Subway can't be that strict about employee rules. Last time I went in one (a few years ago near SMU) the guy behind the counter didn't speak any english. Not poor english, but like he had come with the bell peppers straight from the field.

Subway "corporate" just sells franchises and supplies. Employee policy is/should be down to the individual store level.

Now of course Subway will fire the employee, the robber will sue the employee for burns suffered and win, and the company will adopt a new mandate of hiring only non english speaking employees with no balls that are farmed out through a subcontractor so they won't have to pay any benefits, then start using rat and dog meat disguised as turkey and beef.

/Too much?

Subway doesn't care about any of that. They only want to distance themselves from a potential lawsuit. Hiring shiatty employees is one thing. Continuing to employ someone who caused extreme pain and suffering to a desperate, misunderstood young person who has had a difficult childhood is another.

Yeah... the Subway employee will be looking for a jobby job this week.

Jesus, give him the farking money! When did the $200 or so in your cash register become more valuable than your life? It's not even your $200. You still get paid either way and the franchise owner can either file an insurance claim (not worth it for $200) or eat the loss.

I went to Jimmy Johns once, years ago and I don't recall the details but it was bad enough that I made a rule to never return.

I like Subway, it actually has fresh vegetables to put on a sandwich - tomatoes, cucumbers, spinach, onion, avocado, etc.

Plus they open early so I can pick up lunch at 8AM on my way to work.

You got that part wrong. No way that scumbag's lawyer would waste time going after someone making $8/hr with no benefits. They'll go after Subway.

You know what I like most about Subway? It's consistent. It's not the greatest sandwich in the world, but it's good, solid food that fills me up and doesn't make me regret the experience. I used to feel that way about Quiznos, but their quality nosedived a few years back and now I go maybe once a year to see if there is any improvement. Just went two weeks ago, and felt queasy after lunch.

The only other place that I like is Jersey Mikes, but the closest one to me is about 15 miles away, so that's at best an occasional stop.

Remember, Subway is one of the few fast food joints that trusts the employees with knives. The soup was the nice alternative.

Big sharp knives to slice the bread, yes.

I usually carry a 24 ounce coffee when walking. It's a pleasant beverage AND a defensive weapon. Well, in theory, anyway. But if someone can take 180 degree liquid to the eyes and keep coming at you, not much is going to stop them anyway.

I don't get the firings of people who defend themselves against a robber. Seems like you could file a wrongful termination complaint and argue that the policy saying "Do what the robber says" is invalidated by your personal well-being and right to defend yourself every time.

"Well I was going to fight back, but store policy..." How farking stupid is that? I just don't understand how it hasn't been legally disassembled by now.

2012-10-28 12:11:30 PM
Addendum: "'Do what the robber says' is designed to protect you. It's not your money." I'm guessing with little research you could find plenty of cases where the clerk did what the robber asked and got killed anyway.

in other news, subway serves soup. yes you've never seen it on the menu before. that's cause you're too concerned with buying something "fit" cause your a runner like Apollo Ono. or Jared C. Clark.
