction? A tornado is a small localized hurricane(similar wind speeds, much smaller path), with small chance of causing widespread devastation or months of cleanup. Joplin was a freak occurance similar to Katrina. I've lived through about 25 tornadoes with zero damage for miles around me. Last large tornado was Barneveld, almost 30 years ago. A whopping 13 deaths, spread across 3 states(46 tornadoes over 12 hours), vs. average hurricane 300 miles long, duration of over a week, death toll averages 50-100 per storm.

Joe Peanut - Not being intentionally stupid, I don't use instragram and can't take pics on my phone. I didn't know you could put pictures on Instagram that you didn't just take yourself - sorry!

And it's 126 nautical miles from the center of the storm, too.

D'oh, I got interrupted by more pressing matters earlier today, so I wasn't able to come back to this and finish it until now... and now the joke's already been made, but oh well.

You don't want to be too hung over the next day in case you need to shoot looters (it's hard to keep a tight grouping with blurry vision).

I came for the "OMG LIBURUL OVERREACTION OBAMA WAAAAARGBLLLLLL" and was pretty much disappointed.

It must really be bad then. If it lightens up you know it will come back.. but jessh.

No screaming "ONLY CATAGORY 1, LIGHT STORM..."

Fark has lost it or it's bad.

Lusiphur: IHateLongIsland: youngJohn: I've had this fark account since I was 21 years old, five years ago. I've lived in a few states since then, and just a few months ago I moved to Long Island. If you've ever heard New Yorkers are a**holes, you haven't seen them in panic mode at the supermarket... I had a woman knock on my car window to yell at me for how long I was taking to leave my parking spot.

Yep, sounds about right. Hahahahaha. So glad I moved out of that area a few years back.

Long Island isn't New York. It's some weird amalgam of the Jersey Shore, Appalachia, and a third-world Eastern European failed state. New York ends at Citi Field. Anything west of that...

This. The moment I read "car window" I knew this wasn't a CSB about New York.

I don't own a gun, but I do have a couple of good padlocks and a pretty kickass German steel cutting knife, so I guess I'll be okay.

Look here, I've seen a few photoshops in my days. You can tell by my FARK member number that I've been around for a while. Clearly that is a streetlight made to look like a bird. Just look at the pixels for crying out loud.

I just went outside, and strangely it was only partly cloudy. On the other hand, Bloomberg screwed up completely when we had the blizzard that took everyone a week to dig out of, so I guess he's erring on the side of "I'd better save face."

Head over to Johnstown, never floods there.

make me some tea: Serious Post on Serious Thread: Howdy neighbor. I'm thinking Glendale will be ok if the power doesn't go out for days.

Yeah you're good. We're 4 blocks outside of Zone C near Northern Blvd but it's like 100' above sea level here so I'm confident we'll be fine. Kinda the top of the hill here.

Good luck man, looks like Flushing might get screwed b/c of the 'surge', but otherwise they say it's just the wind. 2 days off, booze √ , junk food √, water √, movies and, god forbid, books and candles √√√ WOOHOO!!

Thanks. So far the office is planning on working 9-1pm. I'm suggesting they revise that. Our HR partner company is doing 8:30-12pm with a skeleton crew/key people only to process payroll.

I couldn't agree more. I lived in Nassau County for years then LIC right on the East River for two. NY is great, Long Island is poo.

What Lusiphur said, though Staten Isl. makes LI look like utopia. I blame it on the landfill leaking into the water supply.

SuperNinjaToad: My sister HAD to go to New Brunswick for business (J&J). it's quite far inland though still in NJ. Any farkers here familiar with that town and know if it's going to be severely affected by this storm?

concern there is for street flooding from rain, and power outages.

Yeah, it's still pretty calm, but I don't actually fault him at all for taking prudent precautions. I was just having a bit of fun.

/he sounded really hoarse at the briefing I saw on TV
//could just be a cold, but I wouldn't be surprised if he hasn't gotten much sleep this weekend
