Needs to be repeated.

/The costumes alone were some of the best on TV.

I like the Treehouse of horror "Citizen Kang" Seems more appropriate every election cycle.

I voted for Kodoos

Avatar: The Last Airbender, "The Puppetmaster". A waterbender manipulates people by bending the blood inside them.

List fails miserably without the Halloween Newhart.

"They've kidnapped Gene Barry!"

2012-10-28 10:30:35 AM
The original Treehouse of Horror, specifically the interpretation of "The Raven"

I was going to call bs on the link for not including epidemiology in the list, but then I found it in its proper spot, right at number one

2012-10-28 10:39:59 AM
I'm with Oldiron_79 and Stavr0 - just give me some Treehouse of Horror and I'm all set. The aforementioned "Citizen Kang" ("Very well - abortions for some, miniature American flags for others!") and "The Shinning" ("Shhh, you wanna get sued!") are, of course, phenomenal, but I also especially loved "Clown without Pity" ("The toppings contain potassium benzoate...that's bad.") and "The Devil and Homer Simpson" ("'Dear Homer, I.O.U. one emergency donut. Signed, Homer.' Bastard! He's always one step ahead!").

jchic: THIS!

It's tradition to watch that episode on Halloween. The whole Matthew list of costumes is great too. And the scariest part of the episode? The psychic predicting Bill's death. Easily one of the most terrifying moments in TV.

Still not as good as "Who Got Dee Pregnant". The escalation of the joke of "Dee as a bird" was very well done, with the great payoff of an ostrich onscreen.

So much this. They had some really great Halloween episodes, especially in the earlier seasons. Their Halloween version of A Christmas Carol is my personal favorite.

eh, you'd only watch the first 10 episodes or so before turning it off.

They picked the wrong Buffy episode. The season 2 episode were they turn into their costumes was better

...The Phineas and Ferb Halloween ep. Funny in and of itself, but an all time hysterical, stand-up-and-applaud-in-your-own-living-room moment when Dad asks a question about horror movies.

/gotta see it, couldn't possibly explain it

Well this isn't much of a horror movie where are the rock and roll musical numbers.

No Treehouse of Horror where Bart was riding the bus and saw the monster wrecking it? Fail.

This!

And the author's breadth of TV exposure seems to be limited to the last 5 years, and the CB special that they watched in the 6th grade. There should be a minimum age requirement for anyone to generate a "best ever" list of anything.

Half the list could have been Treehouse episodes. If you have to limit it to one, it's hard to argue against The Shinning.

2012-10-28 01:48:41 PM
The list fails without "Pink Eye" from South Park.

Also, the uncomfortable humor of having Louie's daughter dressed up in blackface as Frederick Douglas is actually a bit undone in Season 3 when her mother is shown to be African-American. Or maybe it just adds to the weirdness. I'm just not sure.

Good to see the Freaks and Geeks episode make the list...Would have liked to see the That 70's Show Halloween episode with copious references to Hitchcock movies.

Rosanne owned Halloween. it was their "Christmas episode" from what i remember them saying in some interviews.

The New Adventures of Beans Baxter episode "A Nightmare on Beans' Street" is one of my favourites. Especially who they cast as "The Pumpkin Princess".

Another good Halloween episode was the Invader Zim Halloween episode. (Even if they did rip off the plot from the Dark Seed video game.)

2012-10-28 03:51:48 PM
The X-Files - "Home"

While not really a Halloween episode, it was billed as a Halloween special and then subsequently banned from being re-aired on TV for a few years. You know a show is good when it's too graphic for Fox to show again.

2012-10-28 03:53:49 PM
MLP's "Nightmare Night" episode was a fun one in my opinion.

It's REALLY close for me. The one they mention (The Simpsons, "Treehouse of Horror V") wins barely because it's just so solid from beginning to end. "The Shinning", "Time and Punishment" ("Stupid bug, you go squish now!") and "Nightmare Cafeteria" ("Oh great, now I gotta work in the dark?") are all near perfect television.

The one with "Citizen Kang" loses mainly because "The Thing and I" (the one about Bart's "evil" twin) is kinda weak.

That is the most pathetic excuse for a Halloween episode list I have ever seen. Had a couple mandatory entries but the rest of the crap, are they serious?

2012-10-28 06:50:26 PM
This reads like a list that the author said "well it's halloween, guess I need an article about it. Hmmm I like TV. I know, I'll ask people in the office to name some shows you have seen that has Halloween episodes"

King Of The Hill: Hilloween. The Old-fashioned Hallowe'en of Hank's childhood vs the overbearing self-righteous misuse of the Church by Junie Harper. I'm on Hank's side of the argument, and when Peggy reads the riot act to Luanne, that should be written in stone.

The christmas episodes of Two Guys and a Girl were one-offs that were fun and clever, they actually killed off most or all of the cast in at least one of them.

ding ding ding!

after spending a large portion of my weekend watching the marathon of rosanne halloween episodes, i couldn't even bother reading beyond your posts (#s 2 & 3 of this thread)!

the pranks, the costumes, the true smiles you could see on the faces of the cast members who all obviously had real fun making those episodes...those are true classics!

the cosby show one was great...and as for the simpsons they should just say every treehouse of horror...and of course the great pumpkin is great

but list = fail for exclusion of rosanne!

garfield and friends was one of the best shows every (cartoon or otherwise) and the specials were always good too. don't know what the heck happened post-series with the crappy 3d animated shows...and i just can't bring myself to watch the live-action movies

2012-10-29 09:31:47 AM
i'd also forgotten about the home improvement halloweens. they were about as good as rosanne. you could tell folks on those 2 shows and on cosby were really into it.

and the king of the hill "hilloween" got me all ticked off at religious lady, and had me praising hank for standing up for tradition!

Stark Raving Mad halloween episode is my favorite of all time. NPH, Tony Shalhoub, Eddie McClintock. One of the best short lived sitcoms ever.
