One miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiilion dollars!

2012-10-27 09:13:49 AM
If the same contractors who built satellites built a doghouse, there would be four walls, no roof and no door. The roof would be added in Block 2, and the door would be added on later in a non-contract addition costing nine times the original cost of the doghouse.

It's important to work on the laugh.

2012-10-27 10:51:53 AM
But money spent on satellites means less money for corporate welfare and tax breaks for the rich! Subby is a socialist!

This would never have happened if Santorum could privatize weather forecasting and defunding NOAA like he wanted.

Old white people above the age of 50 hate to be inconvienced in anyway.

They want to be at the front of the line or not in line at all.

So this storm is bad news for Obama.

2012-10-27 10:56:45 AM
This is where GOP politicians come in saying "yeah, I'm glad we slashed that funding for NASA. By the way, why do we even need to continue funding the NOAA and volcano research? What a waste of money."

2012-10-27 10:57:27 AM
This really is unacceptable. When you consider all the named storms that hit the United States each year and the damage they cause to property and commerce.

Why in god's name is predicting these storms not a top priority for our government?

Why have the government do it when they can contract it out at twice the price?

The only conclusion I could come up with when he was talking about that is that Santorum is an idiot.
All of those private forecasting companies (TWC, your local news channel, etc) use the government satellite pictures and radar to come up with their predictions (which aren't usually any better or worse than what NOAA comes up with...because they all use the same data!)

Let's not forget that this is predicted to occur in several years, Congress-Critters have two-year terms.

The Stealth Hippopotamus: COBRA!!!

I was gonna say, surely the Weather Dominator trumps Dr. Evil.

Then again, every time someone thinks of lasering the moon I think equally of Chairface Chippendale AND drawing Cobra Commander's face on the moon.

Also, I think Justin Bieber is some sort of Cold Slither plot.

For the record: I'm a conservative in favor of fully funding all scientific endeavors. I'm royally pissed that NASA has been cut.

Yes, I want stem cell research. Yes I want Darwin taught in school. I believe in God yet don't force my ideas about him on my kids. I want them inquisitive and intellectually honest so that maybe, just maybe, they can get closer to the truth than I have.

Let's continue to look, to investigate, is all I'm saying.

I just recently had an exchange with a Teabagger about this. Willful ignorance can't process the fact that these images are coming from the government.
"But I saw it on Fox 5's news, they get their own images."
"They get the images from the government."
"No, they have private sources."
"Do they have their own satellites?"
"Um..." wanders off

They'll just render all the weather scientists to Italy for whining, then discover that satellite TV is also bound by the same physics and delivery systems. Oh, and GPS.

This dead guy will save the day with his new, super glorious rockets.

I've been wondering when this was going to happen ever since I found out how long ago we put those up there, and that we had been steadily not spending money on anything to replace them. I'm also a weather junkie so this pisses me off even more.

Sigh.

Once we turn it over to the corporations we'll probably have a "text your vote" for storm names. They'll try to squeeze every dollar they can out of us.
