At work, but this one is begging for a pic of trees photoshopped as smokestacks or something.

The ford one was pretty funny... and the Dukakis item, well... imagine what Farkers would have done with that pic.

Bush used that image in an ad describing you as soft on defense. The irony is that you supported a buildup in conventional weapons like tanks.

I was at the tank factory to make that point, obviously. Now, should I have been in the tank? Probably not, in retrospect. But these days when people ask me, "Did you get here in a tank?" I always respond by saying, "No, and I've never thrown up all over the Japanese prime minister."

It was the Willie Horton ad that really did him in.

Attacking Democrats for ther military service is SOP for Republicans.

/ At least Bush Sr. actually served.

Which is hilarious because this election neither candidate has served. I think the last time that happened was like in 1910.

Same reason that Kerry -- who actually served in the military -- was successfully portrayed as weak against Bush. Republicans care only about appearances. Clint Eastwood, John Wayne, Ronald Reagan -- all of these men are representative of the conservative concern with style over substance. So, too, Romney.

The driver doesn't sit there. Bush 43 was a fighter pilot, it didn't make him look any less stupid in a flight suit off San Diego

This cannot be said enough. The American right is effectively an authoritarian religious movement; even "libertarians" are driven by dogmatic and fundamentalist belief in discredited economics. Their search for "leadership" is a personality cult on a quest to find the next Stalin they can venerate.

The Andrew Jackson cheese thing was not a meme, and not remotely the best Jackson anecdote (look up how he dealt with the first attempted assasination of a President).

Hard to believe you could write this article without Nixon's Checkers speech, which saved his career. Watching film of it, I'm still on the fence as to whether that was really Pat sitting on the couch, looking on adoringly, or a wax figure. Or the chant opponents used to mock Grover Cleveland over an illegitimate child, "Ma, ma, where's my pa?"

2000. farktard GWB never served. He just nancied around Texas pretending to be in the National Guard and occasionally flew planes. He would have been drummed out unceremoniously if not for his famous and well-placed dad.

I'd actually never heard the story about LBJ and his treatment of his beagles. Attacking Presidents for their acts towards their dogs isn't unheard of. There is, of course, the famous Checkers speech Nixon gave back when he was VP. My personal favorite has to be FDR's response to some of his (and his dog's) critics. Backstory: Roosevelt visited an Aleutian Island and supposedly left his Scottie, Fala, behind. Realizing this, the story continues that he sent a Navy destroyer to go pick up Fala. A destroyer, to go pick up a Scottish Terrier, in a time of war.

These Republican leaders have not been content with attacks on me, or my wife, or on my sons. No, not content with that, they now include my little dog, Fala. [laughter] Well, of course, I don't resent attacks, and my family don't resent attacks - but Fala does resent them. [laughter] You know, Fala is Scotch, and being a Scottie, as soon as he learned that the Republican fiction writers in Congress and out had concocted a story that I'd left him behind on an Aleutian island and had sent a destroyer back to find him - at a cost to the taxpayers of two or three, or eight or 20 million dollars - his Scotch soul was furious. [laughter] He has not been the same dog since. [laughter] I am accustomed to hearing malicious falsehoods about myself - such as that old, worm-eaten chestnut that I have represented myself as indispensable. But I think I have a right to resent, to object, to libelous statements about my dog! [laughter]

This is probably the last time it will even be an issue: Obama could not have served in Vietnam (although Romney patriotically opted out). But from here on out, military service will only be a plus for any politician, it won't be a negative for anyone who didn't serve. That is, it will look good for any Desert Storm or Iraq/Afghanistan vets, but they won't be able to charge their opponents with "dodging" service like the Vietnam era politicians could, since there will have been no draft to "dodge" or war to protest any more. The swiftboating of Kerry is probably the last gasp for that kind of thing in politics.

I bet he invented Freedom Fries while ha was there.
