"In a mere 47 hours they found more than 12,000 instances of girls who had taken provocative portraits or videos of themselves;"

They could have done the same thing in three hours if they had visited 4Chan.

Maybe, just maybe, if we stopped considering sex to be bad, and looking sexy to be slutty, and dropped the whole idea of slutty-ness, and stopped being so nasty and judgmental about other peoples harmless behavior, the world would be a better place.

There. Problem solved. My job is done here. I will now go package the rainbow farts produced by my corral of unicorns, for sale on EBAY.

So the problem isn't that girls take pictures of themselves and then share them on the fark mothering internet?

Girls whoring out with phone cameras somehow becomes "innocent pictures". It's a miracle.

But there is one clear message: once a picture goes online, it can never be unpublic again. It's like trying to take out the tea once you've added boiling water.

What a crappy analogy. You could easily separate tea and water by for example distillation. Probably extraction would work too.

But they'd still be sluts even if we don't call them that.

And even better, the non-sluts would be sluts too since slutty would be the new normal.

Yay! Win for everybody!

Oh, c'mon! We've given up slut-shaming rape for you bleeding hearts (well, at least as long as they're not running for office with an "R" behind their name). How else are we going to be able to demean women by calling them whores?

And maybe monkies would fly out of my butt.

Stupid idea is stupid. Regardless of whether or not sex is considered bad, there will be pr0n. People like looking at attractive nekkid people. This is proven throughout history. Additionally, men are turned on visually, women by the ability to provide or to be seen as the dominant male. We're always going to try and get girls to show us their boobs.

And this is a good thing because boobs are good.

It's not harmless behaviour. Humans evolved the instinct to be wary of and to resent loose women as a means of reducing the spread of sexual diseases. Loose women (here in canada) have a herpes rate of 1 out of 4. There's also the super clap that's on its way...
Being loose (while a double standard towards men I admit) is not harmless. If we all just kept it in our pants we'd have a lot fewer problems in the way of STD's and STI's.

The same thing that's happened throughout history? Bad choices. That's what happens. The only real difference is that, in smaller communities, those bad choices could be used to discourage more kids from making those same bad choices. In the larger cities, that may or may not have worked.

Who, exactly, considers sex to be bad, other than Muslims and some fundamentalist groups?

The person judging the harmless behavior is the Time magazine which is saying that kids shouldn't take pictures of themselves because some pervert with mis-use them.

My 60-something year old mother doesn't seem to realize the consequences of her actions, so it's not just the teens and the tweens. With all the times I've had to devastate her FB page over her stupidly posting pictures of me online "because its a good picture!" you'd think she'd know by now that there is a reason I don't post my own pics. I do not want my pics online because go away, that's why.

/still trying to figure out how a pic of me in mismatched PJs, barely half awake, trying to figure out the coffee pot is a "good picture"

You do realize that it isn't the parent's job to do that - it's society's. At least, that how it is today.

Then it's the parent's job to come in and blame society when that doesn't happen. And sue... sue a lot.

This artical is true. About half of my porn stash is actually just pics I pulled from the Photobuckst and webshot albums of normal people.

Just girls having fun on vacation, or having a pool party.

It's odd to think that, to these people, the thousands of pics I have of them are all innocent fun; but to me, they're porn, mixed in with the hardcore stuff.

The downside of putting your life on the net for the world to see. Jackasses are going to data mine the shiat out of it and use it for everything you can and can't think of. Right now I would not be surprised if my face was in banner ad for counterfeit chef knives in japan or something.

I tried explaining to a friend why she was having problems with creepers and jobs when all she puts online is drunken party pics. She also wonders why she gets passed over in so many interviews. She does have qualifications, experience and works hard, but she doesn't show those features on facebook. People do look at that stuff these days more so if you put your facebook on the resume. They see a drunk party girl and if that is the only image you present, well that's all on you. I also jokingly told her there was a chance her pictures were already on numerous "amatuer" porn sites, despite there being few flirting and no nudity.

Never mind that dating sites do the exact same thing and use the same methods to get pictures. Often for their own ads and or fake profiles. Hell in the EULA it often states companies can sell or use pictures you upload, but who reads that stuff.

I honestly expect this to become a larger problem. If i had to guess on what would be the next big crackdown on porn I am guessing it will be on so called amatuer sites that use these data mined pics.

The porn industry is fueled by the fact that a lot of men would rather jerk it than sit thru 3 hours of bad television or a shiatty chick flick.

I actually saw an add about this today. I think it was one of those, "I'm an IBMer" deals. They showed a bunch of people that looked exactly the same and then explained that they were mining social and other data sources to differentiate the individuals. Blatantly came out and said it. People wonder why I keep things locked down nice and tightly.

As for your idiot friend and her FB page - yeah. That's stupid. I post silliness on mine, but I keep the friend count low and never, ever, accept anyone from work.

Ever.

This just in :

Before the internet, men looked at girls on the beach and had dirty thoughts.

After the internet, a girl's friend can take a picture of her, post it on facebook, where his friend can download it, share it with a website, and soon a hundred thousand men have had orgasms inspired by her body, without any regard or interest in anything else.

To women, it's as if we jerked off to a corpse.

To men, it's a very normal thing.

and for a tiny tiny tiny number of violent amoral sociopaths it's the inspiration to go rape a 6-year-old with the same color hair.

Won't someone please think of the six-year-olds?
