Allow me to express how happy I am that Brad Guzan is in net for Villa. I haven't paid near close enough attention to know if he's doing well but he's a talented player who could be the USA net-minder very soon. I'm glad he's getting his shot. Good luck, Brad.

I think Norwich forgot there are strikers on the pitch playing for Aston Villa. What on earth was that.

I'm glad that you're okay, but I'm sorry to hear that you had to leave your home. Hopefully the fire didn't destroy it.

I was sound asleep when the Strathclyde Fire Brigade kicked my door down. Everyone fine. I'm on the third floor so no fire damage. Water damage on the other hand... My iPad got trashed, so I type on a replacement. Other than that it looks like my personal possessions got away pretty lightly.

Morning Chaps! Glad to hear you're unharmed Midpoint, can imagine that's rather awkward to wake up to. Had trouble with my predictions this week, lots of matches that could go either way.

Thanks very much.

I remain the luckiest person I know. I was standing in the car park opposite for two hours on a coldish night in my Crombie, others were there in curlers, high heels and a dressing gown.

I've gone 1-1 for this game.

Writing FFPL report slowly 'cos on iPad.

Don't know if he's even here, but ...

Cajnik: But don't you think this is a direct correlation of getting too many spots?

In comparison to Belgium, Norway and the Czech Republic, sure. In comparison to Spain, Italy and Germany, no. If England and Spain have four spots each and four English teams and one Spanish team have reached the final in recent years, surely it's Spain that has too many spots, not England?

Merseyside is spelled with an "s", subby.

Good morning, everyone! Won't be with you for today's games (stuck at work), but I will be around for the derby tomorrow. I'm sure you'll miss me.

Sucks to hear about your flat, midpoint. Glad to hear your okay.

Was hoping for Kaca instead of Richardson, otherwise perfect lineup. Hopefully they'll bring him on at the hour mark.

I was worried about the amount of goals United have conceded this season, so I researched the number of goals the champions score and concede.

11/12 City 93-29
10/11 United 78-37 (Chelsea, City 33)
09/10 Chelsea 103-32 (United 28)
08/09 United 68-24 (Liverpool 77, Chelsea, Arsenal 68) (Chelsea 24)
07/08 United 80-22
06/07 United 83-27 (Chelsea 24, Liverpool 27)
05/06 Chelsea 72-22 (United 72)
04/05 Chelsea 72-15 (Arsenal 87)
03/04 Arsenal 73-26
02/03 United 74-34 (Arsenal 85)
01/02 Arsenal 79-36 (United 87) (Liverpool 30)
00/01 United 79-31
99/00 United 97-45 (Liverpool 30, Chelsea 34, Aston Villa 35, Arsenal, Leeds 43)
98/99 United 80-37 (Arsenal 17, Chelsea 30, Leeds 34)
97/98 Arsenal 68-33 (United 73, Chelsea 71, Liverpool 68) (United 26)
96/97 United 76-44 (Arsenal 32, Aston Villa 34, Liverpool 37, Newcastle 40)
95-96 United 73-35 (Arsenal 32, Liverpool 34, Aston Villa 35).

This was the start of the 20-team league.

In conclusion, none of that proves anything. It's all meaningless. I was surprised (and heartened) by the number of teams who won without conceding the fewest goals. United in 97/98 scored more and conceded fewer than champions Arsenal, so it isn't even true that you win the league if you have one record or the other. I also noticed the variation in the highs and lows: United won the league even after conceding 44 and 45 goals, but Chelsea only conceded 15. United and Arsenal both won after scoring 68, but Ancelotti's Chelsea scored 103, almost a goal a game more.

I've just realised that I'm even more boring than I thought I was.

tl;dr version: teams score and concede.

Epic bantz alert:

Sligo Rovers (former club of Seamus Coleman ... oh, and Dixie Dean) recently won the Irish league. They were presented with the trophy last night and one of their players dressed up for the occasion:

FFPL Report - game week 8

I remain in first place, despite scoring a very moderate 75 points. My lead over second place remains 100 points, but I'm now ahead of Cognitive Displasia who registered a weeks best of 170 to overtake StRalphtheLiar who drops to third. bJMichel stays in fourth.

The max banker bonus group was winnowed by the shock Norwich win against Arsenal, and is reduced to StRalph, bJMichel, The_Envoy, Chattanooga_FC and TottenhamLukewarmSpur. Two thirds of players now on 0 BB and the max on Page 2 is 5 pts. No one predicted the Norwich win as far as I can tell.

At the bottom mitchcumstein gets off to a poor start as a newbie, unlike BillyChrystalMethLab who maintains his 80pts/week start to move into the top 40. The median player is now kcostell in 24th.

Three way tie for most rapid climb - dj_bigbird, Hawaiie and Chattanooga_FC all rising nine. On the slide we have desertgeek falling nine, but nathanjr plops down an impressive 11 spots.

Looks like several players have opted out, and we'll deal with that in a couple of weeks if it continues. Not amongst them is Tom_Servo_Bit_Me, who scored 0 pts despite a full raft of predictions and is becoming something of a cult hero.

I'm the top of page two, hoping to move to page one this weekend! I started off with a perfect score so hopefully I keep my streak going.

Glad to hear you are alright midpoint! Should my door ever be knocked down, it would be quite embarrassing for everyone considering I usually sleep with little to nothing on unless it is super cold.

I am going to miss the second half of the 10AM (or 9AM my time) games, but may watch some of the late game. The real game today is DC United/Chicago at 4PM ET/ 3PM Central. If DC gets at least one point, they secure 2nd place and will most likely play Chicago in a home-and-home series in the playoffs. Lots of this depends on how NY does against Philly which will finish before the DCU match.

MLS Saturday and the last games of the regular season! Wooooo!

Wow, great goal from Reading. Seems to be pretty even against them and Fulham, but Reading finish well first.

Nice strike by Leigertwood. Nothing Schwartzer could do there. 1-0 Reading.

Arsenal definitely looking more incisive on the attacking end with Wilshere finally back, but the midfield isn't holding well defensively.

I was in middle-of-nowhere Montana on an Indian reservation that was without internet due to civil unrest when Berbatov signed. But yes, I was surprised when I found out. On a related note: Julio Cesar for QPR? That's quite a fall from grace.

I was just going to look that up. This also means next Saturday's games are also an hour later.

Hoping Fulham can finish in the second half, had a lot of good chances in the first, just couldn't find net. Berba has been playing in the 10 role so far, and while he's been amazing as always, he's creating the chances instead of finishing them, and the others aren't getting it done.

First and foremost, glad you're OK after that little incident there. I missed last week's thread because of a little weekend getaway, but did manage to get my picks in. I was all psyched after making that jump up to page one, and then last week happened. Everything in moderation, I suppose. I'll take cult hero status any day.

Ruiz on for Rodallega. Assuming this should allow Berba to move forward. Hopefully we can even it up now.
