That condition is normally fatal.

It's so big that she even has trouble climbing trees - she has to take very slow, deliberate movements so she doesn't poke herself in the eye with it.

So... it's an eye tooth.

Yep, that tooth will keep growing until it pierces her brain.

Shoulda worn braces as a child.

I have a squirrel with a broken foot that used to come around last year. Haven't seen her this year. Don't know if she healed or if she got nabbed by the local hawk.

But, I do have some photos of the other squirrels that like to raid my pecan trees and bird feeders.

I fell bad for her. Wish there was something that could be done, like having the tooth pulled. Probably be hard to catch her for the procedure.

We had a rabbit on the farm whose teeth kept growing like that. I had to clip them with sidecutters every couple weeks and give them a rinse with hydrogen peroxide. Rodent and rabbit teeth just keep growing and once they go out of alignment, they don't get worn down by anything.

Saw a picture of a ram skull where the horn grew into the head and killed it. Imagine the headaches.

Okay I KNOW you guys know this by now, but... you realise that every time you greenlight a Daily Mail link you are funding a deeply racist ultra right wing publication, don't you? That they're making a mint off the clicks they get from here? That they have staff writing and submitting links pretty much tailored to this site?

I mean... you do know that, don't you? You're okay with that... right?

I clicked the link with a smile, looking forward to cute squirrel pics, but got sad as soon as I saw the first one. Man, what a horrible way to die - having your brain slowly punctured at the speed that the tooth grows.

Used to have a pet squirrel. Smart little thing.

squirrel malocclusion

I read a book by a woman who trapped a squirrel with this problem and took it to the vet to have the tooth filed down.

If I had to go through life worrying about who was ultimately getting my money, I'd never get anything done. Eventually everything you buy, watch, see or do gets funneled back to someone or something you wouldn't like. You do know that, right?

All you can do is try to keep it as close to the organizations you want and hope for the best.

I hope somebody can catch itt and perform emergency dental work. That tooth is going to grow right into her eye if it keeps going. The life expectancy of squirrels is probably about the same as a rat, but I've repaired umbrellas that have the same life expectancy and I don't see why we can't repair a broken squirrel if it doesn't cost a fortune.

I usually look in the threads for details than clicking on the link. If you want to prevent more clicks to the article, try to duplicate the content of the article in the thread.

True. The one I saw in Philly, had the tooth poking just below the eye. Skin looked pretty raw there

My neighbor wanted to do that when she saw a squirrel with lumps on it that were botflies, and the wildlife center said yes, we could capture it and remove them, but the squirrel could die from shock because of the catching and handling, and the flies did no permanent damage.

I always thought it was weird squirrels can live for decades, when rats die in about 2 years from old age.

And when you buy Progressive Insurance you're funding an owner that supports socialism, or if you buy a goddamn chicken sandwich you hate gay people.

Sometimes it's ok to read an article and be entertained for 3 and a half minutes without guilting ourselves into an apoplectic stupor because we don't masturbate to thoughts of us pretending to be a victim. Go hyper-ventilate somewhere else, you farking freak.

Possums only live for about 1.5-2 yrs in the wild, on average. Pretty much just long enough to reach sexual maturity and reproduce once. This is pretty unusual for a mammal of this size.

It's NOT entirely because they live a hard life, either. In captivity, best of care, they only live to about 4 yrs old. That's old age, unusually rapid senescence.

If someone would catch it, the tooth could be trimmed with some basic nail clippers or wire cutters. No big deal.

I was thinking of something like a dremel tool to grind it off to length.
Don't rodents usually/constantly gnaw on stuff to keep this kind of thing from happening?

Lord knows there are enough squirrels on the dole already, what's one more?

Have one of these that visits my patio regularly. This tooth on this one has irritated the cheek so badly that it basically has a cleft upper lip. She seems to do fine tho. The worst of it seems to break off from time to time. She's a black squirrel who still has the energy to chase the grey squirrels away from the sunflower seeds.

They don't aim their links at the politics tab. It's easier to make stuff up for the main page.
