(AL.com)   You know that picture of an Alabama sorority girl holding a poorly-spelled, anti-Obama message scrawled on the back of a pizza box? Turns out she's really from Boston, her school doesn't have a Greek system, and she's pro-Obama   (blog.al.com) divider line 227

If this is true, it's not surprising that it took off. It was highly plausible.

Probably because nobody ever smiles like that naturally. It's so unnatural it's almost Uncanny Valley.

I'll bet you still get it a bit wrong from time to time, I know I have. The way I understand it is somebody makes some sort of joke. Then somebody bastardizes that joke in such a way that leads to more bastardization. Then you start to get into the whole life cycle of a meme.

That sounds about right. I had no idea meme was based on an ancient Greek word. All this time I thought it was images or phrases that showed up all over the place on the internet.

I saw that picture weeks ago. When I saw it, it said it was a parody. Apparently, the parody part was stripped out, and then circulated as real. Now it appears that she's going to get crap for trying to intentionally mislead people.

You mean people don't check the validity of things that confirm their world views? That those with the opposing political viewpoint are glad to see proof that their opposing sides is filled with ignorant racists?

I AM SHOCKED AND APPALLED.

Yep. It was clearly labeled as satirical on pundit kitchens page, but only in the description, not in the title or tags.

Pretty much exactly what everyone who commented on it said this would happen.

In summary, an authentic picture made its way to the internet.
People made up stuff about it.
Other people got upset because they believed the made up stuff.

She keeps using those words. I don't think they mean what she thinks they mean.
