This would be the third strongest earthquake in the history of Canada according to Natural Resources Canada - http://www.earthquakescanada.nrcan.gc.ca/histor/top10-eng.php :

1. 1700/01/26 - 9.0 Cascadia subduction zone, British Columbia.
2. 1949/08/22 - 8.1 Offshore Queen Charlotte Islands, British Columbia.
3. 1970/06/24 - 7.4 South of Queen Charlotte Islands, British Columbia.

Any details yet? Everyone seem to be okay? Preliminary reports suggest that there aren't any damages...

2012-10-28 12:12:11 AM
Also, only in Canada would you have a 7.7 and no reports of damage.

2012-10-28 12:12:14 AM
I just assumed it was another fight between Canadian Biker gangs.

Flogster: Seeing that it happened near Prince Rupert, very few probably felt that.

It pops up on the CBC and CTV pages but it's only a few paragraphs.

So it sounds like BC got lucky with this one.

Just to be sure, we should arrest some seismologists.

about 700km/500mi NNW. The islands are 100km or so from the coast.

And this is an excellent occasion to let people know that the islands are called Haida Gwaii now (or still, or again, depending on your perspective).
