From just a couple visits to Maine, my impression is that it's peaceful because it's cold, white, underpopulated and full of potheads, including a large "aging hippie" demographic.

Your comments amuse me. Personally, I could give a damn who commits more crime. Lock up who does. I was compelled to comment because of the typical "wonder why Detroit has more crime, ohmmeter" and "what really you insinuating here" type comments that fill up these threads. In regards to my area, there is maybe 15% black population, and it appears through all local media, and carryout crime mags, that a percentage of that particular 15% is committing 90% of the crimes. Take it as you will.

And of those people who make the news, how many do you think commit a crime every single day like you do? Your hypocrisy and self-justification amuses me.

Maine caters to gay tourists. While it is possible for gays to be violent criminals the rate at which it occurs is probably down there with soccer moms.

Maybe the reason that states with similar demographics, such a Montana, are more violent is that they are not gay friendly states.
