Reading their actual endorsement, it makes no sense. We support Romney because of...magic?

DamnYankees: Reading their actual endorsement, it makes no sense. We support Romney because of...magic?

I believe it's specifically called the "confidence fairy" and you can see where they leave the rails right here:

Consumers must feel more confident about their own economic futures to begin spending on the products and services that power the economy. A renewed sense of confidence will spark renewed investment by American companies. Industry will return to full production and hiring will begin again.

That should come with Mitt Romney in the White House.

Of course he'd pursue some version of economic austerity and send us right back into recession so this is 100% backwards.

AIUI, it's because he's a businessman, and because Obama is not a leader (ie he didn't cave in to the GOP on healthcare enough and made enemies).

What subby might also note is that the Register never endorsed a Democrat until LBJ.

i think it's funny that they think they know what Romney's policies would be. Romney would probably like to know.

Both President Barack Obama and Governor Romney are superbly qualified. Both are graduates of the Harvard University Law School who have distinguished themselves in government, in public service and in private life. Both are devoted husbands and fathers.

A fresh perspective: Both sides are good so vote Republican

No. Not magic, lies.
"He was an accomplished governor in a liberal state. He founded and ran a successful business that turned around failing companies."

Neither statement is true. 800 vetoes, 700 overturned? Successful business that was bailed out? Turned around companies by sucking them dry and leaving the corpse for someone else to clean up?

This is true, however: "Which candidate could forge the compromises in Congress to achieve these goals? When the question is framed in those terms, Mitt Romney emerges the stronger candidate." well, sort of true. He's not stronger, even in those terms. He's weaker. The conversation shouldn't be framed as "who can work with those recalcitrant bastards in Congress?" but rather "Throw the farkers out and find reasonable people to replace them." I think Obama was TOO reasonable in his attempts to work with them; he should have told them to piss up a rope or played bully every chance he got. Those farkers extended this mess we're in. They should be experiencing the fear of re-election chances fading to nonexistence now.

Hopefully not too many people there vote exclusively on the opinions of large strips of paper soaked in ink.

Doesn't surprise me at all, the people in Iowa that I know have been getting more and more derpy recently. There are still some sane people but most of them are moving away slowly leaving only the crazy behind.

The Register endorsement: Mitt Romney offers a fresh economic vision

What that vision is, we don't know! But he promises it's fresh! (and not just the same as the Republican economic vision leading up to 2008 even though he hasn't explained any difference).

Oh yeah, there's no way Nixon would survive today's GOP. His ass would have been primaried out as a RINO. (If he just wouldn't be a Democrat.)

It's ironic because typically The Register is bemoaned as a liberal rag. Democrats in the state are probably surprised, especially considering Obama got the spot last election. Republicans are probably bewildered by the endorsement and not sure how to proceed since they expect to be opposed by the newspaper.

\oh that liberal media

You're right, they shouldn't. I said this in the thread about the Washington...whatever endorsing Obama. Newspapers and news media outlets should report the news, period. They shouldn't take sides.

And who the fark bases their vote on who Perry White supports?

Democrats make lousy bullies. Maybe they could throw their weight around when their core constituency was working-class males, but since they started standing up for women, minorities and the disabled, their hearts aren't in it anymore.

Note, they provide no actual details of how this is suppose to work, just as Gov. Romney has provided no actual math that makes sense.

I said the same in that thread too. They pretty much lose all journalistic credibility when the paper as a whole announces they have taken a side.

He provided a lot more math than candidate Hopey Changey did.

Also a lot more than 0bama has this time.

How will raising taxes on the rich (which seems to be the only thing he talks about and whines about Romney not wanting to do) create jobs and improve the economy?
Still waiting for the answer and the math on that one.
Going to create more shovel ready jobs? (oh wait, that failed),
Going to have another summer of recovery? (oh wait, that failed),
Going to get us 500,000 new jobs a month the way Biden said? (oh wait, that failed),
Going to get us those green jobs? (well, that wasn't a total failure - it only had a 84% failure).

Not to mention Iowans have already been voting in a steady stream. With far more Democratic ballots requested than either Independent or Republican. It is funny to see some endorsements though, like the Salt Lake City paper endorsing President Obama for a second term.

Frederick: You those things as being mutually exclusive?

The Des Moines Register has endorsed both Mitt Romney and Christie Vilsack for office this time. Its safe to say they probably have a case of schizophrenia. Not to mention they seem to think Romney's promised invasion of Iran is somehow not going have any economic effects here at home.

This is my second election year on Fark. Yes...it subsides. When all the politically charged people are done trying to influence the population, Fark returns to it's normal state of boobs and beer.
