Well what I am watching is more football, both college and pro. The way I feel at this moment, if, when hockey comes back, Bettman is still the commissioner then I would rather watch tiddily-winks.

I've watched a couple KHL games on ESPN, but with the time difference they're not really on at times you'd want to drink a beer.

I've watched more NCAA hockey this season than the last 5 combined.

Guessing at this point that if I want to watch hockey, I'm gonna have to just go down to the Verizon and watch the Monarchs. Would be nice to see hockey on TV, but that's what the Friday Night ECAC/Hockey East game on NESN's for.

\please god let Tim Armey learn how to farking recruit

Also, the Sharks joke is great.

That was comedy gold. Both the flopping AND the stifling defensive systems.

Scottish football. What more could anyone possibly ever want?

Last time this happened Poker blew up. Poker's kind of fallen out of favor recently so I guess there's room for it to make a comeback.

The NHL was just starting to rebuild it's audience over the last two seasons. This was the worst possible time for a lockout.

Which is why Buttman and the big-market NHL owners picked this moment to pull this shiat, they figured the fans would rise up in anger over the greed of the players and DEMAND that the players settle in favor of the owners, not realizing that their stunt would result in the fans rising up against the owners and Darth Buttman, having seen through the rather thin smokescreen the owners tried to throw up.

I'm watching the NHL lockout. Nothing more entertaining than watching two groups of rich people fight over money. It would be a bonus if, after they settle and resume hockey, that a large part of the fans become former fans and never watch the NHL again.

Being a Canadian, I'm so tired of the media saying fans are missing hockey.

No, they are missing the NHL. I stopped watching the league when the jets left, and started watching it again when they came back. Yeah, it sucks there is no NHL, but if you only watch the NHL, I doubt how big of a fan of the sport of hockey you are.

I will watch the local junior league and the chl, and I'd love to watch NCAA hockey, but they don't show it much up here, unless you have the NHL network.

I also wish the jets channel would show the ice caps games in place of the jets games right now...

Yeah, I wanted to get into the KHL, but the time difference makes it almost impossible. My local channel has been showing the ECHL Las Vegas Wranglers, which is cool.

Wholehardetly agree. Wranglers (for away games, go to Scooters on South Rainbow), plus, UNLV has an ACHA team.

If you only watch the NHL, you can't really complain.

Don't worry. They'll paint 'Thank You Fans' on the ice and... and... well, shiat, they already shot their fan-appreciation wad getting out of the last lockout, didn't they?

The fall/winter sports landscape is too crowded as it is. Im not even close to missing hockey. I was a casual fan, but meh. How about some Canadian Football or another hockey league that doesnt have teams from Phoenix and Tampa?

I used to work for the NHL, and this lockout isn't just costing fans, but the arenas and a lot of folks their jobs. Not just the players. Especially considering how much cash cities have pumped into the league and their teams. Folks I know are hurting, and when the dust settles, and the owners and the players get done with this pissing match, a lot of folks are still going to be hurting for the months of lost work. I'm glad I'm not still counting on that work, because this is going to get uglier before it gets better.

During the last lockout, I had season tickets to the Lowell Lock Monsters, and got my fill of hockey action then. Unfortunately, the franchise moved to Albany, so I guess it's the UMass River Hawks or P-Bruins for me this time.

Was that the year Chris Moneymaker won the WSOP main event? If so, I think having Joe Six-Pack win millions in a poker tournament had more to do with poker's popularity than an NHL lockout.

it has to do with the fact that it actually got the TV coverage that would have been given to the NHL. instead they filled the dead air with lots of things, and the one thing that turned out to be popular was poker. Timing is everything.

Better technically, no? Every bit as entertaining? Yup, and often moreso. there's a reason that the World Juniors are HUGE up here, and why CHL is getting broadcast more and more regularly. I'd much, much, MUCH rather watch CHL or CJHL than AHL, ECHL, or a European league.

So yeah, living 4 blocks from an SJHL franchise? Pretty good for me!

2012-10-28 05:16:42 PM
You've got the KHL and SEL, both of which are widely available to stream, the AHL, which is trickier to find and the broadcast quality is horrible, as well as random stuff from other top Euro leagues. All of which is assuming you don't have an NCAA/AHL/ECHL/Junior team in your area whose games you can attend.

If you like hockey, there's plenty of it being played.

Judging by the NHL ratings, you should continue watching what you've apparently been watching all along.

Only been to one game this year (home opener). Low playoff seed probably.

I saw Portage when they played against La Ronge in the Anavet cup. How're they looking this year? Rebuilding time yet?

yeah, the new NHL is pretty much unwatchable. For a few years, teams like Detroit and Chicago (and a few other teams year to year) kept the game alive, but the scores are so shaped, pro wrestling is less scripted.

2012-10-28 09:32:59 PM
The only good thing about the NHL is the playoffs.

Maybe that's their scheme. Cancel everything but the playoffs, improve the product on the ice by default because the regular season is unwatchable.

All y'all whinging about KHL game times . . . I get where you're coming from, but you've got to work with it. From my experience (east-coast American games work out to morning starts down here, west-coast games work out start around midday) it helps to stop thinking of hockey as a reason to get drunk and start thinking of it as hangover recovery.

/for the record, 8pm Moscow is noon NYC/Montreal, 9am LA/Vancouver, and 3am Sydney

So, as a Blues fan in Missouri, there really aren't any local options for hockey that I'm aware of, at least within driving distance. If I were to seek out some broadcast options to watch, what's a good place to find it? The local Fox Sports affiliate isn't showing any sort of hockey broadcast at all, and I'm not really sure what leagues are playing, what teams are worth watching, or what broadcast options are available..

I'd love to be able to watch some fairly professional, fairly regularly scheduled games on the usual suspects, but I'm not even sure where to find schedules and regular links. I'd also like them to be on at normal times - after work and before midnight. And of course, competitive, non-terrible play would be appreciated.

So what do, puckheads? My fan services for one season to the currently-playing hockey team that can convince me (and make me able) to watch.
