THE ESTIMATED ARRIVAL TIME IN HAWAII OF THE FIRST TSUNAMI WAVE IS

1028 PM HST SAT 27 OCT 2012

So that would be 4:28am EST - about 2 hours from now, correct?

2012-10-28 02:33:21 AM
I won't be awake for the impact, so please be safe everyone.

Or at least post pictures of the aftermath that I can browse later.

If you're in Hawaii, get on high ground, water and electronics don't mix well and tsunami runup may be as high as 6 feet on Maui and southern side of the Big Island (according to best guesstimate--there is worry as there is only one tidal gauge between Maui and Haida territory so they really won't know how big it'll be until it hits).

It shouldn't be as bad as Tohoku's tsunami but still nothing to fark with...

Fark, my friend just landed in Maui yesterday and she's staying right on the beach. She says she'll keep us all posted, but damn. Scary way to ruin a vacay.

Got some buddies there who are in the Army. Any idea if the Army posts are in the potential Tsunami zone?

There's a thread a little below this one. Tsunami action is a result of an earthquake in Canada.

Expect 5 inch waves.... no seriously that's the height they are hitting th bc coastline.

2012-10-28 02:37:11 AM
It sure don't look too good for all those blue states. First you got there "Frankenwatchamacallitstorm" and now the island from which the "President" was allegedly born is now the target of a tsunami. Things sure don't look good for libtards! Go RMONEY!!

MAGNITUDE - 7.7 MOMENT

Shiat. It's like throwing darts at the Pacific Rim, and so far they've missed Juan de Fuca.

If she's not bailed, best suggestion--have her look in the front of the phone book; tsunami evacuation maps are in the front of the phone book in Hawaii and info on evacuation centers.

Supposedly Hawaii Civil Defense is assisting in evac ops so hopefully she'll be safe. Good luck to you and your friend.

Obama keeps the earthquake generator next to his time machine. There's a sub-basement in the White House that looks like the warehouse from Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Stay safe Hawaii!

Weather machine being used to attack the northeast and interrupt elections. Now an earthquake producing a tsunami that threatens the President's "home state". What if the tsunami floods out any records buildings? This just gets weirder and weirder.

I'll troll attempt myself - 2/10

Since this is a tsunami thread, there's something I've always wondered. They used to be called "tidal waves" and every said that that was wrong because they have nothing to do with tides. So tsunami become the new word....except that just means "harbor wave" in Japanese. Which also has nothing to do with them. So why change the name from something unrelated to something else that's also unrelated?

Umm it's an island... If the water levels go up it'll just rise up over the water and then float back down yeesh.

Wave height in BC has pretty much nothing to do with how big they'll be when they hit Hawaii. There's a whole lot more room for them to pick up momentum than there was between the epicenter and the BC coast.

The worry re Hawaii (as I understand it) is because there's a lot of ocean between there and BC and not a whole lot between there--and a lot of flat beaches in Hawaii, meaning there's a lot of ocean (and beach) where tsunamis can build up.

(One worrisome thing is that earthquakes in Alaska and BC which haven't caused huge tsunami runups in their areas have been known to cause tsunamis in Hawaii, particularly the Hilo tsunami in 1960. Hence why Hawaii civil defense does tend to worry about this stuff)

One of the advisories I just heard--in the OMFG SRS BIZNESS category--Hawaiians in non-evac zones are advised to conserve water and to not flush the toilet because water and sewage pumps are being turned off in prep for the incoming tsunami.

Also, if you are in a building above four stories you don't have to evacuate, as that's above flood level.

/and kudos to Hawaii for calling it civil defense

Honolulu Farker here safe on high ground but this looks bad. Waring sirens been going off. I got some groceries, some peanut butter, to last a couple of days.

The predictions they're showing on that Hawaii news station are ~4-5 ft on a couple of the islands (the side facing towards Canada), with 2 ft-ish on the other islands / other side

'Big f*cking waves' is too much of a mouthful. And fairly unprofessional.

I think the Army post are safe. Hickham AFB and Kaneohe MCB maybe not so much. Don't know about other islands

Is she on a beach facing Canada? If not, there's probably not much risk.

Closer to 10 inches. Link to updated tsunami warning.

This is not a killer tsunami. However, even a foot or two of unexpected high water can cause enough damage for someone to sue the gummint for not warning them.
